  1. Ok, as I like bana plugs myself, I have an alternative for you. Try some of these: http://www.cobaltcable.com/loose_locking_banana_plugs.htm They aren't too clunky and lock in - I have had too many folks walk through my speaker cable runs, hook the cable, pull them out and then short my amp, I wanted some that locked down, and found these...I like them. Just a thought. K
  2. Shoot! Those things were gone within hours of that listing, so which one of you no-life Craigslist campers got em? I am jealous! K
  3. Thanks for the replies, and I knew I would get the "they are KHorns, just go get 'em", that was the same thing I thought. I am hanging low for a bit, still trying to work out the travel and the cost, but if I pick them up I will surely post picts! I am definitely in the market, I am just keeping low to the ground and my antennae up... K
  4. Ok, just curious, got a line on a pair of 77's - what do you all think of the vintage? What are the most desirable years? What are the differences in sound from decade to decade? What is the best combo of drivers and crossover configurations? Oh, and thanks! I already **tried** to search for the answer! k
  5. Really? Well that is a new one on me...I thought that was the whole deal...Then why do you hear the 5.1 tracks from DVD video movies over fiber or coax? Are you telling me that DVD-A is analog only, but the DVD-V is digital? I listened to DVD-A for quite a while before I got the analog audio wires in the mail, and it decoded into separate channels? OR was I listening to some manufactured surround sound thing? Strange, if true, I didn't know that at all...maybe that is why I was never terribly impressed with 5.1 DTS or DD audio discs...gotta go home and try it out now! Interesting... K
  6. Hmmm...yes you have a lot of stuff on your plate. SACD format is kind of weird, it is only output via 5.1 analog RCA, which means that your player will have to have 5.1 RCA outputs, one for each channel...some commentators have reasoned this to be one of the major reasons for the demise of SACD is the fact that no one would make SACD output from a digital connector (coax or fiber)...whatever....You can still get the players (picked up my Denon not too long ago -and it is universal, plays DVD-A and SACD), and they are still releasing the discs, but the big box places have virtually stopped carrying the things - they are expensive too, but you can find them for trade or cheap(er) at places like overstock - check out elusivedisc.com, and take a look at the list of titles. If I were you, I would save my pennies until all fo this stuff comes to fruition, appears that this next year is going to be a PIA when it comes to the new DVD formats, players, codecs and stuff. In all of this, I would/will not be an early adopter (see the HDMI-Component threads) - I would just hang tight, unless you have a couple of hundred bucks to get a DVD-A player or SACD to tie you over...I am loving mine, but then I will be having it for a while. My attempts at a music server have failed miserably due to fan noise and my fancy soundcard just not producing the kind of sound I wanted...makes me cringe to think of the sounds I was pumping through my Corns. At the end of the day, Klipschorns are forever...screw whatever formats change... K
  7. MeAgain! Are you serious, you haven't heard of the already dead SACD format? They are still releasing stuff in SACD from the smaller labels, but it can't last long. Man, I can tell you that I haven't heard anything quite like it...the Dark Side of the Moon by Floyd is fantastic in SACD or "Super Audio" compact disc ($15.00 on Overstock). My experience with SACD has been short but costly (as in non-stop buying frenzy), classical music in SACD is brilliant (but tends to show up problems in live recordings), but the jazz has been incredible. I have discovered Art Pepper (Meets the Rythem Section esp.) all over again, and it has been awesome. At least if you pick up a hybrid SACD, you will still be able to play it when the format truly dies. What is really fun is when you switch from SACD to regular format and you hear the difference. Most of the old stuff that is remastered into SACD is still only 2 channel, or three channel at most, but the quality (resolution?) to my ears is far better. After all of the talk, I have ordered PT - we shall see. I really enjoyed the PT video that was linked a while back, and I am sure I will like the album. Jethro is more my speed, but this is sounding better and better. Hey, while we are on it...I had thrown in a old traveling cd with a bunch of tunes on it, and we got to Sk8ter Boi by Avril Lavigne, and you want to talk about scaring the hell out of me, we were cooking in the next room and had the RF's and the SVS cranked, and that tune literally knocked stuff off the wall - there is an insanely low note in that song, and I frankly had never heard it loud before (nor had I played it on anything that could approximate the note - **not** an avid Avril listener) and I thought the book shelves were gone...check it out. K
  8. Hey Dee, I have the same laptop...if it does that in SAFE mode, it is a driver issue, go get the latest driver from the Dell site, or do a little research for post Dell Nvidia drivers (there are a couple of Inspiron guys that have sites where they keep vid drivers for games and stuff like that, you can probably get a much faster and more recent driver form one of these site, just be careful)... Then use the FN+F8 button (orwhat ever the combo is, you can tell from the little blue letters on it, says CRT/LCD or something like that on the top number row), to change the video monitor output... K
