  1. I'm in the Dallas area and would love to attend a gathering.
  2. Thank you! This site should be required reading for all that are satisfied (or prefer) modern remasterings. I cannot agree with the folks on this thread that feel that modern CDs sound better than ones recently issued. The majority of CDs issued from 1983-1990 were 'flat' transfers of tapes, sometimes the actual master copies were used. Starting in the mid-1990s, more master tapes were being used to compile these reissues, however, the mastering engineers started the unexcusable procedure of maximizing and clipping the signal for the sake of "loudness" and "punch". No thanks! I'll take a smoother, more quiet version any day of the week.
  3. Corns rule!! Now if only I could track down some ALK crossovers for them at a decent price.
  4. Thanks Michael. Yeah, I can see the staples. I got some replicas from Tom Mobley, but I thought they just didn't look "right" after I painted them in gold leaf. So, I splurged and got some genuine ones via ebay. Yes, I found my Watco too at Lowes. That stuff works great! Shiny, but not too shiny. Doesn't really do anything for nicks or scratches, but the wood looks great.
  5. One more question regarding the emblem placement: Are they supposed to be both on the upper right hand corner of the grill? I've seen some that are mirror image placement on opposite sides. edit to include pic in case anyone wanted a better shot of what they look like. Probably have about 8 coats of watco on them. Still tiny marks on the top, you can't see them in a photo, so not technically flawless but still pretty nice.
  6. OK, I think I got (and responded to) everyone's PMs and emails. All interested in Corns or AR3a's feel free to email me directly:beatcrazy AT gmail DOT com
  7. [] Would consider it, but I got speakers coming out my ears! Gotta nice pair of AR-3a's I need to sell too. Will let these run here until this evening, then off to the wolves on Craigslist!!
  8. Sure thing. It's a bit tough to get flaws to show up in pics, but here goes. Overall, they're very respectable, a good sanding would take them to the next level. Heck, a single Corn recently went for $510 on ebay, these puppies should be priced right! []
  9. Hi all, Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in, but here goes: I'm offering up my '79 Corns here first for my Klipsch buds before messing with ebay/Craigslist. The serial numbers are 20T582 and 20T583. Their condition is decent, with cabinets showing some scrapes, marks and a few minor chips. All drivers, electronics are orginal, and they sound fantastic. They were originally raw birch, but have had a laquer of some sort applied (very nicely), giving them a nice honey color. I'm only selling because I have another pair of Corns in walnut, so these must go. I'm in Carrollton, buyer must pick up as I have no means to transport them. Price: $600
  10. The grain is indeed very beautiful! Is the finish a laquer, or oiled?
  11. Can I ask again, what is the finish on those nice CWIIIs?
  12. Thanks for sharing the pics from the factory, I'm green with envy! Is the finish Walnut Oiled or Walnut Laquer?
  13. Excellent! You did great on the price. Try the Watco Rejuvenating Oil at Lowe's. I'm using them on my CWO '74 pair with great results. What happend to the TV?
  14. Good tip Bob. I'd rather not solder directly to the drivers. I'm no soldering pro, but I can get by. I was able to find a couple of monster 20ft pairs @ $9.97 today. Ya, I realize that thicker wire will not exactly improve the sound. I just saw that 30+ year old wiring in there and thought abouut replacing so I can give 'em another 30 years of happy sounds after I update the xovers. [] I know the K33 has wires soldered directly to the driver, and the squaker has pinch on terminals.. Can't remember what the tweeter uses?
  15. Oh I didn't realize it was the mini monster version. I've used it before and am familiar with the fishing line core. I actually have a packet of blue spades in my box of 'parts junk'. I still think they're kinda flimsy, but I guess they get the job done. I'm leaning towards solder. Would I use a different type of spade?
  16. That's a great tip on the wire. I didn't realize it was on clearance at all locations. Any ideas for a more sturdy spade? I think I've used those before but the metal is thin and may not accomodate that Monster wire.
  17. Hi, I pulled apart my '74 Cornwalls the other day to rotate the K-33-Ps. Sure enough they had the infamous "doping drip" near the bottom of the surround. So when I rotated one of the big 15"s, I realized I there wasn't a lot of slack in the speaker wire going from the woofer to the crossover. I made it work, but it got me thinking about upgrading the 30+ year old internal wiring network. I plan on replacing the crossover network soon. Anybody done this before? I'm all for a DIY adventure if someone wants to recommend decent (but cheap!) wire and spade connectors that I could solder. -Sam
  18. Heck no! I already have two pairs of Corns, and that's one too many
  19. Nice receiver, but what specific question are you asking??
  20. Whoa that is a deal. I paid $800 for my '74 CWO (very similar condition) in Dallas just a couple of weeks back.
  21. Congrats! Please report back with listening impressions and pictures [H]
  22. Dumb question: Why is cast frame better than stamped?
