  1. Thanks Greg, I did not remember that you tried both drivers. www.usspeaker.com caries BMS drivers. They do not list the 4591 or the 4592ND-MID on their web site. It may be worth contacting them to see if they can get either of these two drivers.
  2. Randy, Consider the BMS 4591 driver also. It's much cheaper. It has a smoother response curve. Although, I have never seen any direct comparison between the two drivers. I have the 4591 and think it is great on Greg's horns. It is a lot larger but, it will fit just fine.
  3. I use the Jabo K55A round horn. I'm thinking of switching to Greg's tractrix.
  4. Beautiful horn Greg! I've been using the BMS 4591 driver for a few years. I let it roll of naturally on the top end and cross the tweeter at 7000 Hz with a second order Butterworth filter. I have not measured it but, it sounds very good there. I tried 6500 and 7500 before settling on 7000. The response curve for the BMS 4592-MID looks nearly identical to the 4591.
  5. There are several two inch drivers that will get low enough if used in a three way system. JBL 2440 JBL 2441 JBL 2482 BMS 4591 If you want to go that low as a (sort of) two way system in a 2 inch driver, try the BMS 4592. It's actually a coaxial design and requires an external crossover to go from the mid to high.
  6. What is the crossover point for the 510 horn with K69? Will it go down to 400Hz?
  7. I'm confused about crossing the woofer to the squawker. Both the Super AA by Dean and the ALK Universal use a first order crossover for the woofer to squawker. The Super AA uses a 2.5 mHy coil for the woofer and a 40 uF cap for the squawker. The ALK uses a 1.3 mHy coil and 48 uF cap. On paper, they both can't be right. I'm sure there's a rational explanation but, I don't know what it is. Can anyone explain? Thanks
  8. freddyi, I think the thread you are looking for is this one.... http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=12697&highlight=selsted I was reading it myself over the last few weeks and thinking of building my own set of Smith's for a tweeter.
  9. I'm curious if anyone has any experience with this alternative round tractrix horn.... http://cgi.ebay.com/Spheric-Wave-Tractrix-Horn-1-400-Hz_W0QQitemZ9718926801QQihZ008QQcategoryZ14980QQcmdZViewItem
  10. What does it mean? What is it about Marantz that doesn't like a low impedance load, more than any other S.S. amp?
  11. The Marantz 2275 is rated at 75 watts per channel, I think. That kind of power will certainly drive most any speaker, let alone the 102 dB efficient RF-7. Should sound great. I have a 2230 that sure sounds good with Cornwalls. Crank it up and enjoy.
  12. The truck probably sounds better. Look at all those tubes in back. Must be push pull. []
  13. Bluesboy, I didn't get the PM. I tried sending you both PM and email. You can contact me also at dm.rains@sbcglobal.net Thanks
  14. Very good to hear Bluesboy. Could you send me a PM to work out the details? Thanks
  15. Stunning! Love the Padauk. Bluesboy, would you consider making those top hat sections available to others? I have 511b horns with JBL 2404's.
  16. Free...no way. Cost of the cabinets..........................................$86 Thanks Speakerfritz Tank of gas for pickup......................................$35 CW1526 woofers, (delivered to my door)......$150 Thanks DizRotus (Neil) Total cost for bass bins....................................$271 Pleasure I'm getting listening to them.............PRICELESS I have to build new grill cloth frames for the sides as the originals were busted up. The cabinets are "5 footers". From that distance they look great, any closer and you can spot their warts. Networks are ALK Jr's, built by me, with an additional -1.4dB reduction on the JBL 2404 tweeters. Sounding oh so great.
  17. I had 806-8A's running with 511b horns in a three way setup using Cornwalls as the woofer. I was very pleased with it. I then switched to 902's, thinking of going two way. So far, I am still running three way. I can't say that I noticed much difference going from the 806 to the 902 drivers using crossover frequencies of 600 and 6000 Hz. There must be something wrong with them. I also suggest contacting Bill at GPA.
  18. To be precise, it's 4 and 51/64, or 122 mm. At least that's what it says here..... http://www.jblpro.com/pages/pub/components/2404.pdf
  19. I'm the lucky forum member that will be picking up the cabinets. Thanks to a recent divorce, my significant others are my dog and cat. The ex never did understand audio compulsion, but that's another story. DizRotus, I'm interested in the woofers. And, we're practically neighbors. I'll send a PM. If I put together a Speakerlab Khorn bass bin, Crites woofers, Altec mid horn and driver, and JBL tweeters; am I still allowed in the Klipsch forum? It's certainly Klipsch in spirit.
  20. This link from the Lansing Heritage site may be what you are looking for... http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=11977&highlight=loading+cap
  21. My understanding is that the T has the loading cap installed on the rear cover cap to limit diaphragm excursion which increases power handling. The loading cap is removable. For hifi use, most remove the loading cap.
  22. I also built a set of "DeanG inspired" networks for my Cornwalls. They sound wonderful to my ears and very well balanced. My Corns are placed in the corners of my listening room and toed in slightly. That probably yields some bass reinforcement. I've since added an Altec 511 horn with a 902 driver. I didn't feel any need to modify the network for that change. I'm now ready to add JBL 2404 tweeters. I expect I may need to pad them down a bit. I now refer to them as "FrankenCorns". Great thing about these mods is they are all easily reversible back to the original Cornwalls. Great work on the network design Dean. And thanks to Chops and others for all of the threads on Altec and JBL mods.
  23. Have you checked out the "Updates and Modifications" section of the forum? There are several recent threads on DIY Khorns. Lots of construction pictures. Great stuff.
  24. Aside from the frame rigidity benefit, is there an advantage to increasing the woofer crossover frequency on a Cornwall? What would be ideal?
  25. Try http://www.vtr.org/TR3/index.shtml. Vintage Triumph Register. They have a classified section. I had a TR6 for a few years. Lots of fun, but mechanically a POS car.
