Scott, The Quad's are a very different type of sound. VERY airy with clean, open sound but with surprising bass. They are not a slamming rock speaker but voice, jazz, instrumentals and most orchestral music melts in your ears! The music seems to come at you from all directions when placed properly and I guess a better description would be "enveloping". They of course sound best if you have dedicated sweet spot and do take some height/leg adjustment but feel they are perfect for most applications and perfect if you have neighbors on attached walls. You also want to use a limited power supply or you can easily fry them. The McIntosh MC-225 seems to be an excellent match and I wish I would have hooked the QUAD 2 amps I had to them to see how they would have sounded. Sold them off a couple of years agao and had the 57's in storage. Finally decided to break them out and was quite pleased. How did you like the Model 9's you picked up? Never had them so I was curious. Hoping all is well. Barry

Thanks for the info Amy and will check your blog shortly. There has been much discussion (most negative to the McIntosh TT) but I heard that dealers were placing orders! At a 7K price point, I believe there are many competitors that can meet or exceed it although it may sound wonderful! The looks just don't work and what is the meter actually showing? Just my .02

Tomorrow evening, I am meeting with a group from North Carolina and we are going to compare the two. I just sold the La Scala's (to a new forum member) and am dropping them off in NC for pick-up at a later date. I am bringing a MC-275 and C-220 with me. I am not sure what sources we are using as far as CD, TT, etc. but at least we can get other opinions on this debate. My thought is they are both excellent and it really depends on your listening preferences. Will check back in after the comparison and post the thoughts of this small group.

Our listening is a ritual brought on by many fond memories of how it was. Now we can afford to play with better equipment (not necessarily new) that we could not afford in our youth. What does the ipod generation aspire to? How many songs they can download so they can be self absorbed for who knows how long? Glad to see the manufacturers going back to what most of us here already know. Mass marketing is a necessity in ordr to stay in business but they also realize there are enough folks like us who are out there and willing to buy more than convenience.

I assume you folks who are using the "IMG" code are inserting the code directly into psot as opposed to trying to add it as an attachment. I am no expert on any of this and my assumptions may be incorrect as the first time someone told me to copy and paste I had NO idea what the heck they were talking about. If you are trying to post from your picture manager, I guess you just click on the Insert/Edit image thingy above that is the second icon to the left of the Smiley. As I mentioned before, I use www.photobucket.com which allows you to upload your images in any size that is necessary or better yet, use the IMG code which allows you to post directly into the actual reply without having to attach anything! If I have not been clear, my apologies as I am not the best at explaining anything about computers other than by trial and error.

Hi Scott, Just lurking on the forum and saw this post so I figured a helping hand may be in order. Actually, the Scout was sent to me by mistake and Harry (VPI's owner) is sending out a Scoutmaster for me to try. I just happened to pick up the Linn LP-12 yesterday in trade on a MR-74. I have 2 so one needed to go and it all appears in excellent overall condition. He is bringing me a Goldring cart also. We'll compare and see which one sounds better. Hoping all is well! B

If there is a picture above, I did it very simply by loading the pic to photobucket. It's free to use and all you do is upload your picture(s), then click the boxes you wish to post and the scroll to the bottom of the page. At the bottom on the right, there is a "Generate HTML nd IMG Code" button. Click it and it will take you to another page with options. They recommend Thumnails but you may just want to use the Regular IMG code and the copy it. Go to the forum and paste and you are ready to go. A couple of things you want to do when setting it up is to make sure you set up the proper image size. I use the 15" size for most postings but you can change it for posting or downsizing pics for Avatars. I am editing this post to mention that the picture above can be made larger by clicking on it and expanded again by scrolling the mouse over the loer right corner if you need it to be larger. The tuner should be good as it is based on the same circuitry as the highly regarded 20B tuner. Not sure about the rest of the electronics but yes, the scope is really cool[]

Thanks Pete and Jay, I have not gone anywhere just have not been posting much. My question is probably a tough one to answer as quite a few 18's seem to be around but not much info out there on the Model 19. I just thought it was such a beautiful piece that I had to check it out.. It comes in original boxes too so I figured even if it was not for me, there are many collectors who would be more than happy to have it in their collection. It was produced in 1972 and one of the last pieces still built in the US. Apparently, one of Saul Marantz' last pieces that he actually had a hand in designing. I am not a Marantz specialist so if I am mistaken, any further info is appreciated.
