  1. My father has old bose. They're like bookshelfs... sort of, which are 4 ways and sound pretty good. Later on I realized that there's this company called klipsch and I found out that they made speakers too. Then I compared the speakers and found out bose don't make speakers. They just made something that looked like speakers lol. My relative recently bought the top of the line bose lifestyle system and wow it sucks. No bass, no mid range, hell not much treble either.
  2. Yeah I suppose I had the same dilemma, so I moved on to HT stuff as well. As far as the X-fi, yes it's good and so it philips aurillium (I think that's how you spell it). Anyways in short, no the 5.1 ultra's are pretty below any of the RB stuff. If you're in a dorm, as I was 2 years ago, then I'd suggest the following depending on your cash. It also depends on whether you're going to be doing gaming and movies, thus 5.1, or music and some movies, 2.1. I had 5.1 which is awesome, but rather cumbersome to take care of seeing how there's a ton of wires and such so I prefer 2.1. I initially moved up from the 5.1 ultra's to RF-3's (older tower speakers) to RB-75's (somewhat smaller) bookshelf speakers. I'll just throw down some numbers for you. I also prefer the sound of Harmon Kardon 3480 or 3485. *I wouldn't ever buy the RB-51. Lol it's a matter of pride. Buying the lowest end just sucks* You need a receiver so the HK-3480 is about $250 on ebay Sub-12 about 300-350 on ebay (these subs die just like the promedias do so perhaps look into another brand. I have a sub-12 and its great) RB-81 about $500 on ebay (I think) RB-75 about $600-$700 RF-3's about $400-$500 RF-35 about $500-$600 RF-5 $600-$750 RF-7 $1000-$1300 These are prices that I've seen also think about heresys. They look like crap, but sound good. I didn't like the RF-3's, RF-35's, RF-5's due to a sort of missing mid range, but I believe that anything with the legendary 1.75" tweeter does fine.
  3. actually the woofer works fine and it's not as bad as I thought it was. I'll take some pictures today or tomorrow and post them up.
  4. Hi guys, Recently I saw an add on craigslist for a complete set of the 7 series and I purchased it, although, I had to take out some of my money for tuition and am now forced to sell them. (Most possibly the saddest day in my Klipsch life). So let me give you guys a detailed account of all the speakers. The speakers were purchased for the movie Mission Impossible II by Warner Brothers here in L.A. to use as props for a scene. On Craigslist I met with a guy who got them as a gift some how and kept them in storage for later usage but he needed money and sold them to me. *I just think it's awesome that they were used in a movie* Also they were not played in the movie, just used for aesthetically purposes only. There is a pair of RF-7's, in maple, a pair of RS-7's, in white, an RC-7, in maple, and an RSW-15, in maple. The grills never been used so they are still in their cardboard box and everything comes with the original boxing and Styrofoam packaging. One of the woofers on the RF-7 is dented, due to me picking it up awkwardly, which I will purchase a new woofer to be installed (I'm not positive that the woofer needs to be replaced, but I sure who never accept an imperfect RF-7), but otherwise everything is in great condition. There's no scratches or dents to anything else that I can see. The RSW-15 also doesn't have a power cord since I forgot to pack that when I went to purchase all of the speakers. The speakers have only been used once when I tested them out myself. I live in the LA area so you can save yourself so money and pick them up in person if you wish. Some of these prices may be a bit high, but they are in great condition and have been used as a movie prop too! (The shipping sticker says Warner Brothers etc.) RF-7 $1150 *pair* (A new woofer shall be included) *sold* RSW-15 $1000 *sold* RC-7 $500 *single* RS-7 $600 *pair*
  5. lol sorry I was being a bit sarcastic seeing as how one day I suppose they receivers will support such ludicrous amounts of speakers and subwoofers while people audiophiles such as myself continually break the bank in order to keep up with the ever exceeding standards of home theater.
  6. Short answer, No. What speakers are you running? How far apart? Travis I'm using a set of RB-75's positioned about a meter or so from me at around 45 degree angles. It's sort of an isosceles triangle. If you're wondering why perhaps I have them located so close is because they're hooked up to my computer.... although my computer is hooked up to a sizable 37" for a monitor. *Shrug* I'm just rather put off by how pin pointable the sound is. Do any of you guys feel like that? I WOULD like to encompass myself with like a 32.8 system *har har* but I really don't have the cash to buy another receiver and another couple sets of comparable speakers.
  7. Does anyone here position their speakers directly to their left and right so the channels play straight to their ears? I just can't tell whether I like the speakers in front of me positioned at 45 degree angles or to my sides.
  8. LOL yeah that sounds pretty ideal, although, I really don't have the space in my up coming year most likely. What about if I just purchased a rcx-4 and a few rsx-5's and use my rb-75's to complete the system? oh btw I truly do like the surround sound effect. I used to have the klipsch 5.1 ultras and then I upgraded eventually to the RB-75's.
  9. I have a question seeing as how I'm wanting to transfer from a 2.1 to a 7.1 or 5.1 or something a long those lines and I was looking at the audyssey card. When you play normal music, does it come out of all channels or just 2?
