  1. They really milked that story line to death. How many 'Back to the Future' movies were there? The first one was pretty good.
  2. Be interested in people's opinion, epecially if there are ones I have not yet seen. Here is my take on the top 10 in no particular order. Blazing Saddles Caddie Shack Animal House Sleeper Holy Grail Slap Shot King Pin Raising Arizona Midnight Run Spinal Tap
  3. The Wall is great, I have the remastered DVD version, can't compare it cause its the only one I have seen/hear except a highschool midnight showing in a movie theater. I have the CD, the DVD sounds better. Actually I am bummed because they have not released live concert of Pulse on DVD. I have that on LD (yes that is Laser Disc) and its awesome( back in 1994) or it would be on DVD, especially if they could work it in DTS. Actually the LD sounds good throught the panaosonic CLD 703 going digital to the Denon, but the picture is missing much via S-video.
  4. Wheelman I agree 100% they are great movies, as well as Ed Wood. When Landau goes off on Carloff as Lugosi , I howl w/ laughing each time. As in all things its a matter of opinions but not every "one" gets it and so for those that do its guilty?. My in laws, who are actually quite cool for whom cocktail hour start exactly at 5 earlier on the weekends, did not like Ed Wood, I just don't understand it why. I guess I should have said Star Ship Troopers, I laughed at that one too, but I could not watch it again.
  5. How about: The Big Lebowski Tommy Boy & Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
  6. "Wonder why Denon has not done this. IIRC, THX certification adds VERY LITTLE to the cost - as in, you will never pay a real premium." Denon has a number of THX certified receivers, perhaps I am missing the sarcasm. I have one, though that is not why I brought it. Would say buy what you like. I have heard that THX is not musical as well, but its been pretty limited to discussions about THX certified speakers, many arguements about the surround speaker type (dipole vs direct) with movies vs music. Not so much about amps or receivers. Griff is right, there it is a huge markerting component, they let crap slip through to collect the fees directly off of buyers who don't know any better and then introduce Ultra standard to keep the better manufactorers hooked.
  7. Ok we have the Heritage series, Reference series and the THX Ultra, among others. Where does the RF7 fit in? In terms of the Heritage series, I have heard the Klipschorn and the Heresy IIs, I thought the horns sounded great and I doubt the set up when I heard them was optimal, but I dont have room for horns and for the price you need the room or build an addition to the house. I really loved the RF7s and when I auditioned them I listened primarily to music I brought with me. Movies are important to me so I liked the idea that I could get the center and surrounds that matched. A little off topic but I wish Klipsch would offer their stuff direct, cause most retailers are really not very good at servicing their existing or potential clients. Tweeter stinks, I would really like to go direct. (FYI, that was not where I heard the Heritage systems). From a marketing point of view the Reference series is not THX approved, not that I care, my receiver is but that is not why I brought it, I love the sound and I like the flexibility (DACs) it offers. Yet Klipsch offers their Ultra THX system, which I have not heard at all, but clearly the THX matters to them. I love the my speakers, which I brought almost 2 years ago and are just getting to really enjoy them now since my dedicated room was completed in my basement, still working on acoustic tweaks though. I just think its strange were they fit in as their Flagship from a marketing point of view, guess the new Legends? I am thinking of constructing a stereo system with a pair of new Heresys and a nice amp and pre-tuner. I cant yet bring myself to get away from SS or switch to LPs. So it goes. BTW it was the Heresys and the KGs that I heard in college that got me hooked.
  8. I would recomend that you invite over (given the room size) about 20 hot college babes and the crank the music, should make an improvement.
  9. toddvj - I was refering to the crossover being set to low so that the RF25s falling off before the sub picked up and would be missing the mid bass punch.(aka you would have to set it higer) Frzninvt - You're probably right I have never heard a system as good as the one in your 94 Camaro (I would like to). Not sure what it cost you. Obviously was not try to knock car audio, my own car system should not be mentioned in the same sentence. as yours and I really enjoy mine, but would you not admit that the environment that you listen to music in has a large impact on the "quality"* of sound you hear? (*highly subjective). So I guess that is the point. In my opinion "with the equipment being equal (meaning you have spent equal time/money on both) your home system is going to sound better than your car system assuming your home is not the inside of a car.
  10. A car stereo (don't get me wrong were else can you blast tunes and feel the rush of speed and for a lot of people its the only time they are alone) regardless of how nice it is, is always more of a compromise than an equivalent HT/home set up. Just think of the inside of your car, even a Excursion/Surbuban, the sound particularly the bass is going to be compressed. (your extra mid base punch) In general the inside of a car is not a good acoutical environment, the highs are bouncing off of glass, plastic and metal causing all sorts of havac. Perhaps it will take you a while to get used to it,I can't speak from experiance of the RF25, when I was last looking they only has the RF3s, went with the RF7s and I could not be happier. Before giving up on the RF25s, I would look at your sub placement. Try different spots and as Gramas sugests check your crossover setting, perhaps set its to low for your RF25s. When you sit down to watch a movie or listen to music at home (with your equipment), it should blow your car stereo away, just given the environment alone. If your really used to the "car sound" then perhaps try an equalizer or RF5/7s, equalization/ different sub placement wb cheaper, given that your existing equipment should be able to produce what you want.
