  1. Warning thread hijack. Fish, you say you are from Detroit? Any chance you are the "Fish" that is a UPS driver and friends with Kurt Schwartz, Kevin Yonker, Bill O'Connel, Keith whats-his-name and the Miller brothers??? That would be too funny if you are. I know metro Detroit is a big area, but how many people have the nickname of fish? Sorry for the Hijack...go back to name that tune. -Rich (I know a Fish in Detroit) Place
  2. Hey guys thanks for all the leads. Just what I was looking for. Thanks again, Rich
  3. More then fair price. If I was in the area I would be knocking on his door with 18 100 dollar bills in hand.
  4. When I bought my Forte IIs new they too were wrapped in plastic then taped shut before being placed between the Styrofoam. Probably to prevent any water damage during shipping. I think those are up around JackonBart's neck of the woods. Go get em man!
  5. Stromin, are you just messing with me? Who is?
  6. Wow, I can't beleive I did not know those were the words. I guess I always vegged out and did not even try to figure out what was being sung.
  7. Dean/M Hurd what exactly are we saying here? These are late 80 or early 90s amps so they are quickly reaching the 15 year mark. Is it the same with amps as with XOs that replacing old cap X with new cap X brings them back to the factory specs.? Is it also true that replacing old cap X with new cap Y (say a better quality of cap) might make an improvement or am I off the mark here? I freely admit I know next to nothing about inner workings of anything electronic. I was just making the leap in reasoning that if replacing an old .25 cent cap with a new, more audio-oriented $2 cap makes an improvement in one piece of gear, it would stand to reason the it would make a difference in a different piece of gear. Now that difference might be something you like or something you don't like, but it could/should make a difference, right? So if I am going to ship my amps off to Sunfire to get them as good as new...why not find a guy like Craig that has that all figured out and have him improve the sound of my amp? Is there such a guy like that in the solid state world? If so who is he? Maybe I am thinking about this too much. I actually like the sound of the amps, I just want to know they are performing at the best they can since 3 out of 4 of them I don't know the history of. Thanks for taking the time to make an electronic novice like me understand!
  8. Sunfire is a good idea. I guess my line of thinking was that if better caps make for better crossovers, then perhaps I want my amps "improved" at the same time I get them refreshed. Perhaps my thinking if flawed. When Craig worked over my Scott 222, it is my understanding that it is not just good as new, but better then new.
  9. Maybe I am crazy, but I thought I read a post a few weeks ago that said something to the effect of: "Send you Solid State amp to this guy. He is the NOSValves of SS gear" I can't find the post using the high quality search feature and I can't remember the guys name or copmany. I dropped Craig as NOSValves a line and he was not aware of any SState mod people out there. My thinking was this. If people freshen up and improve older tube gear with updated caps and the like surely it must be possible with solid state gear. Is this true? If it is true does anybody remember that post or have suggestions on where to send my gear. I have seen lots of mods for DVD and CD players where different caps, RCA connectors, etc. are common and claim better sound. I currently have 4 Carver TFM-25 amps that I use in my HT set up and one has a slight hiss. One has been mine since day one new. The other three I have picked up used, so at the least would like to have somebody run through them and make sure they are up to snuff.
  10. I don't know what to say other then "You win". I sure would like to hear it.
  11. I have not heard one so can't comment on the sound. However, it sure does look cool. Merry Christmas to yourself. Congrats!
  12. Thanks for the heads up. A few times I have tried to brows that site and look for LPs but unless you are willing to key in artists, labels, etc. it just is too much of a PITA. Got any advice on how to come up with all the 180g LPs like you can on Acoustic Sounds? I find Acoustic Sounds the easiest to use, with Elusive Disc a close 2nd. Either I am missing the big picture or this company needs to find a better user interface. Is it me???[:^)][*-)]
  13. If you have the room and the ability the best choice would be another KG4. Not always possible due to space and wives. Next in line would be one of the centers designed for the KG line....the models escape me now...perhaps KVsomething. Others will chime in here and help you. Welcome to the forum. Stick around for lots of good info. Find a 2nd job you are going to need the extra cash for you money pit, er home theater. Good Luck!
  14. Just a FYI you might want to consider 7.1. I originally thought I would go with 6.1 because I could not believe there would be that much of a difference. When I was running 6.1 it was very "obvious" that there was a speaker behind me. It sort of jumped out at me. Since switching to 7.1 all 4 surrounds sound much more "surrounding". Others will tell you the exact reason but is has something to do with sound directly behind you almost sounding like it is in front of you. Some sound/ear/head thing. How is that for a scientific explanation? At any rate I found out the reasoning behind it after I have made the switch and liked it better so I am quite sure I was no imagining it.
  15. Great song I was at an x-mas party for the evening or I would have had it earlier. One Tree Hill - U2 Let's stick with the same LP I have kissed honey lips Felt the healing in her fingertips It burned like fire This burning desire I have spoke with the tongue of angels I have held the hand of a devil It was warm in the night I was cold as a stone
  16. Ha ha...my work is done. I knew this would stir things up.[] Seriously, buy any of them you can't go wrong. Don't get hung up on the details.
  17. Space not sound brother! I feel the CW take up the most space of the bunch. I agree for this buyer LS is out of the question. If I was going purely by sound the Cornwalls would not make the list....ducking![6][]
  18. Good luck on your decisions, personally I think you are making a mistake to say the Belle is out if you are seriously considering corns. The corns really are a big, no huge, speaker. Look at the dimensions on paper all you want but the khorns, as others have said, really are the "smallest" of all. They truly disappear once in place. Any other will need to be moved forward of the wall and most likely toed in. When I swapped out my Chorus for a Belle in the center of my HT I was surprised how much more space I appeared to gain. Belle is shorter, wider and about the same depth. However the lower height seemed to make it seem smaller. Every one of the speakers you are considering sound wonderful. You can't go wrong with any of them. Shipping is a huge gamble and they bigger the speaker the more that gamble. I suggest you buy the first pair of F/FII/C/CII/Corn/LS/Belle/KH you find locally and go from there. They really are all phenomenal speakers. Some have things that one person will like better then the next but you can't go wrong with any. Since size seems to be an issue for you if I had a gun to my head and based on what I have seen in this thread and what I have owned, liked and heard I would give you an ordered shopping list of: Khorn Forte II Forte Belle Chorus Chorus II Cornwall You are just at the start of a fun ride, enjoy!
  19. I can't believe nobody has scooped these up yet. If he was closer they would be in my room right now and I would be trying to figure out how to veneer my other 5 speakers to match. More the fair price based on the condition and you know they have been well taken care of.
  20. Man, those just scream Rock 'n Roll when you look at them with the grills off. NICE!
  21. Renegade -Styx In the howling wind comes a stinging rain See it driving nails Into the souls on the tree of pain
  22. Jeff, ok I believe you. JB, looks like you are on a roll All, this is way more fun then work!
  23. Jeff and I are biased. I say JB posts a tie breaker for only Jeff and I [6] see my edit 2 above.
