  1. i've heard like 80% (me included) can't hear any difference in phase at 0 or 180. if it doesn't sound tighter/fuller w/ your mains at either, I'd leave it at 0. i guess that sub has no auto turn on/off, so I'd turn it off if you're not going to use it again for a few hours or so. if it ain't broke, rock on ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  2. derek, i think that assumption is correct since it will be transmitted on digital channels it'll be like digital video on steroids w/ digital sound but not necessarily DD 5.1(AC-3) or DTS. like the led zepplin song remains the same dvd - digital picture but it's only in DD 2.0. i was referring though to the FCC yr2004 requirement (or whatever it is now - u know the gov ) that pertains only to hdtv video transmissions. hopefully they'll now require all digital sound transmissions to be in 5.1 or more
  3. i have cornwalls for rears & find angling (or toeing) them in @ 45 degrees from the rear corners works best. u may be actually looking for 7.1. if that's the case i'm sticking w/ my gut. get a 2nd pair of klf-20s for rears (they can be the same size as the mains like cbear has) & ksp-6 for surrounds. think that'd be a great sounding speaker set-up for both music & HT. & get something like a denon or marantz w/ the multi-channel stereo mode. do a search for 6.1 or 7.1 in this section & you'll get loads of opinions
  4. check your effect level on that sony. turning that up on the dsp modes really brings up the rears. also, the center u have is imo not loud enough for the lascala (not a good match). but as wj says, the avia disk & good meter sure wouldn't hurt. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  5. derek, i think you're thinking of hdtv broadcasts. that relates only to video, & to truely enjoy that u need an hd monitor. digital video looks much better on any old tv (well within reason anyway).
  6. oh & as bobg referenced, i think the ksw rolls off at least initially at 12db/octave. so the problem (though not a biggy) is you're getting dueling filters. does your denon have sub out crossover controls of it's own? i know some of the denon models do. also, if u haven't already, u may want to experiment w/ the bass output setting (like sub only).
  7. i think about all lfe is below 80hz but u could be missing some w/ the sub cross set to 80 or lower. so i've found it best to switch out the sub cross (or in your case turn it up) for HT & switch it in (turn it down) for music. of course for music it blends better w/ the fronts set to large for me. wonder if the new rsw will have a crossover in/out switch? all newer subs for use using the sub preouts on a/v receivers should. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!

  9. yea t-man I get the same for my vel on music cds. fortunately I have a crossover out switch. i switch it out for HT dvds as then the only thing sent to the sub is LFE. for music though it sounds better w/ the cross in & set to 80hz or lower. nature of the beast as I guess it rolls off (not totally cuts off) at 80hz & u get that muddy/boomy sound above that point on music. so for the best sound sorry but u probably need to turn the cross way up for HT/dvd & down for music/cds. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  10. yes a Y should be a big improvement as w/ a ksw because I think the 2 line inputs are not internally summed. if not, the LF-10 could be defective. but try the Y.
  11. hey yc. i was thinking the rf-3 bottom woof had more lower bass output while the upper had more midrange, but it's i guess just an illusion - when I put my ear down there of course the high horn is blasting my ear closer to the upper woof bobg, i started thinking after I asked about the rc-7 that it was a dumb question because it sounds like the rc-7, rf-7 & rf-5 will all have the same new 8" horn. so wouldn't the 5 horn still match well w/ the rc-7 horn. maybe not - if u say so I won't spend the extra $ for an rc-7 maybe i can even squeeze in a rf-7 to solve the problem anxious to see the new dimensions & get out the tape measurer.
  12. your fronts klf-20? presume u would have a c-7 for center? anyway, the 20s rear & 6s side would i think sound much better than f.e. 4-6s for both rears & sides. especially if for music u have a 5 (or more) channel stereo mode on your receiver. but for HT use also, the 20-6 combo would i think be ideal for all worlds. denon or marantz make great units for klipsch use & can have that stereo feature for music. depends a lot how u want to use it though. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  13. i have time warner digital cable & certain movie channels do put out 5.1 but the only time i ever got DD 5.1 was on the starz channel - civil action when I was getting a free promotion preview for 3 days. don't ever see it mentioned on the tv guide though. just see it on the receiver display. hopefully more broadcasts & publication to come... ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!

    Subs

how is your ksw connected to the sony? i have the str-de935 w/ the sub connected to the sub outs. i don't use the crossover on the sub as the sub outs are already filtered low pass @ 80hz. i think the 945 has the same bass mgmt as mine. in that case definitely set the fronts to large & use the sub out w/ a Y-connect to your ksw. then the sony sends low bass to both the sub & fronts for music (cds). for a dvd w/ lfe, it sends that only to the sub (w/ sub-yes, it will not send it to the fronts even if set to large - these sony have no front+sub or both bass output settings like the denons & such (which sucks)). so for movie dvds u may try turning up the ksw's crossover above the 80 hz cut-off point (or like all the way to 120). for music it may sound better turned down some to like 80hz or lower to better blend w/ your fronts set to large. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  15. yea after 1st hearing them i told the salesman that i would find a way to own these speakers. w/ unemployment at 11% in '83 but being a college grad w/ my 1st job paying a whopping 12k/yr I discovered the wonderful world of visa. credit line $1500. klipsch cornwalls $1150. even had enough left for some wire. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  16. why 2? 1 should be fine. then get a 7.1 receiver & use the other for a rear center
  17. thanks bobg! if the rf-5 isn't more than 1" wider i could definitely squeeze that in. would the new rc-7 be a good match w/ the rf-5 or would I want to keep my rc-3? iwo, is the rc-7 really just for use w/ the rf-7? also, maybe it's just me, but i could swear that the rf-3 bottom woof puts out more lower bass while the upper woof seems to put out more midrange. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  18. sorry keep thinking here, but also, if you're not already doing w/ the digital box, u may want to use line rca connections to the vcr & then to tv. for audio, i also use a digital coax connection from the box digital out to the receiver dig coax in (which of course only works on the digital channels). these boxes open up a whole new world of connection options - have fun ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  19. toots, lol. that's what I was thinking. great movie line. do the mondial amps go to 11?
  20. another thing to look for is that they only have 1 splitter & it's a 1000mhz.
  21. ideally in a corner on the same plane as your mains ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  22. my '84 cornwall I manual says the corn uses the same mid & high drivers as the khorn. says the khorn & lascala use the same bass driver, but the khorn's is trihedral requiring corner placement while the lascala's is folded only twice not requiring corner placement. so reading this you'd think the corn uses a different woof, though they're probably talking of the cabinet design. now could someone explain folding?
  23. so jc, then were yours the 901st & 902nd made that week? ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
