  1. Do you still have the rest of the 70 Monte?
  2. Here is a link to a more custom vinyl storage solution... http://www.tonyswoodshop.com/
  3. Coytee... Can you 'splain the difference between the K-horn and the Jubilee in terms of placement and image formation distance - the optimum listening position in 25 x 20 room? I still lack horns for the Oklahoma installation so maybe I really should put the cats out to mouse it and buy the jubilees and get right from the start?[8-|]
  4. Just read your PM and Many Thanks for the great website leads and info on tubes. The PM notification didn't notify me either - so Thanks Again for pinging me and I'll be sure to reciprocate if I find any "deep info".
  5. Ebay is one big "cracked, chipped, broken" garage sale where they charge you extra even if you personally load it into your own car. Not to say once in a while there isn't a genuine decent guy selling an inheirited or surplus object fairly described, adequately pictured and reasonably shipped - of course packing is an entirely different matter. 99% of the sellers [:|] quickly loose interest in the sale after they cash the check - and most have no interst and even less knowledge[:^)] when it comes to packing, prefering to use the [8-)]"professionals" [*-)]at the UPS store (I know - other folks experience was entirely different - or at least so they claim in public!). There are no bargains or steals on ebay. Bottom Line: "Any man that goes to a big city gets what he deserves!" Horace Vandegelder in the Hello Dolly.[W]
  6. http://www.pmillett.com/ Don't know if this has been previously posted...but definitely worth a look if you like tube-gear and other vintage hi-fi...
  7. Actually the UPS website is a treasure trove of expert packing advice...AND it tells you how to pack IAW their own insurance regulations. Naturally their style of packing costs more than "peanuts" but so do the amps! Check'em out.....and watch for polystyrene....it is different from styrofoam.
  8. Coytee.... I thought you told me once that you could put your Jubs out in the garage, crank'em up and I could audition them out in Oklahoma?[]
  9. I have been packing and moving everything I owned while in the USAF. In addition we have bought and sold antique china for 42 years and here are a couple of things I learned (sometimes the hard way)... 1. Avoid using "crumpled newspaper" completely negates the shipping insurance issued by the US Post Office, FEDEX, UPS and DHL...as well as most "moving companies". And besides, it is dirty and I don't have time to read my own hometown newspaper so why would I want to read yours? 2. Do use the UPS website guidelines as a minimum. After many years of complaints and a couple of lawsuits UPS has published their guidance on packing for insured shipment and it is "good stuff". Previously they always said "well protected" and then promptly refused most claims (I know - not yours - just most!). 3. Packing anything fragile - from a teacup to a MC30 - requires equal amounts of packing on every side! Let me say that another way - each side! Or if you prefer - even the bottom. And don't think a MacAmp isn't fragile - a bent chasis is a common shipping problem due to the bottom heavy weight and lack of equal packing material allowing a "tip and rollover" where the transformers crash down hard. And your package rarely rides with the label side up - much as you might wish it would. So cushion the bottom too. 4. Double and triple box to avoid "shock transfer" using new double-wall boxes (see the difference...double-boxing using double-wall boxes)....and use polystyrene foam between the boxes....costs more but does prevent shock transfer and will prevent most punctures that polystyrofoam allows. And check the "burst strength" on the bottom - a "90lb BS" box will frequently burst open with just a pair of cowboy boots if dropped on the corner. Use double-wall or even triple-wall boxes....new boxes...read the regs again. 5. Why don't the OEM's use all this expensive packing? Becaue they are self insured and selling general production line material - not their prized 50 year old amp or speaker. If they break or loose one they just replace it as a cost of doing business, and of course the consumer pays a little extra in the price to cover this eventuality. 6. A short story. A customer called us over a period of nearly three weeks agonizing over the purchase of an antique creamer need to complete a 124 piece dinner set made in 1838. She had everything except the creamer. The creamer had a retail value in excess of $1000 but we offered it to her at $900 because we liked the story about her "beloved daughter-in-law" (usually a ploy to get a lower price but we love that story). ...and finally she agreed to purchase but only if we would waive the $20 packing and shipping fee for double boxing (with the insurance required new boxes), custom-cut foam and styrene outer layer plus insurance - a bargain in those days. I hope she found another creamer becaue we found another buyer who thought $20 was a bargain to protect a fragile 150 year old creamer. If it is vaulable enough to purchase and own it should be valuable enough to ship the best way possible. And I won't belabor you with how I am shipping a pair of Belles to Oklahoma - but I will say they are a Christmas present and I am not saving a couple of bucks on 2x4's and plywood. And I am using Mayflower Movers at a 20% premium over Bob's Best Moving Company and Sushi Bar. Great sushi but moving my wife's present - sorry Bob. Want to see a real packing case....See "gilberts" vault....overkill? Not if you really value the speakers or whatever you put in the vault. It's your move and your stuff...make it your best!
