  1. Jeff - I would like to see you go buy an new HK receiver and test it. Then you can judge for me. [] Better yet, if you see one of those McIntoshes with the pretty blue lights at a thrift store for cheap - can you hang onto it for me?
  2. BEC (or anyone) - What choices would be available in the caps? And would the ears hear any differences between them? I read something about Kimber? And Auro(sp)something? All I know about them is that I think they are yellow.
  3. c'mon Jeff - Do it! He already has them so it makes sense. Then report your impressions. Bob - besides the caps, is there anything else Jeff's x-overs could use? Besides that brass screw?
  4. Played 2 ch stereo on my khorns - neither dvd sounds good. Certainly not compared to others. I only bought R30 cuz it was supposed to sound better. Dissapointing.
  5. When his auctions get pulled - he's not responsible for the listing/closing fees. Also, if you email him to F with him - do so under another ID and not one you might sell with. You don't want him to get po'd and retaliate by bombing any auctions you might have listed now or in the future. Man - I hate that guy. Hope something bad happens to him. Instant karma or something.
  6. Bidding on his auction will only make him want to keep trying his scam. He'll think he can pull off a score & keep relisting & relisting. All he needs is one idiot to call him up & "buy" something. The more he keeps trying - the more chance of reeling in a sucker. I think it's not a good idea to bid. Just keep reporting him so his auctions get killed immediately and hopefully he'll tire of the game eventually.
  7. I've reported him 3 times on Sunday alone! through the Powersellers complaint section. They've been very quick about booting him. He always uses the same ad with the yellow top section.
  8. May I ask what the part looks like that you are referring to? The inductor?
  9. Ricktate - We hooked up another source to compare to the cd player. No difference. He brought up his gear & did something. Swapped speaker locations (cords followed speaks) - right side still sounds iffy (as expected) so I guess it's the room.
  10. Test - I'm having probs. Tried to post 3 times already.
  11. Tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. tap tap tap....
  12. This is a disaster for me. I didn't know this. Thank you for posting.
  13. [] Great! Very cool! He was in Japan back in the 80's. Very cool deep barotone voice. It'll be interesting if you hear the S's & T's like I do on it. Like when he says "Ssssssseptember". Flat out hurts me. And I hear background hiss on many 'pin drop' parts and it'll be interesting if you hear the same. It's a pretty album. Mello, semi-minimalistic, pure & darkish (in tone). No specific song recommendations as the album sort of flows into each song & is an overall mood. Give a good listen, then again - and let me know what you think. He puts out an album like once every 5 years and rarely tours. Last time I saw him was with when Fripp hooked up with him at Park West. I think I was the only female in the crowd. I was embarrased for my kind.
  14. Rick/3dzapper - I appreciate you letting me listen to them for another week. Sure that's OK? I think it would be interesting to sort of get used to them a bit, then go without. That might be the best test. I'm going to assume (via reading threads) that full-blown foofoo new x-overs will affect a noticeable improvement. I sent the ALK pages to "hubby" and he's pretty much for the concept in general, but it will take further research to figure out if we went for it balls to the walls - which one would be best. 78 - Yes, the offending side is my fireplace fake wall area. The 1" slab of mdf extends just shy of 4'. I think it was 2" shy. We have foamed the tail boards and the horiz. top of the bass bin. I plan to foam the spot where the mdf is shoved against the concrete ledge of the fireplace tonight or tomorrow to see if things get warmer there. When we turn both speaks on at the same volume - we can't tell it's different so hopefully this Behringer EQ will tweak it and we'll be happy.
  15. Aw come on Ewin - Let the love in. Don't fight it. (hugs)
  16. I totally agree with you on the location of the diamond logo. They should have asked us about it. []However, I do think it looks great overall & like the veneer. I want one! Hopefully in 10 years I'll find one on Craigslist. (yea right) I appreciate Klipsch keeping these speakers going (esp. adding the Cornwall to the re-releases) & not ditching them in favor of tall skinnies that need a sub.
  17. Well, we swapped speaker positions and the issue stayed in the same old places so it's the room. I can stomach this. We listened to both with old x-overs then new. Husband heard no change and proclaimed he told me he wouldn't unless a true a/b can be done. OK I "think" (emphasis 'think'), I heard a change. I played 2 tracks; one from David Sylvian's 'Secrets of the Beehive' (and OMG I sure wish someone here would download that thing so I have someone to talk to about it cuz I think I'm the only one here that has it. I guess I shouldn't have picked such an apparently obscure thing to listen to but I must say I would certainly think an audiophile forum would be familiar with this and I'm dissapointed in Y'all LOL). Then Steeley dan 'Babylon sister' (ewww!). On the David stuff, I "think" I heard a bit more pronounced violin, and other slight nuances here & there. And some soft background trumpet I "think" was a bit more forward". I "think". On the SD.... When they sing 'here come those santa ana winds again' and there's a chimes sound? I "think" the chimes were more pronounced. I "think". And another part I thought was more forward, but I forgot now what it was. I simply might have listened more intently/differently with the new x-overs? IDK. Maybe if I switched back, they'd still be there. IF (big IF) I hear any improvement, it's beyond subtle. As much as I HATE to admit it (and trust me, It makes me semi-sad, and this is most painful), but I might be in the Jeff camp on this (pounding head against desk). Husband if fully in Jeff camp. I'm going to give a listen again, but I'm not being hit with anything much here - if at all. I think changing the caps makes sense for basic maintenance and will likely do that. Probably a DIY if someone can point me in the right direction for the highest quality caps. What am I missing here? I kinda feel like a failure. [] Did others see big improvement just by replacing caps? Was it pretty obvious?
  18. Yea, I bought R30 cuz I read that it was going to sound amazing and was dissapointed. Oh well. But I still think Rio is more fun & I loved Geddy getting off on the whole crowd thing. Either way, I've watched Primus 'Halucinogenetics' about 10 times now. Brill! THAT's the DVD I'm excited about.
  19. Yea, I'm waiting for him to get home & get settled in so we can do this. I already tested the amp part of it. Then we're going to do a listen with BOTH with old then new x-overs. Then I'm done with the x-over part.
  20. Oh wow. Been wondering what inside those things. What am I looking at? What's the deal with the 'ribbon'?
  21. I'm not crazy about the sound on either DVD, but still think if I had to buy one, it would have to be Rio. Gotta love the Vibe. The whole package.
  22. Darn. I thought Jeff was going to buy this. C'mon Jeff! Try the tube thing!
  23. I realize you don't have this particular gadget and I realize you feel all those apparently respected forum members who reported significant differences must be crazy. I realize you know this without owning it or probably reading the reviews both here & off site. I realize you're going to proclaim something as fact just because you made it so in your head. (even future events) I didn't spend time trying to make my old speakers work better.
  24. Jeff - I'd bet money that this EQ will help immensely. Alot of people here have one with great reviews of what it can do. Reports of dramatic good changes. I trust that. Did alot of research off this site also and I feel no matter what, it'll have a use here. We'll see over the weekend. Why are you so sure it won't fix my issue? Do you have this particular gadget? BTW - It's not a receiver issue. Checked that. Bet it's the room. I'm not throwing the EQ into the mix till I'm done with everthing else (except buying a new CD player). Did you send your old x-overs over to Bob? And are you still giving Rick's a shot? Your test seemed dramatically short.
