  1. I am selling my extremely rare Acoustron LWE-IA's, they are a little larger than a Heresy, but can cover the entire frequency range 20Hz-20Khz they use virtually the same drivers as the older Cornwall's and can go lower in bass response than a Cornwall in a significantly smaller package, the enclosure is sealed and not ported so the bass is very tight and controlled. They feature a very unique motion control feedback circuit. View my auction ad here, at the least it makes for some interesting reading. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14993&item=3017756115&rd=1
  2. Why in the world would you want to trade in La Scala's for RF-7's? Are you downgrading or just dont have the room for the 4 La Scala's? There is no doubt in my mind the La Scala is a better speaker. I have heard the RF-7's in a 2-channel and Home Theater environment, while they are very nice looking and sound really good, they are by not better than the La Scala. I am also fairly certain the dealer is not going to give you a bundle for them either. If you are going to use the RF-7's in a separate 2-channel system and not with the other pair of La Scala's and possibly the Chorus II's that is a different story. However, if they are for the home theater it would be foolish not to go all Heritage speakers for the best timbre matching you would certainly not be disappointed. To each his own I guess.
  3. Jim, I am selling the Belle's to cover the cost of the Khorns ($1250) in fact I just sold the Belle's on eBay for $1625. The La Scala's are narrower and will fit in the rear positions that I am going to put them in, the Belle's are too wide. The La Scala's are only going to cost me $400 in lacquered birch, 70's vintage how can I go wrong?
  4. I grew up in South Texas (Laredo) my father has a 7000 acre ranch there in Webb County and I have seen just about every nasty insect there is. The scariest thing is when it does manage to rain it floods the trap door tarantula's homes and they have to bail out. So picture thousands of tarantula's roaming around on the ground during a rainfall and shortly thereafter if you think a single spider is scary. They also have those bid tarantula killing bees down there with the reddish/orange wings that are pretty nasty. The insect that scares me the most is the praying mantis, I saw one about 6 inches long one time and it ran across the ground at lighting speed passing over my foot and scared the crap out of me. I even saw one munching on a cicada one time, I could hear it across the yard! I hate them things. It is way too cold here in Vermont for anything like that to survive but we do have the evilest of all tiny insects the nasty black fly that will leave whelks on your body after it feasts on your blood. They can crawl through screen holes.
  5. The beginning battle scene in DTS on the Gladiator DVD, and the initial scenes in Terminator 2 when it flashes to the future. When the terminator crushes the skull under it's foot you should just about jump out of your seat! The battle scenes on the Star Trek First Contact DVD when they are attacking the Borg cube is awesome as well. The list is endless!
  6. After I got my new (used) Khorns positioned and connected I noticed that DirectTV was offering Kansas and Peter Gabriel concerts for free. What a treat, talk about awesome, it sounded phenomenal they can obviously still play the ole' tunes very well. I can't wait to get the La Scala's set up in the rear. I did get a chance to preview a Klipsch Reference HT at a nearby dealer a few weekends ago (RF7's, RC7, RS7, and RF5's with a RSW-15 w/Denon 5803) it sounded nice and the effects on the "XXX" DVD avalanche scenes were great but it just did not seem to have the overall detail that I was used to with my Heritage HT.
  7. Follow this link to see what I am talking about. http://rvcc2.raritanval.edu/ktek9053/cdpage/
  8. The problem also lies with the level that the CD is recorded at, most of the newer CD's that I have purchased are so saturated and over-recorded that it sounds broken up even at very low volumes. So with the recording being at such a high level compounded by the volume level this will lead to certain disaster. I have to use my DBX 5BX-DS to compress the signal somewhat to make it tolerable, newer recordings are horrible. Play an older analog recorded CD and it will sound nice and clear, my DBX 14/10 measures line voltage in real time and the older recordings average about 1 volt. Some of these newer pressing push things into the 5 volt or more range. I have a link to a website that fully explains and illustrates this. The Beastie Boys also has very heavy bass content and the little 6" drivers in the RS7 will have alot of trouble reproducing it especially at such high recording levels. I hope that I am making sense here.
  9. They are extremely heavy, much heavier than a Heresy and somewhat taller but not as deep. Bass response is even better than a Cornwall, they are a sealed enclosure and not ported so the bass is tight and controlled. I have the original matching stands for them, I also have a 1970 Stereo Review article that reviewed and tested them. They were virtually perfectly flat 20Hz-20Khz according to the review, I can email it to you in the form of JPEG's that you can enlarge them and read it. I believe they were hand built in the late 60's in Louis Erath's facility in Houston, TX. Placing a value on them would be tough since they are so rare, I have never seen a pair of them for sale anywhere even on eBay. They would make quite the conversation piece for sure. They are in excellent condition with only minimal wear. Email me an offer and we can go from there. Frzninvt@yahoo.com
  10. The Belle's are going (currently on eBay) they are just there temporarily, the speakers on top of the Belle's are the Acoustron LWE-IA's which are extremely similar to the Cornwalls with the exception they use a 6" CTS midrange instead of a mid horn, the woofer is a 15" CTS and the tweeter is a vertically mounted EV T-35. They are extremely rare and feature the motion feedback circuit that utilizes a power amps negative feedback loop to reinforce the bass of the 15" driver down to a solid 20Hz. Their are controls on the back for room gain, tweeter and midrange levels. I am thinking about selling these as well as I have no room for them. I have the matching stands that go with them. They utilize Cinch-Jones connectors to send signals to and from the power amp. I was not using the circuit however. Their efficiency is about 96-98db or so and the sonic signature is very similar to the Klipsch speakers I had them connected as additional mains. I live in an apartment right now so the one butted up the the fridge is the best I can do for the time being. I think I will try added the tail seals and see what happens. Thanks for the advice. I have attached a photo of the LWE-I.