  10. Laugh all you want oh disbelievers, sons of the Transistorites[6] ....but... I put one in the laundry room and I swear by the beard of Paul Klipsch that the washing machine sounds much "sweeter and warmer but still retains a touch of brillance in the upper registers."
  11. To be perfectly honest...I don't know. I never opened the boxes from Coytee...just wrapped them in Christmas paper. The whole thing is a present for my wife.
  12. I agree ...I was really just looking aound for some stocking-stuffers. But then again this weekend she decided (still unawares of it all) to allow me treat her to a new King size leather bound Bernhardt sleigh-bed....all I could do was sort' smile. Glad I got the Belles at a bargain price. Maybe I should have told her in advance! But I'll probably come out of this all right as I usually do. I'm already "practicing" my quiet, little, in-the-corner voice..... "Gee, looky here honey...fella has a 1955 Chrysler Imperial for sale...drivable he says.."
  13. So unfair, I am amazed a gentleman would even suggest such a thing... Actually I have been "studying" the tube situation and was amazed at the price of this particular tube - upwards of $750 NOS, still "bagged and tagged". A full compliment of tubes for both amps - the best, NOS, you know, the ones the "big-boys" all praise - could buy you another MC-30 for a subwoofer. Amazing - but can anyone really hear the difference? Steve Hoffman says he has ten of these tubes and doesn't like any of them..."...too darned bright..." according to him. Like you warned me...I wasn't buying a simple old everyday Christmas present...I was embarking on a journey. But where's the brake !?
  14. I recently bought 8 of them. They seem to work. They make everything sound more analog. All my appliances no longer have a harsh top end. Even the washing machine sounds "warm and sweet"
  15. I do not want to start any "sectarian violence" especially on Election Day but (ain't there always).... Does anyone have any experience with using the Genalex B749 in the Phase Inverter slot on MC-30's...playing thru Belles? Thanks, Keith
  16. I have been considering the Heart-CD-CD6000-OSE-LE as a good quality tube CD player to mate up with the MC-30's, C-20 and Belles....thoughts Gentlemen.
  17. Talk about scarrrry...this just arrived at my local Borders Bookstore...
  18. Happy Halloween Ya'll Well Sorry..obviously I have been overcome with dumbitis and can't manage to post a simple .jpg image...??
  19. Amy, Where/how do you get those great little characters in your posts? Thanks
  20. I wholeheartedly agree with that. Full lineup.. IN fact, it makes me wonder something If it WAS outside, just for conversation purposes... If you had Khorns facing one direction in false corners. If you then put LaScalas facing the OPPOSITE direction so the listening area for each was directly opposing, would that be enough seperation for when they flexed the muscles? I'd think they'd have to have them all fired up, rather than "Khorns at 1:00" followed by Heresey's at 2:30 Listen to us, we're already setting it up...(us?) [] Actually a full semi-rig with drop downs on both sides with a full height wall down the center. The wall could be standard 2x4 construction with insulation and sound-board instead of wall-board sheathing (with Klipsch logs, ads etc). One side K-horns and Jubiliees.....the other side "all that lessor stuff" as Coytee refers to us folks of more "umble origins, m'Lord" Each side would play the same source to ensure synch and allow folks to wander back and forth to "check it out". 10% discount for a "cash-deposit" on the spot sale! Cokes and bburgers...Two local djs on opposite sides "dueling".......GOOD TO GO>>>LETS ROLL!!! ....and plenty of cheerleader-dancing girls....maybe oldbuckster would be willing to travel with the troup and act as "dorm-mother" to the cherleaders[]?? I like this more everytime I hear it!![6]
  21. Does anyone yet have dibs on those "l'bangedup"Jubilees for $1500 at the end of the tour?
  22. Dear Espguitars, Times of friends will get you through times of no speakers better than times of speakers will get you through times of no friends. Amy apologised as did some other Klipsch folks, ....you are getting a great financial deal from one of the last few remaining quality firms in America who sponsor this great forum......and it isn't really an incident, is it....the worst thing that happened to you is somebody was so busy getting you that good deal that they forgot to tell you about it. ...no harm, no foul? And I'm sure a lot of us would be your friend if you give us a chance. ...everyone here has been really helpful with all my "newbie, gee hunh?" questions.....Success is the reward of patience.
  23. Oh man!....and I just spent my lunch money on that dried out bagel....
