  1. Well, Ford recognizes these as different markets. That's why you can buy almost everything you need, including a new body and frame, for a 1966 Mustang, FROM Ford, and drop in a new crate 5.0 engine. FMC actively supports DIY enthusiasts because they know that fervent body of supporters: A) buys new Ford product, buys parts, C) acts as their best advertising spokesmen. KAT's support of the Heritage line doeas much the same ($20K Palladium or $10K KHorn?).
  2. For my part (and I'm sure PM's) it had nothing to do with politics. He's the world's most prominent Hope native (there's the relevance), and the set-up was too tempting... I'm only here for the laughs! Not politics at all. Just looking for some humor at a dark time. For the record, I like both Bill and Dubya (being as they are now friends, it would be senseless to like one without liking the other).
  3. They don't. I was at a Pilgrimage one year and even Hunter (I think it was him) said that the Heritage line doesn't keep the doors open. It's the lower end stuff that does. I would say their biggest expenditures are labor and materials. Not to mention the cost of shipping those monsters. But going back to something, I think, PWK said about small speakers sounding better and his famous BS reply "My opinion will change when physics changes." (paraphrasing) The Heritage line can exist because the Industrial line provides the opportunity. If Audiovox keeps the Industrial business (and keeps it in the USA/ARK), then the Heritage line can continue. I personally consider this doubtful, as tthis is a whole channel Audivox has no experience in. If Audiovox decides to abandon Hope, the probability exists that they sell it. The Arkansas politicians better get busy. Maybe former President Bill Clinton (and Hope native) could buy the company. I can imagine some great product testimonials: "Get blown away by the Heritage line." ...or maybe the Rockefeller family, and get the plant added to the Washington Arkansas Historical District.
  4. Hoping for the best, especially for the employees in Indianapolis and Hope.
  5. ? Merry Christmas! ? Happy New Year! ? Happy Holidays! ? Happy Chanukah! ? Good Yule! ? Swinging Saturnalia! ? Good Kwanzaa! ? Bah Humbug! Pick one or more. Enjoy! Feliz Navidad, pardners!
  6. A toast to God in the stable, and all it implies. Merry Christmas!
  7. I'm still using my 25 year old Nakamichi AM/FM clock radio (passed on the stereo module). I would recommend the $300+ Tivoli Model Three, configured as you like (up to $700). Or the $400 Yamaha TSX-130BL. ...but I'd probably buy the $25 KODA iP915 at Wally World.
  8. Mr. Kalin, thank you!My son-in-laws are already eyeing my LPs (and my Klipschorns) lustily... but not to sell. To keep!
  9. The (we) vinyl lovers all hang out at Needle Park.
  10. Happy Birthday, Glenn! Thanks for all you do and have done here (and elsewhere)! Have a great day!
  11. Anything more than an AR-XA is overkill. ...speaking with just a touch of hyperbole.
  12. The wife and I are shopping for a new home, one that will A) accommodate her aged parents, and be at least 200 miles closer to the grand babies, and C) be affordable on the forced retirement/occaissional consulting income I am expecting. So we're going on day-long tours with realtors, while I try to explain to the nice realtor lady that I need corners for my Klipschorns. Newer homes don't seem to have been built with Klipschorns in mind. Suxor.
  13. Great place. You are right on all observations: huge selection, a bit pricey, excellent condition, you get what you pay for. I hate buying a used LP, paying a decent price, and then having to clean it as if it was a garage sale buy. At Forever Young, all the LPs are pristine. Great place.
  14. It's not the amplification that buggers everything, it's the jigglin' of the material in the studio/post-production. That's where the sound falls into the realm of fantasy. Looking at the CDs the Klipsch staff likes to play in the Hope demo-room (pretty typical stereo showroom stuff with lots of sonic 'wow'), I'm sorry to say they may be in danger of losing touch with real REproduction as well. But then it's a business afterall, and not a mission.
  15. Frank, allow me to throw you a curve ball. There was only only one speaker manufacturer/design Paul Klipsch respected: Jack Frazier. There's a pair of Frazier Sevens on your local Craigslist for $375. They are amazing speakers, and that's a steal of a price (for what you get). They were $1200 in 1983. You ought to give them a listen.
  16. Golly I miss San Antonio Pearl as a daily drinker. It was a damn fine beer. A small amount dribbles out of the Miller brewery in Foat Wuth now... cans only. An honest lager that consistantly won blind tests. I heard Schlitz had returned to their old ways, but I haven't had any. I need to grab a sixer, if I can find some. Here at Casita Verano, we tend toward the Spaten, Rahr & Sons, Shiner Blonde*, Summit, Weihenstephaner and Hacker-Pschorr beers. MaiBocks and Marzens preferred. BIG GREAT NEWS! Shiner is bringing back their Shiner 96 brew, which is as good an Oktoberfest/Marzen Bier as I have ever tasted. * Do not like Shiner Bock. I'll drink a free one and not compain, but it's a poor excuse for a bock-style beer.
  17. I was HOPE-ing to meet you this year. Have a fun and SAFE 4th!
  18. You should ALWAYS have room for Cornwalls.
  19. My recently acquired Monte Carlos (first generation) hooked up to the T-Amp and iPod in the dining room.
  20. That wouild be correct. I don't remember a group shot being taken. The groups were fairly spread out. In fact I don't remember seeing everyone at any one given place or time. Ewps.
  21. I got something to go with my "Bullshit" button. ;-)