  9. Not that we have any real dealers of Klipsch reference in the DFW Metroplex since Ultimate Electronics bit the dust not too long back, but...I haven't seen a whole lot of clearance prices on RC-7's because I have been looking for a while. I just purchased one from a local "installer" who insisted his was new in box (never installed), with some minor blemishes, and a full warranty (as he is an authorized "dealer") for $600.00 and I was glad to get it. Saw not too long ago (within last 2 weeks), a year old black RC7 center go in excess of $600 on Ebay and that didn't include shipping or a warranty I think. There seems to be a lot of them all of a sudden glutting the market, but the prices don't seem to be heading downward, from what I can see. K
  10. Hey Trey, Will we have some place where we can bring some equipment (bigger than the breakfast nook at the Holiday Inn)? I think for somehting liek this we may be able to pull out the stops, get some fine examples of all different stuff from over the years, and maybe some of the modded new stuff too? I would love to hear what Roy thinks of DeanG modded RF-7's... Can we get a room rate from the nice folks at HI? Any nice little B&B's around there might like to hook us up? Is the Clinton tour on the schedule? K
  11. Yes, I picked them up personally. But frankly, I had asked a lot of questions...he told me that the cabs had scratches and I saw a few of them, but he assured me that the scratches would only take "some lemon oil" get it? I looked them over, as I pointed out, very quickly, and paid the man. I figured he has answered all of my questions, and I felt comfortable that they were what he said. I did not see the crushed bottom edge or corner, he specifically told me there were no crushed corners! Condo was dark when I picked them up, the whole thing was staged - and I got taken - still doesn't make what he did right. But what really steamed me is not the condition of the cabs, even though I think he lied about the condition, he also stated the speakers were in perfect working condition and had never been modifed...When I get them home the tweeter on one speaker is blown and the woofers were ten years newer ..NOT stuff you could see on cursory inspection...get it? How many people are going to let you take their speakers apart when you go to get them, huh? Yes, I was close and take a certain amount of blame for the cabs - but the blown tweet and the replaced woofers? Not my fault and downright dishonest. I kept the speakers when he refused to give me my money back...so it is not like I got away with anything. Hey but don't take my word for it, go buy the fortes, good luck. K
  12. What are we, your mother(s)? Of COURSE you should plan to come! K
  13. Hope! Cool, I really enjoyed that trip..and are you sure Goatroper was on the "outskirts" of Hope? Good grief, it seemed like twenty miles away from anything! Hey Dog, I think if this pans out, we need to make a DFW contigent convoy, and bring some more equipment this time, what do you say? I would love to put my modded RF-7's next to the new models to hear the difference, with the RC-7 stacked up against that quad cone center monstrosity they have planned, I think that would be killer...Or I could bring the CW2's for comparison the new CW3? I don't know, it boggles the mind...we could have a real "do"here in the making. Earlier the better, don't think the GR would be too good in AK heat? We defnintely need to find a dedicated listening room (S) this time, the breakfast nook at the Holiday Inn isn't going to cut it... K
  14. Hey ya'll, I had mentioned some time ago about being scammed by a guy in Dallas over a pair of Heresy II's, I asked a bunch of questions (still have the full e-mail conversation) and the guy claimed they were bought new about '86 and which had some scratches that could be fixed with "lemon oil" and were working 100%, so I picked them up, paid the man and didn't look real closely at them (yes, I know, big mistake) Then I got them home, found a tweeter blown and a crossover loose, so I opened them up to investigate the crossover, and found that the woofers were 19-95- not -85-, and had obviously been replaced - which he denied. Further, there were corners crushed which could not be just "lemon oiled" - when I pointed this out, he said that he never saw the damage and how could we both have missed it, and he wasn't sure what damage <I> had caused after I picked them up, so he wasn't giving me my money back. Complained to Ebay but since I paid cash, so sorry. Seller stated I had chance to inspect and reneged (but fails to say he got his money for these beaters). Well guess what? He is selling his other pair of Klipsch (Forte II's) on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Forte-II-Speakers_W0QQitemZ5855364884QQcategoryZ14993QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Note how the speakers are real close together so you can't see the sides, or the bottom corners real well. Notice also that the other auction he had with me has expired. The picts only show one top and fuzzy pict of one label and that is it...got a question from a hopeful buyer, and this alerted me to this guy again. Run away gentlemen, run away. K
  15. Hey Amy, What exactly does Klipsch do to refurb these speakers? Do you have any idea why they were sent back or are they floor rejects that didn't make the anechoic chamber tests for output and were reworked, or what? I am just curious what these things go through, and do they have cosmetic damage only or what? (Any black ones coming up anytime soon?) Thanks, Bruce