  10. Hi guys so I currently am using an HK-3380 (stereo receiver) with RB-75's and a SUB-12 this is all hooked up as an analog system to a sound blaster X-treme audio *or extreme music I forgot which one*. Although I suppose that this is sacrilegious but I'm thinking about selling everything then going for either a 5.1 6.1 or 7.1 with either a sunfire true sig or some other equally small yet great sub and another HK or pioneer elite. Since I'm not exactly rolling in cash per say and since I'm going to be going to med school next year, thus involving moving yet again, I was thinking more a long the lines of getting a bunch of RSX-5's and a RCX-4. I just hate not being surrounded in sound. [] One, I'd like your guys' opinions about this bold move *I say bold because I honestly love my RB-75's, but there's no way I can bring them with me next year since I can't bare to image the veneer getting marred so I will have to sell them.* Two, when I play music from my sound card will it just play in stereo or from ALL the speakers? I had the logitech z-5500 before and music either came out of primarily the center, or you could change to just left and right and a few other odd and ends combination which still didn't give me the surrounding sound. Three, where do you put all of the speakers and such? My current room is about 16x16 or so, which is my bedroom so I also have to account for a bed and a few other things. I just don't know how to deal with all of the wires, wall mounting or getting so many stands, and all of the other hassle. I've also contemplated purchasing a set of RSX-5's and just adding them onto my RB-75's to give it a little fuller sound and also to disperse the sound a bit. Any info/ideas/opinions would be great!
  11. I myself would go on audiogon and get a sunfire truefire which sometimes is extremely low for you to purchase or I'd look for an SVS on craigslist which usually yields pretty good results from time to time.
  12. Just to fill you in with a little information. The Apple Hi-Fi has no bass, it has a dinky little 5 inch speaker. Also there are no portable subwoofers in the same sense of the Hi-Fi that is actually worth purchasing unless you meant something that was relatively light like perhaps velodyne's minivee or spl-800 (is that was it's called? I forgot) or sunfires super junior. Also the Hi-Fi isn't very good. Perhaps the first step up into the klipsch world would be to purchase the klipsch's iFi which is avaliable only for refub from ebay and this web page.
  13. I'd just test it out and as long as it looks fine and plays fine, then I'd just throw down a flat $300. Low balling at anything below that would more or less be an insult (at least to me it would be).
  14. You know what I've concluded from theear? He's a collector of subwoofers lol what a wicked hobby, and yet expensive. Just curious... if each sub you have averages $1000 or so that means you've spent around $30000 although I doubt it's that low (more like $45,000), but what's your occupation? You must be earning a decent amount. All I can say is i envy your subs [] I just wish I had just 1 bigger and better sub.
  15. I for one do not like the NSD 10. I'd go with the sub-12. It has way more output and it's clean enough and deep enough for the price you pay. I snagged mine, albeit for an extremely low price, of $305 shipped off of ebay. But a used RSW-12 would be best then the sub-12 and RW-12 are pretty much the same. For the NSD, at least on mine, it didn't have a cross over which really bothered me to hear all the higher frequencies. Also I just hate how little sound the NSD10 puts out. I used to use it as a seat in lieu of a buttkicker. 105 dB vs 117 dB. I don't remember if the NSD is 105 with or without room gain, but its not nearly loud enough for me.
  16. I don't know the power drainage or the wattage req's, but there are 230 volt converters out there which we use (Americans) when go over seas. Also I believe that most houses are actually 230 volts leading into the house but have converters for them. Again I'm not entirely sure if that's true too, but I have an arc welder and I use it at my dad's place sometimes and the required voltage is 230v or something. So don't eliminate the fathom.
  17. So I have my sub-12 and I know someone who's selling a JL 12w6v2 and I was wondering what difference would it make?
  18. Don't get a sub-10 you won't be happy with that. Get the sub-12. Although everyone here will recommend the RSW-10 most likely, the output is just not enough for me. Don't buy the KSW it's pure crap. Also I wouldn't suggest the svs pb-10 it doesn't an a cross over built into it (and my stupid receiver didn't have one either lol). The dayton kits are nice and cheap too, but their output isn't nearly enough either. I would recommend trying out the rsw-10 and the sub-12 and seeing which one you like more. Either cleaner bass, or more of it. I personally chose more.
  19. heck if you're hitting for max number of crazy subs how about the 1812? That thing sure looks impressive. Wether or not it plays clean and such, I have no idea. Sure is expensive though.
  20. Actually I'm not sure what I want. I wanted the outlaw receiver but I was reading a bunch of things with the unit that didn't really assure me. I think someone said it bypasses the bass level on your sub and regulates it, itself. I like the bass blowing my doors off. There's other stuff as well, but I don't recall it very well. Also, the NAD looks pretty bad and thus I cannot buy it. I would like the new line of rotels 2.1 but that's a bit much. I actually have an older onkyo (20 years old?) I forgot, but the sound on that unit versus my HK-3380 is pretty big. Much more defined, clearer. The only problem is, there's not sub out (it would be horrible to run the speaker wires to the sub and back to my mains), there's no remote (i'm lazy and I don't want to run to my receiver to change the volume every minute), it's pretty crappy looking. Anyways, when I don't compare the HK directly to the onkyo it doesn't bother me. It's just the upgrade bug that's getting me.
  21. I was looking to buy another receiver, after I gave mine to my parents, so I was debating wether to buy another hk-3380 or an hk-3480. (the other receivers just don't look as cool) The 3480 I believe has the VMAx while the 3380 doesn't. The website basically said it helped to give 3d imaging. Is it worth it to buy the 3480 over the 3380?
  22. yeah same here. Stupid 5.1's sounded so good and then I heard the IFI's so I had to go buy something better. Currently I move around a lot so I pack lightly. I have rb-75's, a sub-12, and I'm looking to buy another receiver (probably pioneer elite or yamaha)
  23. ya. Have a good one everybody! Oops should be paying attention to my family.
  24. http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-RB-75-Speakers-in-Cherry-finish_W0QQitemZ220063346364QQihZ012QQcategoryZ14980QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem That's the link. I had been looking for about 5 months for mine and I just got them. Then these turn up. lol.
  25. does anyone know if the hk-3380 sounds like the avrs? I heard something like it's the same sound, but the avr's have more power and more features. I personally don't like the HK sound. It's not clean enough or warm enough for my tastes. I'm thinking about going back to onkyo or perhaps denon
