  2. That Vidar has been sitting a while so I took it down in my basement system to give it a workout and make sure everything was cool with it before selling it. I ran that sucker hard for about 45 minutes straight with some heavy stuff while I was working out. It got 'Aegir Hot' after about 30 minutes of cranking it. Never went into protection mode. Man that thing played so smooth and effortless...... I can't let it go. Sorry for jerking you guys around. I think I'm gonna get a proper balanced pre and check them out as mono-blocks. I've got a bunch of 6SN7's here so maybe I'll get the Freya. I dunno.... Anyway, I'll say this......the Vidar and the Aegir mate very good with Klipsch. Sure there's better out there but at the price point Schiit is selling them at they're certainly worth considering. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
  3. No, I was using an RCA-XLR converter. Unbalanced preamp (RCA) to the balanced (XLR) input on the Vidars. I never tried it with two Aegir's....only have one. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
  4. My preference is stereo but at the time I wasn't using a balanced preamp. I was using an XLR-RCA converter and something strange was affecting the sound quality affecting my evaluation. One minute it sounded great, next minute it just sounded 'off'. So I concluded that in my situation stereo sounded better. I do remember reading that the guys from Schiit eluded to the fact that stereo should give better sound quality vs mono-blocks. I'm sticking with stereo. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
  5. I agree with the Vidar. Not the case with the Aegir in my experience. My preference is the Vidar paired with a tube pre. The Aegir can go either way. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
  6. I thought the Vidar sounded better in stereo mode. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
  7. I have not tried a Freya + yet. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
  8. It turns out the Saga + with a Mullard 6SN7 works better with my Aegir but with my Vidars I prefer either my Marantz 3600 or a tube preamp which is a Chinese knock off of a Conrad Johnson design using four 5751's. The tube pre with the Vidar is my preference. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

  11. Yeah, that's why I bought them in the first place over 12 years ago. The problem is that when people give them negative reviews a big reason is that something in the speaker is screwed up be it the cabs falling apart leaking away bass making them sound lean and shrill. Or the crossovers malfunctioning. Or this or that or the other thing. If they're right, they are a very good performing speaker if not excellent. I just wanted them to work because I knew what they were capable of if working properly. The same could be said for other lines of Klipsch as well. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

  16. Ok Randy, you're obviously bothered by this so I'll tell you about a secret I've been keeping..... A couple-few years ago after fixing up my speakers, PWK came to me in a dream one night. He said "Son, I see that you and others have changed the components in your speakers".......and then he said, "What's up with that?" Then I said to him, "Sir, forgive me.....I have strayed but mean no harm". Then I went on to explain. "It's like this, Sir. My poorly made speakers were literally falling apart at the seems. The cheaply made woofers were blown with no replacements to purchase from Klipsch. The crossovers were faulty after only eight years of use. The tweeter diaphragms sucked from the beginning. The mid drivers were fine but I was on a roll so I changed them anyway. (After all how could I not after all of John Allen's extensive research)" Then Paul said "Do they still sound like Klipsch?" Then I said "Yes father.....only better". Paul looked me square in the eye and said he was gonna kick my arse. Then he lightened up and said "Ok, ok......I'll let it slide since the crossover values are still the same and you had good intentions". Then he told me I was a handsome young man and told me to rock out and tell RandyH to relax. That's how it went down. Exactly. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
  17. Replace every single component in a KLF-30, brace/seal the cabs and now you've really got sumthin..... Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

  19. I've decided to hang on to these. Changing preamps makes a big difference. I might be persuaded to let one of them go. As far as the transferable warranty, I'm not sure. I'll look into it but I think I remember reading that it's not. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
