  1. Burn the witch!!! But... How do we know that she's a witch? Because he wants to put an amp with a fan into the listening room.
  2. Amp power ratings are not the complete story. There are wimpy 150 watt amps and gut busting 60 watt amps. Multi-channel receivers are not know for their unlimited power output. However if you want to play you have to pay. A Parasound A51 (or the cheaper A21 if a stereo amp works for you) would solve any issue you might have.
  3. The Chinese tubes may not be that bad. I replaced some Chinese tubes with some NOS General Electrics on a tube buffer and the Chinese tubes sounded better. Mullard reissues are nice for 12AXX tubes, if we haven't cut off Russian imports. I was looking at the new Mullard's earlier. I've heard they're good and may get a quad of them since I have two devices that use them. Oh, also Russ, I'll bet there's a bunch of the new Mullard's already outside of Russia, so we should be good for a while. I hope so but I just bought a small lot of 12AX7s and 12AU7s to be sure. I was really happy with the EL84 power tubes I recently bought, I might need to get more of those.
  4. Quit beating around the bush, did you like it or not?

  6. You nailed it. Although using two different types of wires sounded interesting...
  7. Tell us more. How did you select the Palladiums, do you own Heritage speakers? Long time audio enthusiast or new to audio?
  8. How can you tell what is "Better Cable". If I buy 100% OFC Cable, is there anything "Better"? By listening evaluations.
  9. I'm going to surprise a few people here. I fully understand and use quality speaker cables however bi-wiring has not shown any benefit to me. It's not as dtel describes it's just two runs from the amp with the speaker strap removed, both drivers get the same signal just like they would with the strap in place. You basically double your cable cost for no improvement. A bigger change would be buying better cable than double the length of lessor quality cable.
  10. All the same problems as a line array, without any benefit of the work-arounds. Very limited dynamic capability, dipole radiation, and all the the IMD of a direct radiator. "Limited dynamic capability". They are for home use, not for filling stadiums. I still have some hearing left, I don't need 115 db inside my house. "dipole radiation". Some of us do not look at that as a negative. "Same problems as a line array". Bring it on, most of my favorite speakers are line arrays. "IMD of a direct radiator". Well if IMD is a detriment to detail and precision, I can live with that, electrostatics are known for their detail and accuracy.
  11. Or a large electrostatic, no frequency limits. King Sound King, 28hz-35khz.
  12. Hey just a test. Do they have: Thelma Houston "I've got the music in me" or Dennis Wilson "Pacific Ocean Blue" or Dianne Carroll "Tribute to Ethel Waters" complete albums?
  13. Need a bigger front door obviously.
  14. Oh now, who here can afford all the crap we have...OK, I can but that's beside the point.
  15. The Parasound A21 is a very nice amp and has a nice warm sound that will work with your speakers. I'd mix that with the right pre-amp, perhaps an all tube unit.
  16. If you have good local FM channels that you like to listen to, just go out and buy a cheap tuner. Otherwise just stream off the internet. There are a bazillion stations out there. I don't have a tuner, I just use the TV cable stations or spin a disc.
  17. The signal travels at the speed of light. The subs wavelengths are very long, longer than your room in most cases. The phase error due to signal differences is very small and that would be assuming that there are no phase errors in the recording.
  18. I guess that settles that! Yeah that 2 buck a foot AudioQuest Type 2 is making those guys rich....damn snake oil salesman.
  19. Yes on the Maggies, no to the rest. Regardless, that does not discount the HIII's ability to present a 3 dimensional sound or low level detail. Proper component matching(source, preamp, amp) and room will decide that. Bill The Heresys do not present as good a 3D image or detail on the same level that the loudspeakers I listed do, but when Quicksilvers are hooked up to some of these speakers it's pretty clear that the Heresys are the limiting factor. Not the other way around. It's not a fair comparison, the speakers I listed are very fine systems and come with substantial cost however I will stand by my statement that the Quicksivers out pace the Heresys.
  20. That I disagree totally, especially 3D space. Bill Ever hear a Magnepan 3.6, 20, Sanders model 10, Triangle Celius, or Infinity RS1Bs?
  21. They do. The Heresys ability to resolve low level detail, extended top end, bottom frequencies, and 3D space is limited, the Quicksilvers are not.
  22. Mostly Quicksilver Mini-monos, a very fine amp, probably better sounding than what the Heresys can deliver (I have run some very fine loudspeakers with these amps). I have also used AES Six-Pacs. Mono blocks IMHO deliver separation better than stereo amps, the Minis are affordable and a great amp with plenty of power unless you want to shake the house off the foundation.
  23. Not you in particular, Thebes, just the general consensus on this forum. Thebes, nothing personal at all, we have different viewpoints that's all. I thought it was a firm but healthy discussion on both sides. I'll apologize if you though it was a personal attack. I did have one observation that I have never shared on this forum. Not sure if it's even worth discussion but having used many different cables and interconnects on a LOT of different systems (I have 5 complete systems running now) I found that the Heresys that I have did not react to cable changes as much as my other systems. I don't have the technical explanation to support my subjective findings but for some reason big changes in cables made very small differences. On other systems changes have produced dramatic results. Anyway, that's just my observation, for what it's worth. I still have my favorites and that's what I shared in this thread. Thanx.
  24. Tube mono blocks, the right pre-amp, a sub, the right cables.
