  1. Should have plenty of cleaner, rinse and brushes. Got a few hundred worth of 'accessories' from Elusive Disc today. Tried out the VPI the other night just to see if it rotated and sucked, it did. Now to get into some scrubbing, gotta be ready when the Tercel arrives.
  2. Arrived today, Thanks again Mark! It's cold and damp on the front steps today, 17 this morning, so I'm gonna let the Georgia Peach get a little warmer and drier for a few hours before I find out what clean noiseless muzak sounds like. She's lounging on her throne with slippers and robe on watching as I tear into the new VPI box.
  3. Thanks for the replies and especially to rplace. Very nicely detailed. I had just placed an order for the MoFi sleeves, just a hundred for now until I see what's what before I read this. I didn't have a clue about the outter sleeve and wish I had ordered some as you have a great idea there. I can probably work around the need for a spare cover to do the "gardening" with as I copped a Sonic Drive-in window tray many many years ago.....
  4. OK, the VPI cleaner arrives tomorrow (Peach preamp coming back same day as well!). I will not get my Tercel until late March when Mark get's the new batch built. Between now and Tercel arrivial I have a little time to spiffy up the 10-30 year old album collection of 400 or so records. I know that some are bound for the dump[:'(], some are salvageable and some have never been played. In the mix I will probably be needing some amount of inner sleeves. First, is there any reason in the world that I would replace servicable 'factory' sleeves based on what they are made of? Second, knowing that I probably need a bunch of sleeves to replace bad, groody (is that a word?) or missing ones which ones would I buy? I have seen clear, paper, rice paper, mother-to-end-all-sleeves, etc. As you can tell this is not the library of congress vinyl, just my lttle collection that I would like to clean and store oh, and listen to!
  5. I know that Cigarbum and I were 'enablers' and hope the misses winchester does not find out where we live. Monsieur Chris has yet to let the cat out of the bag who led him down the KHorn path. And I know the KHs/LaScalas did not fit in that Porsche he and the son were sporting around in.
  6. I find that selling / buying on this forum is less risky and when I sell any of my stuff I know what I want for it. Post it here and get a yes or no without the ebay hassles but then I don't NEED to sell my stuff. I would think that ebay would have the potential of selling for more. I have never sold on Audiogon but I have bought; at least I have paid someone some money, I'm starting to get a little worried.
  7. Thanks much, I will give it a shot when the big brown truck arrives.
  8. I use the niles (SPK--1, IIRC) to switch my Belles from the AVR the Mc two chanel. I let the Harmony 880 and AVR 12 volt trigger do their own thing: mute AVR, swap speaker inputs (5 sec delay), power up amp. Edit: http://www.4electronicwarehouse.com/products/niles/spk-1.html U need 1? got a spare in the box
  9. In my line of work we try very hard to keep the 270 volt dc noise out of everything else by shielding the everything else.
  10. I never had the Forte IIs in my HT system, I let them go too darn fast. I imagined they had a little more bass than the ChIIs. Given that you can audition them I'd say bring along an Academy that I know works quite well along those lines, and simply turn on the AVR to the pink noise calibration and listen to which one (CH or Forte) matches up better with the Academy. I use the pink noise and shift back and forth main/center/ same main and it's simple to see what matches better.
  11. Method? I envision something like shovel the dirt off, give it a ride on the RCM, it dispenses cleaner and brushes the groves and then the vacuum is turned on to remove fluid. At this point do you spray the water rinse on and re-vacuum or lint free wipe dry?
  12. Phoenix Record Cleaning Fluid with enzymes or Phoenix II for an alcohol free solution. What's the MPG or should I say APO (album per ounce)?
  13. OK so I don't know if I'll like it or not; if it'll work or not but since I bought the darn thing maybe I should get some hints from you guys that have used a RCM. What fliud(s) for the first cleaning of old albums that have never been properly cleaned and have been on the shelf for 15-20 years. Then what fluid for 'maintenance' upkeep. Max records before I need to change brushes? If you're familiar with the VPI 16.5 how many brushes/tubes/mats should I put in stock?
  14. Now we have an on the fly adjustment. Center too much gain but left out the lead singer. Rears WAY to much.
  15. That sound engineer needs a new job. The half time audio is BAD. No center (OK , level is way down), too much rear. EDIT: DirecTV or OTA local DD 5.1 same results
  16. Respectfully disagree; you need a matching voice up front.
  17. I currently have a Meridian DAC running off my PC to the system.
  18. Really only a small amount each week but I need to go thru the several hundred I have now to get them spiffied up. They have been untouched now for 10-15 years, gotta go inspect cull and clean. Just ordered a VPI 16.5.
  19. Chris, since there is limited 7.1 media available what would you think of the KH/LS/KH front, Cornwall surrounds and the other LS as the 6th channel rear?
  20. Winchester21, you heard the Cigarbum's Mc and his unmodded Jolida. You listened to my modded Jolida for a very few minutes. Did you like what you heard? I decided to go with the Hotrodaudiomod Jolida because I got to hear it in their lab locally and Underwood was doing his winter thing on the island and sends his repair work to some other place. If you would like I will drive over and see how much I can get another one for. Cheaper is good. Warranty is good. I have not had a moment's trouble with mine. Your mileage may vary.
  21. the wife is taking the kids for a swim and then on to a 'tupperware party'. I'll be home late tonight dear she says. I will have the house to myself, have pizza, Makers Mark and time. I wish my Peach was back but guess I'll plug the ol Jolida into the Mc, scratch where it itches and be somebody!
  22. I have a similiar problem. I am awaiting my PAA3 warranty return from Phonics to be delivered so I can do some RTA of the room. It has XLR out and I need it to feed my AVR to create the pink noise; XLR out of PAA3 to RCA in to the AVR. I guess I'll order the ones from Monoprice and see how it works. From what I find it could be a 50/50 chance.
