  1. isolated & compared to the 20s or 10s, the 30s middle name is punch. as in upper range of kick drum punch. not that the 10s or 20s don't have it - the 30s just have more of it. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  2. the ksw-12 & it's ideosyncratic hook-up/compatiability issues urggg... to hook it up both speaker level (out of your b jacks) & line level seems to provide good if not the best results for all the dif formats. because the inputs of the ksw are not internally summed, you get a db boost by hooking up both. u may as well hook up both line Inputs (R & L/lfe) usually done w/ a rca Y adapter cable.
  3. boy that's a good ? i'd be concerned whether the heresy could keep up with those rs-7. they being proclaimed as such loud killer surrounds & all... why not another pair of heresy for surrounds. looking more for the wdst speaks more for HT? ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  4. Big R, yes u need to step to the Promedia Tech section. this be home audio tech.
  5. thanks joe. thought i read that the bucking mags add about 1 db sensitivity but the cups taketh away by same for pretty much a wash. so putting on only the bucking mags would add to their loudness i figured. guess i can test further when the woofer magnets arrive.
  6. k, too bad u have ATT. they do i think suck compared to AOL TW. ATT needs $ too bad. yea i did check out audioreview & was amused by the reader reviews of speaker cable, including the MC MCX Biwire. i got that from J&R for $60 along with their bananas that Monster Lock for another 10. i'll be running the biwire vs. not test lab soon.
  7. yes ed it would be nice to control that low bass cut-off at the receiver level, which I believe some units can do. most units send all LFE to the sub outs just by selecting sub yes (which makes sense as LFE is a descrete channel & made for a subwoofer). i have heard a lot of low bass from my rear cornwalls, which put out pretty well down to 25hz. but lfe only goes to my sub as long as I choose sub:yes. i believe this is the way w/ most if not all receivers. many confuse lfe with low bass (the bass below the sub cut-off on all other channels but the LFE). denon recommends rear effects speakers at a 60 degree angle from the center listening position (on the back wall). like w/ the 5800 u could have 2 pair of side surrounds (A+ as well as the 2 rear effects speaks. u could even set the distance (delay) on each side surround seperately for some interesting panning effects I would imagine.
  8. wired, take a look at the Velodyne HGS-18 or there's always those new rsw subs due out in may, or jun, or... ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  9. so now bucking magnets degrade the sound qualities of a loudspeaker, after being told continuously by other audio experts that they do not effect (except for maybe adding db). what now, the reverse magnetism of the buck takes away the push-pull ability of the primary magnet? ;D i don't hear any dif at all after putting buck magnets on the tweet & mid horns. again that's just me though. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  10. they usually buy from authorized klipsch dealers. therefore, they should have warranty coverage thru that dealer & klipsch. whether the unauthorized dealer will give u this warranty coverage (or if they will be around tomorrow) is kinda a grey area.
  11. thanks k, but w/ that sony not having main preouts i've accepted i'm pretty screwed there. maybe when i get that new marantz sr8000 or denon i can at least hook the big ken to the sony 2nd room out jacks for stereo using the sony as the preamp. the rf-3 sound sweet connected to the big ken in the "stereo accuracy listening room". & hey, i'm looking for those monster biwire cables (the cheaper ones) online now. thought i'd try them w/ these rf-3 & the big ken & see if I hear a big dif. i'll keep u posted. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  12. k, could u move your like dvdp to optical connect then put your cable box on the coax connect? that's what i had to do then auto input mode takes care of rest. as for the cableco, if it's AOL TW they should be getting much better soon (merger just completed). also there will be a lot of cool uploading (2 way commun) features soon which u can't do w/ sat - f.e., being able to order about any movie to start anytime u want w/ a few clicks of your remote. magnets went pretty well. that is after filing out the tweeter holes on the klf-30s to get that bucking magnet attached tweet back in. now have ordered the big daddy woofer mags. 4X$20.
  13. hey ed, to get a lot of that non-directional bass to the sub(s) connected to the sub pre-outs, u would set those channels to small speakers. or are we talking something more complex? actually many systems now (f.e. the denon 5800) are using a 7-pack (or would that be a brewer's 1/2 dozen ), w/ 2 rear effects speaks. i'm leaning toward that w/ 2 more side surrounds for music only (a 10 pack w/ 1 big sub included). someday maybe... ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  14. hey keith, why not digital cable? boa
  15. yes mh I think u misunderstood me. all in all i said, in a nutshell & imho, the klf-30 have more slam, presence & better sound quality than the rf-3 at any volume level & whether listening to AC/DC or the 1812 Overture. but they cost about $1K(american) more. i wouldn't try claiming the klf-30 sound better than khorns which cost thousands more in the same regard. but don't let my opinion bias your hearing ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!

    DENON 3300

look for a lil button on your remote that says like "tv/video"
  18. yea shag, i basically started out w/ a pair of cornwalls. trouble is nowdays u need 4 or 5 speakers, kinda like when quad tried but failed in the early '70s. i was the only guy in town w/ a quad receiver but couldn't afford 4 speaks - think i had a mobile speaker & a drive-in speaker for the other 2. so a man's gotta have priorities. & the 1st priority should be the speakers. so you've come to the right place. just depends what u have & what u need...
  19. yea quent, bargained (now horned) got his klf-30 demos from a dealer for like $300/pr. nobody should have to pay over 1300/pair new right now, but maybe they'll start to get a scarcity premium. i was going to hold off for the new refs, but the legends match up better w/ the cornwalls anyway. now the 2nd system is the ref w/ possible ref upgrades ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  20. ok, i've spent some time listening to both the klf & the rf-3 & imo the klf has more presence at lower volume (like 1 watt). whether it's an additional $1k worth of presence is up to the listener. & it is for this one - i'll keep the rf-3 in the smaller room. remember, all I ever said was the spike/foot thing. m.h. asked my opinion. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  21. quent, so a pair would be $549 on sale, not 2 bad if so, shows those dealers do get a 100% markup if they sell at msrp. if i see the klf-30 for less than 1k/pr, well i'll...got mine from the authorized dealer for $1290/pr. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  22. yea i just got the klf-30 for $1300 from an authorized local dealer. so in reality u should be looking at a price dif of $300. so is that $300 worth the extra slam?- pretty subjective i'd say. & yea like ttk says, u should have a nice receiver/amp w/ some more amperage to properly drive the 30's (let alone the 20s). ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  23. could someone explain again why the 20s have a lower freq response than the 30s & the 10s lower than the 20s. seems to defy logic - i always thought bigger drivers & bigger cabinets produce lower bass. guess all things else are not equal then. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  24. actually funny u should ask keith because right now i'm filing the tweeter horn holes because the extra magnet on tweet horn won't allow it back in. guess klipsch should have sent a smaller magnet. well, the things we do for klipsch
  25. the buck magnets: tweet around 3" total diam w/ 1" hole & about 1/4" thick. mid is about 4" total w/ no hole & about 1/2" thick. believe both slope down slightly to outer edge. didn't get the woofs (yet). they'd run $20X4. wonder if u could put them on just 1 of the 2 woofs in each speaker(?) don't think i'd be comfortable w/ that though. definitely use the 90 sec. instant epoxy by super glue got from home depot. that metal epoxy takes a day to dry & it really smells.
