  1. hi, What kind of 6922 tube came with the Merlin ? If it's not a nos tube then by all means get one. Larry
  2. hi, "second system? I highly doubt it, not with tubes" Well it's a second system, not a secondary system. The Forte's are in the living room and I'll try to convince the boss to put them there and use them with the Cary SLI-80, otherwise they go in the Rec-room/computer-room with the EICO, which is a great amp, very sweet and natural sounding with a good phono stage. This means of course I have to retube the EICO with nos tubes, more fun ahead. Larry
  3. hi all, I picked up a pair of Cornwalls on Ebay for 710.00 see here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5800039774&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT Looks like one of them had a plant or something on top of it, but otherwise they appear in pretty good shape. After all that is said here I can't wait to hear them and see how they compare to my Forte I's I'm going to use them in a second system with my EICO HF-81 and eventually with a SET of some sort. Can anyone look at the serial numbers and tell me what year they are from ? thanks, Larry

  10. hi, I'm looking to buy a tube preamp to use with my Soundcraftsman SS power amp ( 230 watts per channel, high current amp ). The two that I've found so far are the JuicyMusic Orange and the Wright Sound Labs WLA 12A preamp. The JuicyMusic uses three 6922's and the Wright uses two 6SN7's and a 6EM7. Any one have experience with these preamps ? I'm leaning towadds the octal based tube amp. Advice about these or other choices are welcomed. Price range is 1000 to 1500 dollars. It will be used with Klipsch Forte I's in a 24 x 14 X 8 foot room and the music I listen to is mostly jazz. Tahnks Larry

  12. hi, here's a good place to start reading about 6sn7's. http://www.tubeseller.com/ratings.html I have the RCA VT231 and Raytheon VT231 and of the two I like the Raytheon a bit more, but both are great. Larry

  16. hi, I have a pair of NOS Raytheon 6SN7WGT and a pair of RCA VT-231 I use and really like them both. The RCA is a bit more laid back then the Raytheon but both are very musical and great tubes. Larry
  17. hi, Attached is a pic of the innerards of my rebuilt hf-81. In a recent thread you asked to see it. I know nothing about rebuilding amps so I'd appreciated it if you can tell me what they did. thanks, Larry
  18. hi, Let's see if we can hit 200 (posts in this thread), it should be real intersting. I reread Kev's posts and find nothing offensive in them. BTW who is AC/DC, is he good to listen to ? Does he play the sax ? Another BTW, " Charazz, Tralphaz and Beluga. " define these word please, I'm dying to know what they mean and if I can use them in public. Ok, I'm heading back to my pull-push, opps, I mean push-pull amp. Oh boy, sometimes I get so mixed up. I think the SET people got it eaiser, its only one word. All this is in jest ...except the first and second sentences of this post. Larry
  19. hi all, Just spending the afternoon cooking up a batch of chicken cacciatora, and listening to a CD entitled McCoy Tyner with Stanley Clark and Al Foster ( Telarc # 83488 ) on my Forte I's and sipping on some Coates du Rhone. The last cut on the cd, " I want to tell you about that" is a knockout. A great afternoon. Time to stir the chicken and pour another glass, cheers, Larry
  20. hi Kev, " have to admit that this topic is always entertaining, as it seems to bring out some actual personalities. Not good, but entertaining anyway. Why would you actually be arrogant about a choice in amplification? That doesn't suggest to me that you are serious or well-informed about your hobby. That shows me you are either a little crazy or have a hard time getting people to listen to you during your "off-the-computer" time. Those who are serious and well informed about their hobby, or well-informed in general, consider the strengths AND weakness of different approaches. There is certainly nothing wrong with having a personal preference for one approach, but advocating it while totally disregarding the positives of a different approach is, at best, ignorant. " Well said. My other hobby is astronomy and I've spent a whole lot more on astro stuff then hi-fi stuff. The same things happens, A says this scope is better, B says A is a jerk and they both forgot the the enjoyment is in the looking or photographing using the equipment you have and like. The same is true with audi0philes, the enjoyment is in listening to the music with the stuff YOU have and like. Some of us listen too much to the amps, speakers, cables and so on, and not enough to the music. You like SETs and thats great. The music sounds great to you and that's enough. No one should never have to defend that. Larry
  21. hi Cleve, thank you, I'll look for it. Larry
  22. hi, WRTI here in Philadelphia played a lot of cuts this weekend which showed his stuff as part of the MJQ. I didn't know he only had one CD issued under his name. A great talent fot the ages. Larry
