  1. Im dying on the inside waiting for my Rf-82's [:'(]
  2. The Ear: I had to save that picture to my gallery! very nice indeed! are they sunfire subs? I always thought they were supposed to be compact [] Wheelman: I can highly recomend a DIY project. Nothing gives you greater satisfaction than building your own gear! generally speaking the diy route yeilds better price/performance results though the speaker enclosure usually end up much bigger than a store brought counter part.
  3. keLa The older klipsch RW series subwoofers with the front corner port can be used in a corner. But just like The Ear said it wont sound as good as it can ( not to say it wont still sound decent ) when I had me RW-12 I had it in the corner about 8-inches away from both walls. I found the positioning to be a good comprimise.
  4. oops my bad I wrongly interpreted the question. To me it sounded like he wanted to go louder and not harm the speakers (and if that was the case I stick by my last post) although I agree that 100WRMS of power into most Klipsch speakers is a tad bit harsh, I always have this much power and then some ( because I find that 99% of the time if you have a huge amp and only run it 1/4 power or so it makes the speakers sound alot more "together" and sharp at loud levels, but this is just me [])
  5. The same problem always happens with me and my 2 RF-15's. It always sounds as if the sound is slightly to much to the right speaker (off balance) but I know this is not my speakers or amplifier, because I KNOW im crazzzzy
  6. If its not to far out of your way budget wise shoot for the rsw15! I meen if its not to much of a hassle money wise whats there to lose? A larger sub doesnt have to move as much to produce the same SPL as a smaller sub so with the decision between the rsw-12 and rsw-15 the 15 in my books wins out in depth, sound level and clarity at higher volumes.
  7. Lol! depends if you got more than 22Khz high.........heheheheh
  8. Dr Who: Sure! If someone was willing to surrender a design of theirs I would surely build it. I have all the needed equiptment at school to test the amplifier and could post results. PS: No I am not entirely set on on building a tube amp and am always up for suggestions. I just thought I might want to change my mode of thinking because I built a solid state amplifier this year. SET: That sounds awsome! I wish you were in my class [] I have one good speaker mate at school (Nick sig whom posted above) who I am trying to always con into buying a set of klipsch speakers (Nick if your reading this you know you wanna []) but a tube amplifier touting qualified electrician would be good to have in my class as well [] Ben: That is actually a pretty good idea! Are you talking about a motorised volume knob like as seen on the Jaycar 350W subwoofer plate amp? (the knobs for the front of the sub) Thanks for the insight and sorry on the slow reply.... had to work [:'(]
  9. How high up on in the frequency spectrum can you hear? download http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/samplesViewSingle.php?id=20680 or use your own frequency sweep to see how high you can hear. I wanna see frequency numbers, ages and stories on how you may have damaged your hearing. I am 17 and can hear up to 18khz and a little bit past that (just can hear 19khz)I am very suprised I can hear that high as I constantly listen to music over safe listening levels (not hurt your ears loud, but still loud) Looking forward to hearing how you all go! PS: my step mum can hear up to 17khz (age 49) and my dad can hear 14khz (again age 49)
  10. there is no such thing as to much power as long as you dont overdrive your speakers. better to have the headroom than not have it. I can still remember a forum member (cant quite recal whom) always made sure his amplifier could deliver 10db more than he listened to! so if he listened to his set-up using on average 100WRMS he would use an amplifier with the capabilities of over 800WMRS!!! lol I am getting a pair of RF-82's but will be powering them with a pair of 200WRMS monoblock power amps, which is although modest compared to 800W it will do the job for me. Maybe you could lend a higher powered amplifier to see if you think its worth buying?
  11. hey nick! good to see ya [] I will end up implementing some kind of whacked out mechanical side to the amplifiers bulk. the question is what??? probably a sliding window to hide the display. for the photonics side a display and IR remote will be made. ( mixing old school with new tech )
  12. I got three that share my first and last [H]
  13. you can also move your sub closer / further away from the corner to "fine tune" the sound. the closer it is the more room gain you will get, and the further away the more "natural" it will sound. you should be able to reach a nice balance of output and none obtrusive sound. this to me is the goal to shoot for anyway.
  14. I usually find the best crossover point from your mains to the sub is usually around an octave above the main speakers -3db point so in your case a crossover of around 80hz might work well. remember this is not always 100% accurate though due to different crossover slopes, frequency dips etc, but may be worth a try to get the best intergration.
  15. rofl "Well appariently on Ebay I bid on 2 turntables" hehehehe i love it [<)]
  16. I did think building another amplifier for a school project (this year it was 2 big solid states) would get me poor marks and a not so happy teacher, after running the idea past him he thought it was a great idea that was very different and would require a new learning perspective. I think he also thinks its a good idea because he would learn something as well, because he knows about as much about valve theory as me [] I am also somewhat a teachers pet in electronics as this year whilst building my amplifier , others in the class built ipod chargers, electronic dice and a led light with switch []
  17. being a begginer to tubes, can anyone please give my a couple of recommendations for tubes that would suit my application? Would be very much appreciated! I have heard good things about the 12AX7?
  18. Thanks Eric, will look into it now []
  19. Thank you all for your responses! exactly what i was after! lots of very useful information and ideas ( especially the seth PP2A3 for which the document was a great read) just to clarify I can spend around AUS$1200 on parts for the amplifier. And no the amplifier does not have to be of my design, but if I do use someone elses design I still have to write around six-thousands words on it for the design folio, so i would still have to learn how everything works! Thanks everyone, keep the suggestions coming! Brendan,
  20. Hey all, just yesterday before school let out my systems and technology teacher told us that next year ( year 12) our class will be building individual projects, and have the whole year to build them! also since the holidays have just started I have about eight weeks to study the theory I need to know on the particular project I choose. So since I have a pair of RF-82's slowly on the way (supermarket wages suck) I would love to get into building a tube amplifier to use in conjunction with the RF-82's for listening to slow rock etc, instead of using the rather large pair of mono block amplifiers that I have. So this brings me to my question...... Has anyone had any experience in the area of valves? building valve amplifiers, valve theory etc. I am very much open to suggestions to which valves etc I should use in the design and would very much appreciate any references to usefull information on the web. I have basic skills in electronics having built lots of IR remotes, many small electronic "projects" and my two Studio 350 mono block amplifiers with matching power supply. Look forward to hearing from you all! Brendan,
  21. The high frequencies start to sound very strained and airy, like they are being forced out of the speaker. Suprisingly I dont experience huge distortion so much, but basically for lack of better describing words it sounds like the 15's are about to break.....and im no fan of abusing speakers. The midrange also losses alot of fine detail. all-in-all im not saying that i need louder speakers (although that would be a big plus) but really just speakers that will sound a little bit more "together" at high volumes. ( speakers of course be klipsch) Regards, Brendan PS: on the HK i run the bass at about plus 3db and treble at 0db
