  1. 1) do you use it with a TV or with your computer? if you use it with your TV, then it is NOT a PC configuration. if you use it with your monitor, you do not need 5.1. sur you will hear a difference, there's another speaker! but it will not add to your experience. i get the feeling that you haven't experienced 5.1 with your puter. then how could you know whether 5.1 is better? sure it sounds better when you say to your friends "i've got dolby digital 5.1 on my computer", but then they'll be much more impressed when you actually make them hear the pros... so before you say a statement is crap...

    Sub

yes. you need a sub. everybody needs one. well, that's coming from a bass maniac, so... neways, seriously, to really experience movies to their fullest, you do need the extra kick in the pants. what is your budget?
  3. 1) the reason the center channel is useless is because it was developped in the first place to situate the dialogue for listeners who were off-axis. even if you do watch dvds on your puter, you don't need a center channel. 2) difference between analog and digital? well nothing once it's coming out of speakers, it's always analog. the reason the cambridge are "digital" is because they decode the digital bitstream themselves instead of letting the soundcard do it. 3) if you are crazy about having the best of the best, either go with the crossfires, or even better with the Eminent Technology LFT-11 in surround configuration.
  4. again, no need for 5.1 for the majority of pc users...
  5. not right now. maybe eventually. again, no need for 5.1 in a pc configuration.
  6. yes it would be too complicated for the added value imho, and the other speaker probably would not match.
  7. you don't need real dolby 5.1 in a pc system. the center channel is useless in a one listener configuration. the cambridge are sooooo wimpy compared to the pros. there's absolutely no comparison. let him have his cambridge, you'll be able to laugh at him at will after.
  8. technically you're right, because the pros do separate the bass themselves, and you can't run a separate lfe signal to the system. however, it is a system with 4 sats and 1 subwoofer, thus the 4.1 name
  9. okay, i just need to figure out how to find $21,900 US. no problem.
  10. nope, not that i know of. of course nobody knows about the durability, but i don't see why it would be different, the internals are pretty much the same.
  11. i have the tray model it was cheaper and there was no reason why it would perform better. admitted, it is cooler. the drive is plenty fast, with CDs and DVDs. when really spinning hard, it is pretty noisy, but since it is fast, it'll never stay that way more than a couple seconds. when it is coasting at normal speeds, it's pretty silent. i can hear it, but my computer fan is waaay louder. only problem, compared to my 32X burner and my old 16X CDROM, is that it takes a lot of time sometimes when I press eject. i know it has to spin down, and I've seen it happen with my friend's fast CDROM too, but it's still an annoyance. probably can't avoid that though. and anyways, it only happens every so often, it's doesn't have to spin down every time.
  12. i bought it oem from a local store, paid 160 CAN, and nothing came with it. nothing. just the drive. OEM... so cheap, so complicated when nothing works... i'm sorry, i was wrong, it's a 16X drive, not 15X.
  13. bought a pioneer 15X consensus seems to be they're the best, and so they're widely used.
  14. you guys are spoiled. the worst speakers i've ever own, i'm using them right now and they're also the best I've ever owned... sniff... :-( big Sony towers, by the way. And some tiny JBL midtowers... At least I have a paradigm PW2200... I NEED HEADPHONES!!
  15. john, AMAZING WORK!! have you ever considered selling some of those? if so, i'd be VERY interested... where do you live?

    c.d.rom drives

oh crap. i don't think there are CDROMs that are better than others, audio quality-wise. your best bet would probably be to buy a good Pioneer 15X DVD ROM. so cheap, so fast, sooooo nice... did you upgrade the promedia's cables? i would strongly advise you to do that, your system is certainly worhty of that upgrade. how much did you pay for the sound card?
  17. promedias? first, there may not be a sit that ships the to denmark. actually i doubt it since last time i checked there wasn't a site that shipped to Canada so... plus, he'd have to get a voltage adapter. isn't there a 220 volt version of the pros out? if so, he should be able to get them from an authorized klipsch audio store like we do in canada.
  18. the eq by itself cant snd bass to the sats. the crossover is in the pros. it can, however, send way too much bass to the pros, and the quantity would be so high that the small amount of midbass that is sent to the sats would make them bottom out. however, since the problem is described as static, i don't think it's the case. i haven't noticed that problem with the winamp eq, but in audio it is known that eqs in general make the sound worse because they interfere... neways i don't think it applies to a soft eq like the winamp one. maybe the mp3 is badly ripped and the eq is bringing out the faults in it...
  19. i don't think dts would offer much improvement on the promedia though. there is a slight difference when using expensive speakers, but i don't think the added expense of getting a decoder/receiver for the pros would be worth uit
  20. 1-no dts from soft 2-poerdvd and windvd are pretty equal, powerdvd has noticeably better sound though. 3-the acoustic edge is a very good choice, unless you play a lot of games, apparently eax doesn't work quite as well with the AE, but that's not confirmed. 4-go with soft decoder, your system is more than enough, depending on your videocard (i assume you have a pretty good one). soft decoder is way better than hardware. sounds much better and the image also seems to be better from my experience.
  21. and how do you get such a permit?
  22. nice review capn. i think you've basically summed up the klipsch sound, the difference between klipsch speakers in general and others. if you're looking for flat response, don't look to the Klipsch. but if you enjoy dynamic music, go for it.
  23. oh, then those weren't on the board, you just "imported" them from somewhere else... cool.
  24. not much more, distec. recall that the one driver in the 2.1 has the whole box of air to move; therefore, it is more efficient, it is used to its full potential. the two drivers in the 4.1 or v2.400 have to share the same box, they are less efficient. but the 4.1 will definitely have a little more output. to the best of my knowledge, the 2.1 also has the compression circuit. besides, the circuit is not all bad, it gives you good distortion free bass all the time and it prevents you to harm the sub.
