  1. I get a little confused sometimes with all the different models. i have the synergy III S-3. sorry for any confusion.
  2. thanks for the reply. I'll check out those brackets. the SS-3's that i have only got 1 keyhole in each speaker. this is why i didn't want to hang them on the wall. got kids and all , one likes to dance in her room and tends to bump the wall a lot. the other likes to shut doors a little too hard sometimes. the side wall isn't an option as my room is actually 2 rooms with the living room only having 3 walls. the back wall will do fine i believe. thats where i had my previous speakers but they were small cubes that fit on adjustable stands. as you know the S-3's are large speakers ,they cant be discreetly placed. i have been struggling to find a solution to securing and placement dilemma for a few months now, checking on-line for brackets and such with no success. thats why they've been on the mantle, which is on the back wall. i know they will sound much better placed further apart. just not sure how i want to do it. I've thought of wall mounted shelves or floor standing shelves. but thought I'd check on here and see how others have done it first. any other ideas from other forum members?
  3. I've had the klipsch S-3 rear surrounds sitting on my mantle for awhile now about 4 feet high to bottom of speaker and only 2 feet apart. this is not optimal and not satisfying to me. the owners manual recommends placement on a side wall. this is not possible Alternate placement is on the back wall- possible -but i don't like the idea of just hanging them on the wall with a single center nail/screw through the keyhole. the manual also recommends placement at 5 feet 7inches from the floor.-this is different than all my previous knowledge of surround speaker placement that puts them at about ear level when seated. anyone know why this is different for these speakers? so guess my question is how have other users of the S-3 dealt with placement of the speakers? Is there a wall mount bracket that fits them? is there a floor stand that works with them? please help with suggestions.
  4. Ian Gillan he was also awesome with Black Sabbath. though most critics and fans (and Ian himself)didn't care much for it i think Born Again is one of Sabbaths best, because of Gillan.
  5. Ooh, happens all the time. fools the wife more often that me though (she cant hear very good). phones ringing. doors shutting, dogs barking. the strangest one for me is while i am listening to iron maiden piece of mind CD (Kind of loud as always) i swore i heard a voice come out of our two way monitored alarm system speaker. i play that same passage over and over and every time i hear the same thing seemingly emanating from the same place. i swear it says "is everything alright".
  6. from that site The threads are available in 1/4-20 (standard) and custom threads of M6, 5/16, M8, 3/8, and 1/2". Please see the Speaker Thread Sizes by Manufacturer page to find the thread size for your speakers. If your speaker does not have an insert already installed, no problem. Each standard 1/4-20 spike comes with a 1/4-20 stud and threaded insert. The threaded insert can easily be screwed into a 9 mm pre-drilled hole with an M6 or 7/32 Allen wrench. No need for this insert if your speakers already have inserts installed. Be sure to order the 1/4-20 (standard) to include the 1/4-20 stud and insert. their thread size page says klipsch is a M6. and doesn't specify any particular model numbers. implying that all klipsch are already threaded M6. anyone know for sure?
  7. sound like a hush hush issue that NAD is prepared to repair as the problem presents itself. but if no one complains then there is no problem.....right. I'd take it and have it serviced before the warranty is up.
  8. Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind. recently got the enhanced disk. (so much better than cassette) i believe it has everything you desire.
  9. that doesn't sound too irritating. i understand your desire to remedy the situation though. wish i could help but i have zero experience with nad and therefor do not know if this is a common effect from their amps or something particular to you system. i have not heard that complaint about nad from anyone else in any forum. have you tried posting to the technical chapter of this forum?
  10. ntwaddel- found this on a sellers site The threads are available in 1/4-20 (standard) and custom threads of M6, 5/16, M8, 3/8, and 1/2". Be sure to order the 1/4-20 (standard) to include the 1/4-20 stud and insert. their thread size page says klipsch is a M6. which implies that they are already tapped and threaded. however, i have not turned mine over to see if the F-3 is tapped under the foot, i believe there is a rubber pad.
  11. dragonfyr - exactly. there are alot of gimmicks around that are supposed to provide improvements but are not accompanied by any supportive data. It leaves one to purchase then experiment to determine if there is any audible justification for the implementation of these devices. every gimmick has its followers who believe these products provide drastic improvements. of course my question was a probe to get a general consensus concerning spikes on this forum from individuals who have used them. understanding that those replies would most likely be subjective.