  16. Hey, I read your post and didn't want to leave you hanging, but I think you may have a problem. I think you are referring, if I am not totally mistaken to the Promedia series of computer speakers with a control pod and small satellites that sit on little stands, which are made to hook into the subwoofer pass through box which sits on the floor right? Problem is, that is not just a subwoofer, it is the heart of the matter, with an amplifier in it that powers the speakers. WIthout the amplifier/sub, I am just not sure you can run these things straight from a soundcard output, hence the reason they have those little speaker clip things on the back and not small RCA jacks? I think that if you try to attach these separately directly to a sound card, you will be disappointed in the sound, and if you try to connect directly to a full power amp you may damage them irreparably. First though you need to go on the main Klipsch site and identify what you have, look for "Promedia" and go from there, they should have pictures of the speakers you have. Does anyone know the power handling capability of these things? If they aren't promedia, then disregard this post. K
  17. Hey! Welcome to the forums! Nice system you indicate and thanks for your heads-up. After thinking of several funny things to say, all I can do is say that, yes, we have been told the same thing, and discussions have been taking place across the board: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/662956/ShowPost.aspx and there are picts from CES here: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/666593/ShowPost.aspx and on the main website. K
  18. Hey, I am selling my center channel, as I am attempting to get my speakers matched. Bought it new, and like all of my speakers, I have babied the thing and never pushed it to hard. This center is in perfect shape, and as I am listening to it, it sounds very good. The Klipsch site says that it is a matched speaker for the KSP-300 and 400 fronts; I remember someone on the Hope tour telling me that my center matched their system and would be interested in it if I ever sold it, but I am sorry I don't remember who that was. I don't mind shipping on you dime but would prefer local pickup, of course. I don't know what the center is worth or frankly what I paid for it, so before I put it on Ebay, is anyone here interested in making me a reasonable offer in the couple hundred range? I have never seen this series come up on auction for sale or on audiogon, so I am just not sure FMV. K
  19. Same cheesy feet on the towers? These just look like my 7's with an extra woofer (well that is what they are, aren't they?) I was expecting something, well, better looking with a squawk horn, are they just adding the tweeter horn for reputation sake?...Seems to me if you add a sub to your system, the extra woofer is superfluous? I really thought we would see something more along the lines of that "premier" Klipsch product we saw in the european thread, or is it the company is making the stylish more modern looking speakers for europe and foisting the boxy towers on us? Makes you wonder... K
  20. OK, I went to bed when Texas was down like 12 points, wake up this morning and WHAM, I'm kicking myself for leaving early, but I had to ruin society a little more this morning for some folks that wanted to argue about who was better at screwing up their children, but its all MY fault. This isn't just a win for UT, it is a win for Texas...I didn't go to school here, but I am a native, and hearing that they won just sets me off, good for them. NOW, lets talk about that touchdown on the pitch by Vince early in the game, when he was clearly DOWN (knee on the ground), that USC didn't call for a review and the hurried field goal thereafter...NOBODY this morning has been mentioning that - smart and wiley, that is what I say. K
  21. At Mickey Rats? Vail? huh? Since when? When I used to go to Rats it was a dive (and I myself was vastly underage)...but then it has been a very long time. All those little areas (Derby) along the lake were (in the old days) crumbling little shacks. Oh well, things change. Wentworth state park was always nice though, I think that was how you spell it... Nice reminiscing, I need a drink. And don't forget the pussywillows... K
  22. Yes, definitely Texas. Been to California my first time when I was 13. Ooooh mannn!! California girls!! Can't wait! Friends, California girls don't hold a candle to purdy little Texan gals! >>> Unless they are attorneys... By the by, what area of law do you practice? Have you been stupid enough to get board certified? (Don't do it man...) K
  23. Actually, little place called "Eden", close to Hamburg. 18 mile wends into some nice steep little valleys, but old man Kromer's mill has fallen down or been torn out I hear...too bad. Been politely ask to leave there at the business end of a shot gun several times, good days. Too few unfortunately. Dad was steel worker, I lived through the days of driving into the city and having to cover my nose because the smell was so bad outside the Bethlehem steel smelter, ahhh the memories. How 'bout that skyway in a high wind? Yup, those were the good old days...blizzards were nice though, and so was the CANADIAN side of the falls, Niagara on the Lake was THE place...could have lived in Canada man, but our side was just plain embarrassing..still like that, anyone know? What happened to the "Turtle"?? Let me guess... I pass... K
