  1. I have to admit that I am extremely enamored with the whole trilogy. I am a long-time Dylan fan, but these three albums, in my opinion, are as good as my old Dylan favorites. Great, great stuff.
  2. Just had to chime in to show a little love for the Crowes. During my senior year of high school, Amorica never left my cd player. I must have every line of the whole album memorized. Anyway, to comment on the live show I have seen the Crowes five times and heard numerous live tapes. There are ups and downs for sure, but I have always been entertained.
  3. I would agree that the Postal Service album is great. If you want to go a little more to the guitar rock side of things, the lead singer is also in another band called Death Cab for Cutie - they have a great album out right now called Plans. If you like alternative folk, there is a new guy named Alexi Murdoch that has been getting quite a bit of airplay here in Austin over the past few weeks. I bought his album and highly recommend it. His sound is just beautiful. Reminds me of Nick Drake.
  4. "Acoustic material is made using the finest lint collected from gas fired dryers located in prestigious neighborhoods. The lint is deposited in collectors in the dryers and is almost at the correct density by the time it is collected" "the Model IV has a built-in compressor that automatically turns on to cool the driver coils" LMAO. That is some funny $#!% I gotta get one! After all, it's the Balrog Award Winner 2003 ...
  5. Thanks for hashing that out, guys The pics posted by pmsummer are the correct boards for my HIPs. Like I said, I know all of the previous owners and there is no way any of them did mods. Definitely not what I expected to see, though. An interesting little set for sure. They were bought between 80 and 82. Give us a full report when you open yours up, Mike!
  6. As far as I can tell, pmsummer is right (but I'm certainly no electrical engineer). I will try to take a pic and post it when I get home. From my limited experience, they do seem to have a pretty good bottom end - which may be a result of the unusual XOs. The set has been in my family since they were purchased in the early 80s and none of the owners have modified them (except for the paint).
  7. Sorry naysayers, I think it's one of the funniest shows currently in production. It's so deadpan! Beautiful. Dwight really is one of the most hilarious characters ever created. Seriously, my wife and I quote each show for an entire week until we see the new one.
  8. First stadium show for me was REM/Radiohead at the Woodlands Arena. Really great show - turned me into a Radiohead fan forever (and REM wasn't too shabby, either). Since moving to Austin, I have seen too many great shows to count. A few standouts include Gillian Welch, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Galactic, The Roots, Stereolab, Ben Harper, etc., etc...
  9. Hey Alex - what do you think of the Raconteurs album? I haven't been able to listen to it but I'm anxious to get a report.
  10. Those are my HIPs. If you take a look at the back panel of the cabinet you can tell that it's an overspray. Also, it's easy to see the paint layers if you examine some of the deeper nicks. I think I'll leave them alone for now, though. For one, I don't have the $$ to get them professionally refinished. Also, I don't want to give them up for a week or two!
  11. Worthless Dave Almond was great. Guys like that always blow me away. The Charter was for real (he gave me a pull). Pail was alright. The whole scene induced flashbacks to my high school days in deep woods East Texas. In fact, the last night at the Farmhouse gave me an overwhelming feeling of deja vu. I won't comment on Hazy Jane other than to say that they are fronted by one amazing engineer.
  12. tigerwood - here are a few more studio albums that I am aware of: Atom Heart Mother (one of my faves) Meddle A Saucerful of Secrets Obscured By Clouds The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn The Final Cut The Division Bell Ummagumma There are probably some more (definitely if you count live stuff). On a general note, I totally agree that an intense love of music is what you make of it. There are (and always will be) new, incredibly talented artists in every genre waiting to be discovered. The decade that they begin recording is of no consequence at all (IMHO). By the way - FIRST POST!
