  1. I believe I sent Marty one classical tape recorded at 3 3/4 (not by me) and the rest were blanks or recorded at 7 1/2. Marty emailed me that the classical tape played okay but the rest were real slow. I ventured a guess that the deck was not operating properly at the higher speed[^o)] I don't know how the speed change occurs on that deck so I don't know where to look. Any help guys?
  2. Welcome to the forum Keithki and thanks for your comments. Don't be a stranger.
  3. Good post J. I saw Mapleshade's steamer about a week ago in their latest catalog and apparently they have tested the steamer with no ill effects. Pierre raves about everything so it was good to get your thoughts on steaming even on a different product. Keep us posted.
  4. I have a few recorded and blank 7" reels you can have. No need to return....I use mostly 10" reels. PM me your address if you want them.
  5. Great pictures.....glad Amy fixed them...tried to look at them yesterday but at my age and did'nt know if I had the time for them to load. A real tough little guy and disciplined to boot. I know you're proud.
  6. Connect the output terminals on the tape deck to the "tape in" or "tape monitor" on your amp/preamp. Conect the "line out" "record out" or "tape out" terminals on your amplifier to the "line in" terminals on the tape deck. These are general guidelines as I am not familiar with your Roberts. The little lever directly over the red button is a tension arm and takes up slack in the tape and stabilizes the tape. Gently move the tape reel forward till the tape pulls the arm to the top of the arc. You have three tape speeds and the highest (7.5) will make the best quality tape. If you get the deck running tape and the tape slips off the rubber on the pinch roller you can remove the roller and rough it up with 220 qrit sand paper. When the rubber gets old or worn it usually gets slick causing the tape to wander. Use the volume control knobs on your deck to adjust the volume coming in to the deck. The needle on the vu meter should barely go into the red area on the loudest passages. A tubed reel to reel at that price could be a real bargain if it operates properly. Good luck.
  7. Anne Murray.....really? Thought he was a rock and roller!
  8. Did someone give oldbuckster the day off?
  9. Okay.....I have had my third listening this afternoon and it is growing on me. Its just that I have heard other unusal pairings that I liked immediately and this one is taking some warming up to. John Lee Hooker and Bonnie Raitt and Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle come to mind. Nothing wrong with this cd at all...just not what I anticipated....
  10. Less than half price....probably the best audio deal of the year....wow!
  11. GRB......My opinion as well. Must say I was a little dissappointed. I think I would use the same words "dark and unmoving". I bought all the cds mentioned in the thread "Best releases for 2007" and frankly haven't heard anything that has overwhelmed me. Springsteen's Magical, two by Eva Cassidy, Raising Sand and Fogerty's Revival. Fogerty's offering was my favorite and Eva's voice is special but nothing seemed inspired. I may just be in one of those moods where nothing satisfies. "nothing satisfies" was that a Stones tune? I do agree with the comments about Amazon. Why does it take so long to mail a cd?
  12. Good point. Jitters about oil prices and subprime issues represent a strong headwind but a crash...don't know. Sure hope not...too close to retirement years. Some hedging may be in order. Now its off to dinner.
  13. Care to elaborate Mark? I may be missing your point.
  14. Thanks for the concern guys. Seems the concensus is to sell.....market was down 366 today and google hardly flinched.....I don't know...may be room to run yet. I rember 1987 and the tech bubble of 2000.....so I know the risk. What I am taking a beating on are my "safe" stocks....the money center banks...Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Washington Mutual....
  15. Thanks for that link Mark.....very interesting. If I had $6500 I would order one today. I do have that powerball ticket for Saturday night[^o)]
  16. I am on my second set of bluesboy's LS and believe me 1" mdf is the way to go. Bass is ample and I've never felt the need for a sub. My pair uses Beyma tweeters, 511 horns with 902 Altec drivers and ALK Engineering crossovers. Bluesboy does great work. Bluesboy may want to post a pic with the tweeter in the top hat. A rather nice look.
  17. Lets make that 21 years.....still no trick or treaters....and I have Otis the cat on the lookout for Midnight Rambler.
  18. I use stop orders and bump it up as the share price increases protecting most of my gains. Would'nt want to miss the next three hundred bucks due to nerves.
  19. Very nice bluesboy.......I would like to have a pair of those[]
  20. Have'nt had any trick or treaters in 20 years.....live too far back in the woods....but should they show up I'm handing out mint flavored dental floss and golf tees[:^)] I am dressing up as Speakerboy!
  21. Google stock finished a bit over $707 today......how high will it go and who bought in really early? I'll go first.....don't know to the first question and $260 to the second.
  22. OB.....happy birthday a day late. Heck you're catching up with me.....I'll be 59 in January ....should be 61 but I was sick for two years[]
  23. I can go there with you oldenough.....past weekend there was a audible change in my music system which I attribute to the new Tung Sol 12 AX7 tube in the phono section of the preamp finally getting burned in or either the stylus in the Clearaudio Virtuoso wood cartridge has reached its pinnacle. Either way......I listened to vinyl only for the weekend. Got some new cds from Amazon yesterday and was thinking how much I preferred the lps....tics, pops and all. BTW.....I own a decent tubed cdp.
  24. Scotch drinker here but sunday my neighbor invites me over for a drink and after a brief search announces "no scotch". Long story short he gives me a Makers Mark on little ice cubes. Bien![D]
