  1. thanks for the info i was hopeing that luck may be on my side
  2. I am wondering about putting 2 12s on a lascala network. the 12s would be eithe k22 or k24 what i am wondering is if they are wired in series or parell will they still maintain the corect xover hz or will i need to have a special network made to do this the midrange and tweeter wil be lascala drivers. any help is a plus cause the only way i can tell is by ear when i get to try it out in the next few weeks. im just trying to plan ahead.
  3. I have been building since Saturday night a center channel what started out as a medium size project turns out bigger as always. My center will consist of 2 12s from a heresy and the mid and tweeter from a lascala. When I get it closer to being painted I will throw pics up of the build but I am havening a hard time trying to come up with a project forum post name. Here is a pic of what I thought of starting out as by using 2 Heresy2 parts into one cabinet but my ideas evolved into some thing I think a lot of you will like. I decided against my first plan of this pic (sorry for the bad Photoshop job really sorry for the bad Photoshop job) I am not happy with this idea but I am sure it would work
  4. well these may not be an original but inmside and out are matching veneer even the inside of the doghouse and risers i hope to put a new finish on them and then soon and then maybe i will have some new pictures. just wanted to contribuite to the image show.
  5. most likely since the h-II were veneer over mdy also with a plywood front plate got the second one built but ran out of glue for 2 of the inside pieces so im done for to night if im energetic i will finish spraying them tomorrow and build the risers then im completly done. btw thanks for the compliment
  6. well i had the brite idea of destroying a good heresy 2 cabinet to make a set of what i call retro heresy II. i personly like them better than the original cabs and i think that it gives it a really nice look. since i destroyed one cabinet to make my templets the only good news is that i can make more of them if i like. I think the next set i might make in maple with 11 or 13 ply birch. i hope everyony likes these as much as i do. its not completly done i have a few more little things left to do like recess the terminal plate and build risers. for now its one down and one to go.
  7. i think what i might try is to make a k horn from the plans that i have found on the net but with a removable back assembly that functions like the enclosed back does but have it removable this shouldnt be to hard to do with using the kreg pocket hole for screwing it together i just hope i dont end up with a pile of fire wood. i will always have the lascalas i made to listen to. i will start withe the original plans and modifiy it to the best of my ability
  8. cant afford a new set and i already have the drivers and alot of time to try to build them im thinking heavy figured anigre or pomele sapeli as the face im also debating on makint the internal panels matching grain. i work in a shop that presses venere on plywood and that finishes them for boat companys.
  9. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated. I would like to try to build a set of k-horns *** close to a match as the 60th anniversary model as possible as in doing so I have a few questions. 1) are all internal pieces made using mdf from what I can tell most inner ramps are birch ply 2) I would like to know as many of the measurements as possible from an actual 60th k-horn as possible letters a-I letter A) thickness Thickness C) opening edge to edge not edge to front D) inside opening E) overall front height of bass bin F) thickness G) width edge to edge if possible will settle for front width and side grill thickness H)front to back I) would be from the inner corner to corner where the side grill would sit. This is a project that I will be taking my time on and hope to finish. My goal is to build one of the best looking diy k-horns I have already built a set of LaScalas that turned out beautiful but hope to put a better finish on them than the one that is on there now. Thank you to anyone that has offered me there time to help me with this project of mine. I already have I think all the plans that I can find on the net for the k-horn.
