  1. Hi Ya'all, hope you all had a great Xmas. As promised, I got my new camera for Xmas and I am still playing with it(first pics today! It is a Canon S3IS, so if anyone knows what settings to use for screen shots please let me know. Anyway, my HT is more function than form, its soundblocked and has very nice accoustics with heavy black cloth walls and ceilings. (it looks better in person than in the pics, like me, LOL). Almost finished upgrading gear, a nice 200-300 wpc amp is next and then some much needed HT leather seating. Here goes.....
  2. Dr.Who, Hello and Happy New year! Another very well written and very informative article from you. We should all consider ourselves lucky indeed to have your knowledge and expertise available to us just because your love of our passion. I for one look forward to many more of your posts, Kind regards, Chris
  3. That HK will really kick those 62's, you will love the setup.
  4. I have the DVE disc, really excellent product and superior filters to AVIA . Has a basic setup and a huge advanced section for Video and audio calibration.
  5. Hi all, I have the Oppo 971H, doesn;t do SACD but does DVD audio and oh my gawd, it is stunning sound. The PQ through upconvert to my Z-5 PJ on a 96" screen is fantastic.
  6. I bought the Sanyo Z-5 one month ago, amazing! Also a 5 star rating at Projectorcentral.com. Paid $2000CAD plus tax of course with standard 3 year warranty and a spare lamp ($457 CAD value.)
  7. Hey guys, Have had the Oppo for about 4 weeks. PQ through DVI-HDMI upconvert to 720P on my Sanyo Z5 PJ is really awesome, its incredible for the price compared to players costing 5 times as much. Audio for CD's is about average for a descent DVD player, on movie soundtracks and concerts I noticed a HUGE improvement over my HK DVD22 which cost $100 more a year ago and does not upconvert or do Multi channel audio, you guys will love it. Cheers
  8. Hey everyone, Merry Xmas! Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes. After getting my Oppo 971H(does DVD Audio) a few weeks ago, I was in a store yesterday that actually had a good selection of Multi Channel audio discs. I thought, hmm, wonder what these "advanced resolution" discs sound like? Well I picked up Michael Mcdonald "Motown" in DVD Audio, LOL, I know, I know, but it was cheap and I wanted to "test" the DVD Audio out before spending $30 on an audio disc. Well, I will be buying lots more of these I can tell you that. I don't have a $500 CD player or DVD player for that matter so some discs sounded alot better than others but, to hear this DVD Audio is really quite stunning, I have never heard the RF83's perform to this level, the bass extention and clarity throughout the whole range is really, really friggin amazing. If the stores selling speakers were demoing with this format they would be sold out of RF83's for weeks! Some Reference DVD concerts such as Eagles HFO and Farewell One Tour, Clapton One More Car, One More Rider, etc are fantastic but on my system, about 80% of what the DVD Audio sounds like. Its really great to have another option for really high grade audio quality for that "near" audiophile experience. My Daughter picked up The Police Greatest hits in HighRes DTS 5.1 for Xmas, will let you know how that sounds in the New Year. Hope you all have a fantastic Xmas, Chris. I work right through the Holidays so have some Turkey and eggnog for me, Cheers.
  9. mbajner, thanks for your reply. Pretty much what I thought. I will be purchasing soon, will post the results then, Cheers!
  10. Hi all, getting ready to purchase this amp, has rave reviews on the net. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these units. Will be powering my RF83's, RC64 and Mirage OM260's in surround and using My Yamaha RXV2500 as pre/pro for now.
  11. Frak, Some Klipsch speakers can sound somewhat "bright" depending on the model and what type of receiver/amp they are hooked up to,also to some extent the source player(DVD/CD player). However, for HT use rather than music I think you will love the dynamics and in your face presentation. They can be fantastic for music(my 83's certainly are) but as I said require a little more attention in positioning, connected equipment, EQ settings and very importantly , the source material. Some CD's and DVD's for that matter sound like crap, and because the Klipsch speakers are very accurate you hear that "crap" more than with your average run of the mill Polk/ Paradigm/PSB type of speaker. The really positive thing is that when you hear a well recorded disc it sounds like sonic bliss.....lol,...gotta go listen to my 83's now[li] Hope this helps, just my observations so far after a few months of joining the Klipsch fraternity.
