  1. Enjoy guys and Merry Christmas!
  2. Burning in my new quad of 12AX7s this morning in the HK A500 I bought from Andy up in Mass. Playing instrumental Christmas music at a rather spirited volume[] Will raise a glass to the Redfire Grill tonight and to my forum buds here at our own little virtual bar. Merry Christmas! Tarheel
  3. Of course not Stew[] Having a glass of Merlot. One more work day and then four days off. Will be here with the wife Christmas day with the traditional holiday meal. Dinner with friends Cristmas eve after an afternoon at bluesboy's place watching a new DVD. Life in the slow lane.....but a good time. Cheers gents!
  4. JJ....ordered then from tubedepot.com. I have also been pleased with dougstubes.com and thetubestore.com. $16.95 for the 12ax7s per tube plus $2.00 for matching.
  5. Thanks Larry. You and Artto are correct I think and your rule of thumb works for me. Just now ordered a new quad of 12ax7s for the front end. Gold pin Electro Harmonix. Phono section had a Peavey in place which I switched out for a Telefunken.
  6. Hang in there GL51...it will be over soon. You and BigStew do have it rough. What is gluhwein?
  7. Thanks for the reply guys. I was hoping that would be the reply artto and that there is not something wrong with both amps. Makes sense. One unit is the HK A500 and the other is a HK FA 3 Award Series (still available in kit form). I don't have manuals for either.
  8. I have two different Harmon Kardon units from the early 60s....one receiver and one integrated amp. Each has a Hi-Lo phono connection. Using the "Hi" I get very little volume while the "Lo" is much louder. I am using a moving magnet Clearaudio virtuoso wood cartridge. Is "Lo" the proper setting or do I need a step up gizmo? If I need to step it up to use the "Hi" setting should I expect better sound?
  9. Cold and windy here. Fixed a large pot of chili and let it simmer for a couple of hours. Grated some cheese and added a scoop of sour cream in a bowl. Chased it down with a cold Modelo. Its good to be able to cook in the new kitchen. The Heels lost to number two Texas....Rick Barne's team. Never have liked that guy after he bumped Dean Smith when Barnes was at Clemson. Gonna hook up the HK A500 tommorow and give it a workout. With three amps its hard to give them the attention they deserve. If anyone knows about Niles switches and can tell me how to hook up three amps to the same set of speakers please let me know. Bought half my Christmas presents today.....only have to buy for one. Got snow JB? Cheers to all!
  10. I have baby cheeks as well as the 511B horn in a top hat I designed and bluesboy produced. See my avatar for a glimpse.
  11. Well its about time we got someone here with some enthusiasm! What music do you like?
  12. Can you hook the speakers up and try them out prior to making your decision? I think surrounds are made of better material these days and do not deteriorate as quickly as my 37 year old McIntosh ML-1Cs did[] BTW....welcome to the forum mabcim! Try to post more often.
  13. Welcome aboard Backdoor[] Don't be a stranger!
  14. A glass of Argentine Syrah. Wife is fixing veal marsala and fresh asparagus for dinner. A second glass of Syrah should go well with the veal. Got Ben's CDs off yesterday......nothing special so don't over expect.....just thinning out the collection. Cheers gentlemen!
  15. three fingers of Jack Black on the rocks. Kitchen project complete except for the shoe molding. Looking for heart pine to match the floor or cherry to match the cabinets. Where is winchester, Ace and JB? Put together a box of CDs for Ben. Will mail monday. Cheers gentlemen!
  16. Always good to have our forum buds from the colder climes here at the bar. Stew.....you have it made. Cold and rainy here this weekend.
  17. Been quiet at the bar. Where are all the regulars? Ace, JB, Winchester, Stew, Ben? I'll have a glass with you GL51. Cheers gentlemen!
  18. The Heels stunk first half and were lucky to only lose by two to 5th ranked Kentucky[:'(] Went to a friends open house/Christmas party for about an hour.....wife was not up to it so I had a couple of glasses of cab and left. Thanks Winchester....the wife is a fighter and much tougher than I could ever be. She keeps such an upbeat attitude in spite of the health challenges she has faced. It was a rainy....rainy day here but has since cleared and is turning cold. It should be sunny sunday and a little cool. Good luck to the Panthers. Better luck next time to the Heels. Ace....how did the Bears fair? Cheers to all!
  19. Had a thought while cleaning the laptop this morning. Would the can compressed air used for dust removal blow gunk off of a stylus? My Zerodust works great but the compressed air for $7 a can seems like a good solution. Any thoughts or concerns?
  20. You're just trying to cheer me up JJ[]
  21. Good for you!!! I´ll have another Bacardi Coke for you (it´s 17:30 here)!! Good to see new faces at the bar. Ace....good deal on the tax reduction[Y] The kitchen saga continues here. The guy installing the range hood stood on the new granite counter top and cracked it in two places. The new tile work above the granite will have to be cut out for the new counter to be installed. I was so out of shape it took 2 Tylenol pm tabs to get to sleep. I'm getting to old for this. Friday night and the bar is open. Cheers gentlemen[D]
  22. Ace....we need to fill that basement up the rest of the way and stock it with fish[] Anybody see my Heels kick butt last night? If they had a three point shooter no telling how far they could go in this rebuilding year. Winchester....wife is improving. Thanks for asking. Work is hectic doing my job and a downsized colleague's job.....but no complaints.....I am working! Just waiting for the worm to turn. The kitchen will be done by this weekend. Glad for that. Ben...haven't forgotten your CDs....maybe make it a Christmas present. Cheers guys!
  23. A beautiful day here in the Port City. Mowed the lawn for the last time this year. Sitting on the patio with three fingers of Jack Daniels Black label. Yep...the Heels lost a close one and the Panthers lost as well. Waiting to hear about Tiger's weekend[^o)] The kitchen makeover is a week to ten days from being complete and looking good. On a whim I checked the cabinet opening for the Viking cooktop and it is 3/8 inch too narrow! I guess the side walls will have to be cut out. They also hooked the faucett up backwards. Whats the old saying.....hot on the left...cold on the right....#### doesn't flow up hill and payday is on friday. I will not be sorry to see all the trades leave so that life can return to normal. But did I mention it was a beautiful day here? Cheers gentlemen.
  24. Dinner out at a restaurant near Wrightsville Beach. An overcooked steak[:@] but a fine cabernet from Argentina[] Wife's veal was also overcooked. The wait staff offered free desert but we cut our losses and called it an early night.