  12. michael- your new avatar is much more pleasing to the eye than your other one.
  13. how is it possible to "sounds phenominal, no doubt about that" when experiencing a "whining noise , drove me crazy" ?
  14. do i buy the 60 Inch HDTV first , or the receiver? I'd buy the receiver. unless you have no TV at all. personally I'm waiting for the technology to stabilize some in HDTV's. too many issues plaguing all HDTV formats. just my opinion. it's entirely up to you and your wallet.
  15. yep i think you pretty much explained what i thought i was experiencing with the SF-3's. never noticed it with any other speaker I've had. the sf-3 definitely have a volume that sounds best to me , in my sitting position, in my room. there is a point in the volume where the singers voice is more pronounced and all the instruments sound the way they should. this is of course different depending on the recording. the f-3 decidedly sounds better at higher volumes.
  16. Spkrdctr - yep they sound fine to me with a sub woofer. but you know spikes aren't that expensive and if i could gain even higher quality sound by installing them i will. but i don't want to waste money on them for no improvement at all.
  17. wuzzer- thats exactly what all the web sites that sell speaker spikes say as a benefit to using them. i really didn't want to spend the money to purchase them without hearing from someone who has used them. the SF-3 are fairly heavy and have 4 little feet that are positioned to the outside of the cabinet giving them a slightly wider footprint (i suppose for stabilization against tipping). i didn't know if the F-3 would have the same benefit considering this and that the drivers are mounted so high in the cabinet and the port is at the floor.
  18. I drive an '88 chevy silverado left to me by my decased father- only has 56K miles on it i also have a 57 chevy 3100 PU. 350corvette motor built, camero front suspension, corvette rear (4 wheel independant suspension) possi traction
  19. greg928s4 - try butterscotch schnapps. the wife loves it
  20. Tequila - gotta have the worm! don't see corn liquor on the list....you know moon shine, white lightning[li]
  21. my cat likes to try and catch the air coming out of the sub port when its on. and immediately after turning it off it has to probe with one paw and sniff the hole to see what was doing it. he doesn't climb on top of my F-3's but beside one is his favorite snoozing spot. he does like to try and scratch at the grills , to no avail , thank goodness he has no claws.
  22. if a speaker is rated at 97db, is 97db the point at which the speaker is designed to perform best?
  23. not sure if I'm posting to the correct place or not but here goes. are there any advantages , sound wise, to using speaker spikes on synergy F-3's.? are there any disadvantages? aside from holes in the carpet.
  24. , your Denon probably has clipping protection and will just turn itself off if it detects any form of clipping - it's a cool feature but it's better not to depend on it manual says it has a protector circuit that is activated if played at high volumes for long periods with speakers with lower impedance than recommended.(recommended 6 to 16ohms) , driving an amp into clipping can also break the amp as well i actually ended up purchasing the F-3's as a result of this ,i believe. i was drunk and listening to 5 channel stereo really loudly while on the deck. the receiver shut off and i assumed the cat had loosened a wire or something. i checked the wiring then powered up the system(stupid cat ....not), i didn't notice any thing strange about the sound .so i crunk it up an went back outside.(stupid me...yep) it shut off again. and this time wouldn't power back up. i thought speaker or wire connection. i left it alone until the next day. what i found was that 2 of the speakers ohmed out @ 0 resistance. but with them unplugged the receiver still wouldn't power up. to shorten the story the service tech said they had to replace a transformer in the receiver. some good actually came out of this..1. i learned a very important lesson. 2.i ended up buying the F-3's 3. since they couldn't replace the speakers (said no longer available) under the service contract they gave me a voucher to get a new home theater in a box and i still got to keep the Denon receiver that they had repaired. but they no longer carried Denon and the closest thing to allowable price range was a JVC system. know anyone looking to purchase a JVC THC-7? does your receiver have pre-outs? the Denon only has sub pre-out
  25. nothing wrong with good, un-abused, used equipment. but i know where he's coming from. new house, new neighbors, new friends. gotta have new toys. been there, done that. it'll wear off some, eventually. there is some mental satisfaction to having something new even if you could have gotten something better at half the cost.
