Interesting observation about speaker placement
wuzzzer replied to wuzzzer's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I think its a little of both. The previous owners definitely did not have acoustics in mind when they finished off the basement room that my stereo is in. They did have a TV and speakers and at one time even had a pair of Klipsch. Whatever the difference is, it sounds better to me! -
My basement is only about 10 feet wide so to get the widest soundstage I have put the various speakers I've owned right up to the wall, toed in towards the listening position. I installed 2" acoustic foam in a 2 foot by 2 foot square on each side wall to lessen the first reflections. The foam helped quite a bit. As seen in my signature, my house currently is the home of 3 pairs of Klipsch speakers. When my friend brought his KLF30s over to my house to store until he gets a new place to live I put them in between my Forte's and the TV. Well, a couple days ago I decided to move the KLF30s out of the way since I had been primarily listening to my Forte's and the KLF30s were in the way of me being able to get behind my TV and to my subwoofer. I decided to experiment with the Forte's and I moved each of them about 6-8" from the side wall, again toed in toward the listening position. I put in a few different CDs and was very pleased with the results. The stereo imaging actually improved noticeably, and ironically the sound seemed to have an even wider soundstage than it did before. Recorded ambiance such as echoes and reverberated notes and voices seemed to emanate from all around the speaker instead of directly from them. I'm glad I took the few seconds to give it a try! I guess 'wider is better' is better suited for Pontiacs than Klipsch!

My best friend's Dad has the Bose system. He paid $1000 for it at Sam's Club. I'd love to be able to have him hear the Klipsch system and realize how good he could have had it!

One rule of thumb that someone posted on here was that a good distance to start at is to measure the diameter of the port(s) of a speaker and place the speaker the same distance from the wall as the total diameter of the port(s).

Someone locally on craigslist has a pair of Chorus II for sale for $1200. Nice try. If you check eBay you'll see that Forte's generally go between upper $300s to $600 depending on color and condition. Add a couple hundred for the Chorus IIs.

Good price for a great speaker. I'm lovin' mine! Currently jamming to U2's 18 singles CD that my wife just got me.

No Sound / hookig up speakers to receiver
wuzzzer replied to lumi38ca's topic in Technical/Restorations
I'm just home quick on my dinner break or I'd have some time to post a how-to. If someone hasn't answered by the time I get home from work tonight I'd be happy to! -
can someone help me date this Heresy please? 8545164.

Best way is to just be yourself. Be honest but not too honest. Dinner and a movie is usually a good place to start. -
Cool, didn't expect to hear so many positive responses since I hadn't ever heard of the QSC brand name before. Now someone just needs to buy my RF-7s! []

I've owned them for 1 year. They are approximately 2 years old. I will deliver them up to 100 miles from central Minnesota free of charge. Willing to meet someone 100 miles from central Minnesota as well. There are some bumps on the corners, and the grills have broken feet on them (don't they all?) but they have enough intact feet that they both stay on just fine. The top right corner of one of the speakers has a repaired crack in the front board but with the grills on it is very difficult to see. See the pics for details. Asking $1000/bo.

Isn't LG the bottom of the barrel stuff that places like Ultimate Electronics and Best Buy sell?

I noticed that this amp has XLR and 1/4" inputs. Is it difficult to get an adaptor that goes from RCA to 1/4"? Is there any degredation in sound by doing so? Do these amps have a good reputation? 300 watts x 2 (8 ohm), 500 watts x 2 (4 ohm), 800 watts x 2 (2 ohm). Distortion (SMPTE-IM) Less than 0.01% Distortion (Typical) 20 Hz-20 kHz: 10 dB below rated power 1.0 kHz and below: full rated power Less than 0.01% THD Less than 0.01% THD Frequency Response 20 Hz-20 kHz, +/- 0.2 dB / 8 Hz-50 kHz, +0, -3 dB Damping Factor Greater than 500 Input Impedance 6k ohms unbalanced, 12 k ohms balanced Input Clipping 10 Vrms (+22 dB) Cooling Variable-speed fan, rear-to-front air flow Connectors, each channel Input: 3-pin XLR & 1/4" TRS balanced Output: Neutrik® Speakon® and touch-proof binding posts Amplifier Protection Full short circuit, open circuit, thermal, ultrasonic, and RF protection Stable into reactive or mismatched loads I can pick one up pretty cheap. I also still have my RF-7s that I have up for sale on craigslist but if the amp is good I'd be interested to see how they sounded with the QSC. Also would my HK be an ok pre-amp for this?

Typically if you get a good quality shielded cable it should fix the problem. Are you using decent cable or the el cheapo stuff?

5th anniversary of proposing marriage to my wife tonight

Lol, mine's stock too. Maybe I could open it up and throw a few random tubes in there and see how it changes the sound. I can just hear the warmth already! -

At first I thought "Wow, lots of people posted their congratulations!" Then I see the conversation go downhill. Oh well. Anyone up for a no-holds-barred HK 3480 versus anything you got contest? [] (Just thought I'd join in on the fun) -
5th anniversary of proposing marriage to my wife tonight
wuzzzer replied to wuzzzer's topic in General Klipsch Info
Well my wife came home and was surprised to see the lit candles. She read the card I got for her and loved the flowers. Then I asked her if she could figure out why I lit 5 candles. It took her a few seconds and then she was embarassed that she didn't remember the date. HA! Score 1 for me! [] We drove an hour to the Italian restaurant and we had fried ravioli for an appetizer (incredible!), ziti al forno (shrimp and chicken with ziti and cheese and ham...wow) and for dessert two cannolis. I'm so stuffed right now, and I have about half of the ziti in the fridge to take to work tomorrow and my wife has a whole cannoli to enjoy. It was fun to surprise her. She had planned to spend the evening cleaning the house. I think she enjoyed my plan just a little better. -
Enjoy! I've loved every minute of mine.

If you already have a 3380, I don't know how much improvement that a 3480 is going to make. You'll have a few more watts and that's about it. As mentioned above the vMax isn't something that's too thrilling to listen to. Going from 3380 to 3480 is going to be pretty much a sideways move. If you go to a nice Rotel or Outlaw unit I'd say you'd be making a jump up in quality from the HK. Also, most receivers such as the Outlaw have a mode that you can defeat the bass management from the receiver and allow the sub to do it itself. I'd look into that before ruling that out. Outlaw has a great reputation on here.

I know, I know. Call me a romantic fool but I think that I should do something special for my wife tonight considering 5 years ago tonight she agreed to marry me. So far I have: Lit 5 candles in a hanging chandelier-type thing in our dining room, bought her a beautiful floral bouquet and a nice card to go with it. She has to work until 7pm tonight and I have a nice dinner planned at her favorite Italian restaurant (Biaggi's in Maple Grove, MN). I'm not going to tell her where we're going. She'll probably figure it out when we get close, though. I knew picking January 1st would make it easy to remember when I popped the question! [A] And, considering that everything in my signature below (with the exception of our TV) was purchased in 2006, I have quite a bit to be thankful for!

Thanks for the replies guys. I wish I could try them out with my speakers before I committed to them.
