If it has enough suction to pluck out an eyeball, don't use it on your speakers. --------------- too funny, thanks how do i test the eyeball thing? oh never mind. damp cloth scares me for some reason... but i don't know or i wouldn't have asked...

  3. well tomorrow is the day i have been waiting for. the forte's are comming home with me at the end of the work day tomorrow. there was a wait while the owners found replacements. seems the obvious is too hard to see so i had to help out...i asked how it was going, (the search for speakers) they said they couldn't find anything except some bose that they liked. lunch that day i printed the dealers address etc. for the local klipsch rep, left it lay in an obvious spot and shazamm. the bulb lit up in their head and off they went, 20 miles or so and they found some nice speakers so i get to have the forte's........... ok so now there is some dust on the radiator speakers. what is the best / safest way to clean it off? seems the darn contractor isn't doing a good enough job of keeping the dust under control.
  4. those are so cool, i knew the cornwall was prior to the chorus and forte i thought perhaps the vertical cornwall came into production between the regular corn and the later chorus and forte models as a sort of progression to change the footprint to something smaller?.? anyhow i had not heard of the vertical style and find it nice. thanks all, i will try to do more searching and less bothering.
  5. are there pics of these in a thread? i havn/t heard of these, are they like a transition style between corns and chorus/forte? just curious...
  6. i think you will like the new machines. much faster. pull up a chair and stay it's gonna be a long century...

Could / would anyone say that the difference in sound between the Forte 1 and 2 is significant, or are they more similar in character of sound? ---------------- i have not a-b listened to them. i have read in this forum three different opinions a) original forte's are better b)two's are better c)there is little if any difference the only speaker the two share is the tweeter. i think they had to deepen the cabinet about .25 in. for the mid horn in the two.
  8. since they were sold over a number of yrs it might have changed as time went by. also the finish might have changed the cost, not sure about that though. i believe the forte's were about 1200.00 a pair.
  9. i need less than 10' per side so it's regular ole monster cable. 16 ga. i think?
  10. if you could go three hundred you might pick up a pair of pristine belles in walnut oiled.
  11. super nice deal. heck i would pay 300.00 just to have the cabinets. imho the finest looking speaker made. that call was worth the .25 cents...
  12. great album would be nice as sacd... one smokin guitarist
  13. i am getting the forte's next week. i am seriously thinking about a carver zr1000 and this cd/tuner. any major problems with these other than the lack of tubes? i havn't seen a cd/tuner before. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=245-365 i listen to all kinds of music and my ears just aren't what they used to be. no ht just music. thank you
  14. i believe a lot of the sound is transfered through direct contact. studs to joists, wallboard to studs, etc. the more isolated you can keep each from the other the better. rigid contact is going to transfer sound. i think your wall/joist contact will substancially reduce your efforts. once in the floor joists it will conduct up throughout the house. if the wall is not bearing there are a lot of options for fastening w/o so much transfer of vibration. if it is bearing there are ways to minimize transfer and still bear loads. either way the portion above the wall between the joists with all sorts of stuff in the way will challenge the best. good luck
  15. geeze and all i wanted to do was listen to some music

I'm only interested if we can have a good flame war. ---------------- okie dokie i withdrawl my question. i was interested in replacing my aging equipment, not starting a big ole messy thread. peace
  17. a while back the forum bought all the mighty amps this side of earth. anyone ready to do some reviews? just curious.
  18. please help me here...i thought that you said you were moving and space was going to be a problem. i didn't think you said you had found some new fangled whiz bang speakerz so out go the khorns. i am sure you and most people that can hear would never try to tell you with a straight face these would be able to compete with your khorns. but, if space requirements deem it necessary to downsize the units then why would corns be so much better those aren't small speakers. tell you what, i have a pair of radio shak speakers that are about 4 inches tall 3 inches wide and 3 inches deep, they sound just like khorns so if you want to trade i am willing to find a spot for you khorns. good luck finding a replacement for the best speakers ever made. it's gonna be hard.
  19. thank you i will have a go at it.
  20. JBL LX44 i pulled the grills off for a look and found the foam? band that goes from the edge of the speaker to the cabinet is disintigrating on both of my bass speakers. they do not seam to sound much different, perhaps even better, not as stiff, does this just seal the cabinet so the air comes out the hole they provide in the back. should this be fixed? the cones seem fine. i will be giving these to my son to take to college in the fall.
  21. you need to disconnect from the internet, run anti-virus and check for ad-ware. if i understood your post, i had a similar thing and it was a trojan that was using my pc to send email. it must have been malfunctioning in some way due to the mail that was comming back to me from the recipiants. you might also contact your isp to see if they will help.
  22. some folks are good wood workers, thus being able to make them shine again. my worry would be if there was that little respect for the cabinets that the guts got pounded as well. then they could still be parted out.
  23. while i don't claim to now much, i do hate it when i hear that voice with the scottish accent saying "I'm given her all she's got captain, any more and she's gonna blow". I tend to over-build so i would lean towards MORE POWER. you can always turn it down! can you turn it up becomes the question .