  10. the table saw is the best way although i considered a roughter table and fence with the board vertical and a 30 degree bit i think you can find a 60 degree bit and run it on a roughter table flat but im not sure either way u need to build a fence
  11. dr who my box is 6.92 before driver displacement and port displacement does your blue chart take this into effect is the 7.0 a empty box or a loaded box im pretty surt its loaded just want to make sure
  12. i measured 1 hz using a cd that has a swee[p from 80 to 1 and it played all of it i could see it with my eyes at the last sec of the track. the 1 hz may not have output as far as spl but it is there as far as box size im use to car audio sub boxes and i went with my gut feeling on what i thought for home theater and it roocks with thunderous bass for movies i still need an eq for music but by ear its not to bad the box size was for a small reason i need it to fit in my back seat and get it home from work lol thanks for the box size and tuning for my next one in time
  13. so i decided to make a ht sub. i didnt want a large foot print so i made i made the cabinate 16x20 inches with a base of 17.75x22.25 and so what it stands just under a mear 53 inches. i was lookin for loud deep bass with impact and i achived it well my concrete slab in my living room vibrates confirmation from a few friends i still cant belive it. i ended up using jl audio subs 12w3v2 dual 2 ohm to get one tower to 2 ohms and when i get 2 more speakers ill have two towers i have them both built just not the speakers for the other one. even musicaly these speakers bleend nicely but rarely use them for music mostly movies. each tower is like 6 cu ft and tuned to 28hz and i can change this if i need to i made it so i can change it if i so desire. i have no idea on the actual output other than it can play down to 1 hz with the amp im using an evq66 capable of bridged 4 ohm 1700 watts or 2 ohm per channel at 850 continous the speakers are 300 rms each
  14. tab benoit - album nice and warm, it was his first cd 1992 he has a web site, and it is a great blues album
  15. they should take time to match and follow through the grain from one peice to the other of course this costs mere and we dont want that and they would need to press them themselves oh well. the way they are doing it if a piece is no good they dont waste money so this is good for us hopefull so much for the detail in veneer. i just love the detail it lacks
  16. They no longer veneer Heritage, but rather get pre-cut wood or MDF pieces with veneer already applied. That accounts for the fact that the grain on the 3/4" side of the upper part of the LaScala doesn't match that on the side of the 1" MDF bass portion. However, they do the staining and final finish at the factory. I was told that they no longer have oak and mahogany veneer available, a recent change it seems to me. im guessing by this that the grain doesnt follow through from top to bottom to me that lack attention to detail
  17. indyklipschfan thanks for the compliment on the speakers just building therm the way i think they should of been. if i would of made them of cherry i could of been done a long time ago but i like the exotic wood. i still hav a bit to go. i still want to have the horns copper plated. i think that it would make them look rich.
  18. the cheap ryobi tools are ok i only have the drill i just dont expect much from it has no power to it i use my friends dewaly or porter cable when i have alot to do but fine but dont expect much imo
  19. the heresy in the pic has a different riser on it looks like it has a v shape to it maybe they ported it into a horn shape that uses the floor as part of the horn port
  20. well since it is hard to find pomele sapeli wood in 3/4 thick for the face for the horns what i am doing is taking 34 peices of veneer and glueing them up to make a chunk of wood once i have done all the peices i'll assemble them like a cabinate face frame with pocket holes on the back side and then press a clean face on top to hide the seams. the reason im going through this trouble is cause i dont want to see plywood edges around the horn, or paint it black or even edge band the inside edge and leave 90 degree corners i want to see the radius edges around the horn this will be alot of work but worth it.
  21. top doesnt have poly on it or the front isnt done not even the right xover (heresy xover) oh and to top it off i have the heresy 12" in the box but i just couldnt wait to at least hear a little. sounds pretty good for not sounding the way it should. i really want to make the face plate out of real wood but i cant find any so im gonna have to try to glue up veneer to make the 3/4 thickness i need just didnt want to go this rought but it will take a bit more time but it will be worth it when i give the edge a slight radius and still see grain instead of plywood or for temp. ill paint the plywood black but dont know yet. im defintly in love withe these speakers thanks everyone for your replys and comments
  22. just a touch of burnt siena to the paste wood filler u can see the natural color of the wood near the top inside or on the inside of the dog house if i dont use the burnt siena the large pores of the grain would look like there is white stuff in it so i had to tint the paste
  23. and another, but this project is kickin my but with the detai im puttin in to it i might just take a coupple of days off from it just so i dont get to the point that i start to rush it. if anyone actully reads this im considering sand blasting both horns and smothing out the k400 with a file and copper plateing both lenses whats your guys opinion on this i think this would be the final touch that would set these lascalas off the deep end
