  1. hi all, my question too. would love to have a walkthru on how to bi-amp these to the klipschorns. thanks very muchly...! pete
  2. hi all, thankyou for all your suggestions. i wonder tho why the council not to use both these amps with the set of klipschorns. would i be in danger of damaging the speakers? my hope was to have one amp connected to each speaker, effectively giving both full amp power to each and to have an inherent balance control. not wise or practical? if not why or if it is practical how best to do it? alternately i wonder if there would be any problem with running parallel speaker wires from each amp, the speakers hooked to a different component (provided ofcourse i didn't try to play more than one component at a time). say i want to listen to cd...i power one amp and play the cd. then i want to listen to phono...turn on the other amp and play the lp. i still have wires from the other amps but they aren't powered on or playing anything. is their any conceivable problem with that scenario? if you had two of these amps and wanted to use them both, how would you go about it? thankyou again for your advice! pete
  3. too late, bought two. now i get to play. btw, would you try to connect more than one component to one amp? as far as i can determine (haven't gotten them yet) there are inputs only for one component unless you double up the connections...
  4. hello there, thankyou for your reply. i've never tried to either bridge or bi-amp a system so any advice would be great. i initially thought it would be fun to hook an amp to each speaker but then i got to thinking it would maybe suffice to have each amp run a different component, i.e. one for the disc player and one for the turntable. i simply don't know enough about things to make a very intelligent decision and would appreciate some advice. thanks again for your help! pete
  5. hi all, i read so much discussion about the trend 10.1 that i felt like i needed to try it. i've ordered a pair of them with the vague notion of hooking one up to each klipschorn. however i would enjoy hearing the group's opinion of the best way to use these things. i currently use an nad c320bee ss amplifier, toshiba dvd/sacd/cd player, proton tuner, nad phono preamp and techniques sl-1350 turntable with the grado red cartridge. thanks a lot for your suggestions on this admittedly low cost setup. pete (the poor boy)
  6. watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow! f. zappa
  7. 'in 1814 we took a little trip along with kernal' jackson down the mighty missisip'. we took a little bacon and we took a little beans and we met the bloody british in a town near new orleans. (chorus) we fired our guns but the british kept a'comin' there weren't quite as many as there was a while ago. we fired once more and they began a'runnin' down the mississippi to the gulf of mexico.' 2nd verse... 3rd verse, we fired our guns until the barrels melted down then we grabbed an alligator and fired another round. we filled his mouth with pebbles and powdered his behind and when we lit the powder off the gator lost his mind. (chorus)
  8. ahh, i used to love roger miller! havent heard that in a long while although a couple years back i picked up an album of his greatest hits. has anyone figured out who did the song fire down below? not talking about bob seeger either...
  9. hee hee, i used to have a girl-friend who was a bit dippy and naive. we both liked the def leppard song 'love bites'. the hilarious part is she thought it was talking about love bites, you know the nipping kind... i didn't disabuse her of the idea... ; )
  10. michael, oy oy!!! but where are the jubs?
  11. hah, now you got me thinking. i remember hearing years ago a song that has some humorous verses. but i cant seem to find any of the lyrics online. the stanza is: fire, fire, fire down below. let's bring a pail of water boys, there's fire down below. one of the verses has something about a crow in the crow'snest pooping on the poopdeck. as a kid i thought it was hilarious! please help me out here...who did that song? was it kingston trio? pete
  12. i dont know...my wife and kids take turns hiding the remotes...we've had numerous epic remote hunts in our house!
  13. hello there, i'm using nad components with klipschorns. they sound good to my uneducated ears. i bought them on the advice of the local stereo shop as being a decent lower cost choice. my main object was to get a quiet amp with no background hiss which is what i have with the nad. i've heard mention that there are reliability issues with nad. so far and after a year i've had no problems at all. pete
  14. oh good grief, yes, sorry about that. i have a short list of relatively inexpensive tube-type amps written down and i accidently got the two mixed up. i did mean the scott. thankyou very much for the info. how do the two models compare (222 vs 299) as far as wpc, inputs/outputs, sound quality, etc? thanks again for any info on these!
  15. hi all, i'm looking at a fisher 299 amp online and wonder what the exact dimensions are for this so i know for sure it will fit in the slot of my entertainment center. thanks for the info! by the way, does anone have one of these amps that has been already restored and would like to find a home for it? thanks again!
  16. i know i'm demonstrating my ignorance of all things electronic but what are these little amps good for. i have an ss component system and would love to have a low cost alternative to play with hooked to the khorns. also a lack of space comes into play in my music/library/computer/office room. thanks for the info!! pete
  17. hi all, yes, unfortunately being in a rural area of virginia, we are stuck with dial-up unless i want to invest in a t-1 line. thankyou for your understanding! i've often been stuck with a long download and either had to take a nap or reboot. pete
  18. my god, are those all yours? by the way, the only time i ever actually drove my kids out of the house was playing pink floyd (the culprit not being the content but the volume...). my daughter gave me hell but i'm trying to help her with developing her cultural sense... necesary life skills must contain some classic rock at ear splitting levels! pete
  19. p.s. yes, funny you mentioned it but i was close to scottsville earlier today at a friends house. we are about 20 miles to the south of there in the rockfish valley, another beautiful place. it's been rain today but good lord the green is busting out all over!! hope to chat with you sometime soon. pete
  20. i want to thank larry and thebes for their gracious replies. i look forward to the event. please let me know when money is needed for the concert. this got me in the mood and i'm listening to the brahms concertos even as i write. a funny story: i used to help my dad in his watch and clock shop when i was in my teens. one evening after store hours he cranked up the music and managed to blow one of the speakers while playing one of the parts of holst's planets. we both laughed about that later and the good part (besides having a rather aborted musical session with holst) was he got speakers that were rated for more power. in fact i believe he built that set and it was the first set of bookshelf sized speakers i ever remember that sounded better than the big speakers we had at the house. wow, i got to looking forward to after hours at the shop. except for albums we used to listen to kvod in denver, still a great station imho. pete
  21. hi all, my wife and i have a vintage collection of lp's that i had been wanting to listen to again. i've had an old technics dd turntable i've had forever and decided it was time to fire it up again. got a new cartidge because the old one sounded muted with too much base. wow, even tho it isnt high-end i'm enjoying the hell out of our records again. classic rock, classical, old country western...you name it we got it. and i started looking for more lp's. check out all the thrift stores!!! i've found a lot of real gems for almost nothing. yes a lot of the lp's in the bin are trashed but i've found a number of pristine condition lp's for $1 or less each. so either drop your pride or put on your wino disguise (mine is a long dirty overcoat and jeans with holes in the knees. it helps if you have a two day old beard) and visit the goodwill or salvation army store and check out the collection of records the have or sale on the shelf. never know what you will find...
  22. hi all, well as far as i can tell, no damage to the house. however, my wife complains that i'm always turning the volume up so i have to wonder if my 50 year old ears are what are taking the damage. oh well, so far the farthest up the volume knob needs to be turned is about 45 degrees. that leaves me more than 3/4's of a turn before i run out of head-room. besides, i only have a 35 wpc amp. there's always higher power amps available. wow...sky's the limit!!!