  12. LOL..White Wedding was years after disco died, and you were a DJ?
  13. I Love music period. There was some crap disco to be sure but there was also some very well written, arranged and performed music (Disco Inferno for example). I enjoyed the disco era but I still had copies of Bad Company, Nazereth, Thin Lizzy, Tom Robinson band, Judas Priest,The Stranglers,LedZep mixed in with my Saturday Night Fever LP....LOL..those were the days...I think?
  14. Check out the Paradigm PW2100, 500RMS/1500 peak, excellent sub especially for the money, should be bang on $500. The Ear who is probably thee Sub Guru on here will attest to the PW series being an excellent product. http://www.paradigm.com/Website/SiteParadigmProduct/ParadigmModels/SubWoofers/PW_Series.html
  15. Hiya all. I am running a Paradigm PW2200 (thing is a monster) and a Mirage FXR10 from LFE out on the Yamaha 2500 with a Y-adaptor. Subs are located left and right of center stage and really do sound awesome, you really get that "kick" drum pounding now. Had TopGun Special Edition playing in DTS 6.1 last night, yeeehaaa..lol.
  16. If you have the room/lighting you can get a nice PJ and DIY screen with very nice material for $2000.
  17. Hi all, Santa came early to our house too! He left behind a shiny Sanyo PLV-Z5 Projector and a 96" screen. Someone must have been very good.. Merry Xmas to all.
  18. Belkin offers a multimedia/HT unit for around $60 cad, seems to have all the bells and whistles and a good warranty.(never heard of any claims on these)?
  19. Frak, the easiest way is with a multi channel amp for HT use such as Rotel 1065 or even better 1095 which are both 5 channel amps in one big box! A big step up would be Bryston 9bSSt for example...one of the best Solid State multi channel amps around but big bucks. Both of these types of amps are easily connected from your Marantz with decent RCA cables(one for each channel) You may also go the way of seperates or "monoblocks" , one amp for each channel, bigger bucks!.lol Good luck and above all enjoy and have fun!
  20. Hi everyone, finally got my brand spanking new Sanyo PLV-Z5 projector. Its mounted in the back of my Dedicated HT 20x15. I am currently using a 96 inch diag. DIY screen I made. I can only say that the picture quality is simply jaw dropping, its that good. Also have to give credit to the new Oppo 971H DVD player, colours and black levels are really really gorgeous. My wife and daughter were treated to Toy Story 25th anniversary edition for the inaugural showing, they were stunned at the picture and could not stop saying , wow, holy etc, LOL. I had hoped it would be good but this is way beyond my expectations. Also of note, the sound quality from the Oppo 971 is so superior to my HK DVD22, its literally night and day difference in music and soundtracks in movies, I am one very happy HT dude! 21. Johnny, In short, yes and no, LOL. My Yam RXv2500 is 130wpc and really belts out the volume if required especially with the efficiency of the Klipsch stuff. However, a seperate, quality 250wpc minimum amp would really make these babies shine without a doubt. I plan on getting a Bryston 6BSST 3x300wpc!! when funds allow, I am currently in the process of ordering and installing my new Sanyo Z-5 PJ. Today I am attempting to build my DIY screen, should be good for a laugh! Will post pics of my HT when I am done.
  22. Hi all, just my 2cents again. my HT is 15.5'x25'. Sound is excellent and bass is not muddy by any stretch, in fact they just pound the bass out, clearly and cleanly with beautiful rich mids. In fact In my case its the highs that can get a bit unruly but have fixed that problem with tweaking the very adjustable EQ on my Yamaha receiver. I /we sit about 15' from the mains on the second level of raised seating. The horns are right at ear level and I think this is why I had to tame down the high freqs a little. One thing to remember also is the breakin period. I honestly noticed a big difference in SQ after the 50 hour mark and they just seem to get better with each hour.