  11. The RSW is while not techincally ported its not considered sealed either. I have the RSW 15 and I think its very nice, if you have the room size and the $ consider the RSW. I would say listen to both but with subs its difficult to get an idea how they are going to sound at home unless you take them there. I think in most cases people find they don't have enough bass rather than too much (too much is easy to fix, turn it down). Good luck
  12. Thank you for the info, will definatly look for one.
  13. Shade: The stand I have was a Best Buy special, it has room for another glass shelf which I just removed for the center. Its still tight especially since its tilted. TV stands are a good idea and it should allow the center to be positioned more out in front. I have the tv and speakers about 1 1/2 feet off the back wall since the RF7 are ported Joe S: Have you noticed an improvement in sound with the center up top? thks
  14. I would go for the second choice on set up, but would recomend that you listen to both and see what you like. Even with "full range" speakers the second option lets your receiver dedicate the power to the higher frequencies and lets the sub do its thing. If you can also try different crossovers, say 60 or 40, most importantly do what sounds best to you in your room. Cables are easier, sure both are nicly constructed, go for the cheaper ones or look as others recomend look at hopefully less expensive name brands if available.
  15. This seems to be the perfect thread to mention a discovery I made this past week. I own two pugs and while listening to music one of them left a package in the corner of my room. Besides the smell, I noticed an immediate improvement in the sound of my system. The highs were higher, the lows were lower, midrange was more evident & sound stage was improved. There definitely was an increase in energy flow in the higher harmonics. Trust me, it was out of this world listening experience. For a tidy fee I am willing to bring one pug (you can get both for 1 1/2 times the normal price) over to your music room for a limited engagement to make a special listening device deposit on your floor. You won't believe the difference it can make and this is high quality acoustic material. Copy rights are pending.
  16. Hi Chris Thanks, the room is approx 13ft wide 18ft long and 7 1/2ft height, under the soffits is a little over 6ft. Walls are insulated btw the studs and I had the contractor put acoutic (corning)insulation above the ceiling btw the joists. I bought 1 3/4in thick stiff fiber glass insulation board that I cut up into 4 equal sections (4 by 2ft). The plan is to buy some heavy fabric in a pattern the wife approves of and make like form fitting pillow cases for each and hang them on sides of the walls on either side of the LSS and RSS. (Any other ideas would be welcome) I just have not gotten there yet, just still getting used to the room. Not really a DIYer, more of a half *sser, but i am going to give it a shot before I buy something, to much $$ otherwise. Funny don't notice the low position of the center except during DVD audio CDs and really only on the DD, not the DTS mixes. But you really can tell when you switch from DD to just stereo. Will put up the some treatment before I attempt to move the center above. Very very nice system, must sound great. I love the room, exceptional woodwork, cabinets and panelling. Very warm did you DIY? Wish I had the skill. Used HDepot to put in HW floors in the living & dinning room. would love to replace the white generic moldings with nice stained wood and add some panelling.
  17. v3spitfire Congrats on the purchase. Looks like a really nice sub. Just curious, since you have the RF-7s, did you look at the RSW15 and if so what were your impressions of the Deep Impact that steered you that way. I never have had to the chance to hear a Legacy product. The speakers look very serious.
  18. Here is a picture of the back. Again any ideas or personal experiances with moving the center above the tv would be appreciated. Thx
  19. Here is a picture of the front of my HT. Finished the basement over the summer. Question, see a lot of people like me have the center under the DLP/LCD/TV, etc. I would like to get it closer in height with the mains. Looking for ideas. The center is angled up to hit the view in the face, but was thinking of moving it. Thought of stands but that would push them too far out in the room and ahead of the RF7s. Was thinking perhaps a shelf above the samsung and angle it down. Just looking for ideas. Thx.
  20. For a concert you should try Clapton's One More Car One More Rider, DVD, in DTS the sound is great.
  21. Not sure about your tastes, but I do enjoy listening to classical music now and again. I also find picking out classical CDs to be frustrating, since you might find a great conductor, performance, etc, but the recording quality leave something to be desired. I stumbled across some CDs from Nimbus Records and the few I have are very good. Some of the CDs I have included a pull out that tells you how they set up the mikes and performed the recording. You shut your eyes and your there.
  22. I have a Samsung HL P5063W and its about 5 feet from my RSW-15, both along the front end of my room and I have not had any issues. I have on many occasions played music/movies/ especially concerts very loud and never have seen any degradation of the picture or long term consquenses. That said, I have noticed that the walls and the seats seem to vibrate more than the samsung or anything equipement on the stand that it sits on.
  23. I brought a Velodyne FSR12BV (after my Boston Acoustics sub did not cut it) in 1998 and I thought was good with by BA T830. I did get them to sound ugly a couple of times (vodka was involved)and with a big room you need more than one. That model is old by now and I am sure they make better, not that it was top of the line then, but it was well reviewed. I was impressed when I heard it then, though I find sub woofers are impossible to review unless they are in the room your going have them in. In 2001 I purchased Klipsch all round , I now use the RSW-15 in my HT/music room and it is are amazing, I have never been able to ruffle a feather on it and it delivers clean, precise bass down very low at high levels. I love listening to Eric Clapton's "One More Car One More Rider" dvd among others. I have to tweek the level now and then between sources and software but its great to own something I am not worried about hurting and sounds/feels so good and it still add something at low levels which has more to do with the settings of the receiver I am sure. Never the less the walls are well insolated.