  11. Here is a photo of one of my new beauties! Would tail seals make much improvement in them? I was thinking of using 1/2" or 3/4" pipe insulation and slip it over the edges on them instead of purchasing the tail seal kit from Klipsch. Does anyone know how much it is? I am getting very good bass response but I am wondering if the tail seals would improve it further. Thoughts? They have the AK-2 crossovers, with K-55M mids and sound quite good I do not notice any drastic difference from the Belle's AA's and K-55V's with soldered on terminals.
  12. The weather was horrible, snow, freezing rain, slick roads, dork drivers but I perservered and made it to Maine and back in 12 hours and brought a beautiful pair of Oak Oil Khorns home! They are in stunning shape, applied a coat of boiled linseed oil and put them in place of the Belle's tonight. I love them! I immediately noticed the increase in the bottom end. I am going back for the La Scala's later this month they are older ones in Birch Lacquer, anyone need some Walnut Oil Heresy II's I will let them go for $425 and I have the original boxes for them. Khorns, La Scala center and soon to be La Scala rears - yeah baby! He has two Velodyne 15" subs as well I may look into those as well. The other pair of Khorns he has are Birch Lacquer with cane grills he only had one of them there at the time, he said the other had a scratch on the front and some rubber residue on the top from the feet of a component that sat on top of it for a time. The one that was there looked nice, I debated as to which pair I wanted. I took the Oak Oil ones though. I will most likely have the Belle's on eBay this weekend since I had no takers. I'll get some photos of my new babies up tomorrow. I thought the Belle's were big - Ha! Tough getting them things in my minivan. Bye for now.
  13. Luxman used to make very nice stuff, I think that they are still in business. I am not familiar with those models however. Your best bet is to do some benchmarking on eBay by viewing completed items to see if identical models have passed through. If not find someone that has a current Orion Blue Book for Home Audio to get a general idea on current market value and go from there. Obviously mint or near mint units complete with original boxes, user manuals and accessories would be worth more.
  14. While you are on the topic of ignorance I suggest that you look in the mirror! Did you not read the Webmaster's response in your previous thread? This is an audio website - Hello, Hello anybody in there? This is Klipsch.com not express your political views dot com. I see that you are 23 which means you are just now learning what Mr. Winkee is for that is if you didn't just make it up. My suggestion is take your ramblings elsewhere or do as your handle suggests and "read a book" and get out from in front of your keyboard. P.S. Do you have a cell phone, or something an AC-130 gunship can hone in on. Do us all a favor and just go away.
  15. That is hilarious! I must be pretty good at it, it took a little while but I landed a 225 mile an hour one on him and knocked him just silly!
  16. Those are a pair of 1969 La Scala's, the H indicates year of manufacture.
  17. Well Mr. Fini, since you wish to get technical the correct spelling is "doofus" slang term meaning incompetent! So I guess that makes you the dingdong that cant spell! Since it is a slang term I can spell it however I choose. Why don't you go choke down some cabbage rolls and pour the coffee over your head.
  18. Justin, who died and made you moderator of this BB! I will keep my signature however I chose to keep it! If it bothers you too bad! You're the only one who has ever *****ed! Don't you have high school to attend or monkey to spank. Don't go away mad, just go away!
  19. If he would have made a phone call to Klipsch or visited this BB he would have known that they are still available from Klipsch for $2.50 apiece w/$5 shipping. What a duphas! I have a pair maybe I should put them on eBay with a BIN price of $45, or buy a dozen from Klipsch and make a killing. No, now that would not be ethical. Despite the fact that it is against eBay rules I emailed a few of the losing bidders early on to let them know that they were still available from Klipsch at less than they were bidding. Golden rule, always do your research before bidding on eBay!
  20. I got the S/N's and crossover type on the Oak Oil Khorns that I will be picking up this Saturday. They are 1988 models I believe since the S/N's begin with "88" the S/N's are 1 number apart not sequential any problem with this? They have the AK-2 crossovers and the K-55M Squawkers. Is this a decent combination or should I keep my "AA" crossovers and K-55V's with the solder type terminals out of my Belle's and put the K-55M's and AK-2 in the Belle's prior to sale. Any real sonic advantage to doing this? Or should I leave the damn things alone. Did they use MDF in 1988 or was it still lumber core construction? Thoughts?
  21. A passive radiator enhances the bass response of the active bass driver or forward firing woofer. It is tuned similar to a port using the internal cabinet volume. The pressure generated by the active woofer moves the (drone) passive radiator thus reinforcing the low bass frequencies. If your local place cannot recone it try Simply Speakers in Florida.
  22. They are 70's vintage from what he told me, they have some cosmetic issues but nothing terrible. I am near Burlington, VT and yes I can take my digital camera along an snap some photos if you like. I will talk to him about them when I am there. Good thing I only have a mini-van or else I might come home with the La Scala's too. However I do have a roof rack, hmmmmmmm.
  23. Heresy II Cane Grills - Like new - about a year old purchased new from Klipsch still available I already ordered new black ones from Klipsch to match the Oak Oil Khorns I am getting. My center La Scala already has a black grill - lucky me! $80 plus shipping, if not to eBay we go.
  24. Belle's still available! Soon to be eBay bound if I don't get a definite taker from here on the BB. Khorns will be coming home with me Sat 4/5, then it's the auction block for the Belle's baby.
