  1. Careful there, you are in lampcord world here.
  2. There are many of you that feel the same way, I have no problem with that. But there are others that find their opinions useful. I have my favorites as well, some are frequent posters on other websites and we interact often. There has always been a certain level of skepticism, I think that is healthy but I'm not ready to say that writers opinions are worthless, perhaps some are more trustworthy than others but I find the top reviewers to be a useful part of my hobby.
  3. I didn't read any of the posts. The set-ups look like fine near field set-ups to me but then again, I would hold my opinion until I heard the room and see if it was working or not. The reviewers are well known and they have the ability to describe what they hear and put that into words that are worth reading. They all are known to have the ability to differentiate the differences in equipment to a fairly accurate level. I guess you can criticize the look of their systems but the tools they are using are getting the job done, if it wasn't they would have no credibility at all and nobody would read what they say and that is certainly not the case.
  4. I'm a big Parasound fan and I have owned a few, currently run an A21 amp.
  5. I understand what phase timing at a fixed crossover point is. Given that most designs ignore the issue completely, I'm not sure how important it is. Nor have I ever had the chance to listen, correct and listen again. My jury is still out. Some guys say they can hear absolute phase differences but I never have.
  6. You posted that you were going to buy the Zamp so I didn't want to do one of those "What do you think of my new wife" deals....I was too late.
  7. I was an aerospace designer, which included composite design but a guy down at a surfboard shop probably knows more than I do. The silicone mold is easy, then you need some epoxy resin, you can get that anywhere. The discontinuous fibers? I don't know where to source that, but anything will work, You could buy just some carbon/glass mat and cut up some fibers yourself. Fibers 1/3 as long as they are in diameter have full strength of mat composite, so they can be very short. Maybe some fiberglass people can jump in....
  8. I hate the HDMI software. I turn on the disc player and it changes the TV input. I didn't ask for that.
  9. I'm a dedicated tube guy. It's a different flavor and then some. Personally, I feel tubes and horns are a great marriage. Well to be honest tubes and electrostats are an epic marriage sometimes a bit like Burton and Taylor though...
  10. I experimented with equalizers in the early seventies (SAE dual band). That's an awful large amount of circuit and sliders to add to a system. In my case I didn't think it helped, it added grain. I don't hope to get lucky, I have a good selection of cables on hand to try out. Buying the first few is when you need some luck (or good advice).
  11. When you contradict yourself you lose all credibility. Why can't you give a straight answer? Are you afraid of something. If someone asks me the Best Amplifier or Speaker that I've heard, I have no trouble giving them my opinion. No contradiction, you need to evaluate, quantify, and then apply. I'm being as straight with you as is possible. I'm not afraid of anything obviously, I'm in a cable discussion on the Klipsch website, that should prove something, no? (asbestos underwear at least) There is no best, there is only what works best for your application. I can name a half dozen loudspeaker systems that are all dream systems but they all sound different. They are not wrong, just different. I removed the word best out of my hi-fi vocabulary a long time ago there are just too many really fine systems out there to pick one best system or one best component. If it was that easy, we would all be running the same gear, budget permitting.
  12. Don't forget, it's a Juke Box not a HI-Fi. Give it plenty of bounce and let the top roll off a bit.
  13. You are wearing me out dude. If a cable is bright (a lot of silver cables), for example, you wont want to add it to a system that is already too bright. In that case you might want to add a cable that is a tad warmer. By evaluating cables on a number of systems you can get an idea of the cables overall characteristics. There is no way to do this without extensive listening tests using systems that you know. At that point you will hear some inherent characteristics or you wont. If all cables sound the same to you, your search is over. Your system either can't resolve the changes, you can't resolve the changes, or it makes no impact on your system. It's no different than evaluating any other piece of audio gear. You plug it in to your system and you give it a listen. The result is: it's better, it's worse, it's the same, or it's different (neither better or worse). If you have found something you like, your search is finished...until you try something that is better. There are no shortcuts, you try stuff and you make an evaluation.
  14. I tried a couple that an audiophile friend said "Were Great" and they sounded the same as my OFC Copper ones. How do you know which ones to evaluate? What do you look for? Solid core copper or stranded? I don't judge a cable until I hear it on a number of systems and/or locations. I use Stranded.... So, what is the Best cable you have found so far? Can't answer, best is the best that works with one particular set-up.
  15. If you have enough of the pieces you can glue that all together and then make a silicone female mold. Then you can pour neat resin into the silicone mold. If you want to get fancy you can put in some discontinuous fibers for a stronger part.

  17. I have an amp that needs this cure but I have never found a solution. I've tried a few fans and I hear every one. Perhaps if you float we can dispel this witch thing....
  18. Yeah, but does it tweet or almost tweet?
  19. By listening evaluations. So, do you buy every cable on the market and listen to them all? Seems like it. I have evaluated about 2 dozen different, speaker cables and interconnects. And you?
  20. Is Mullard Russian? I bought them regularly in the '50s -- now I probably need to go through the Freedom of Information Act to see if I was listed as a Commie. Mullard re-issues, not original Mullards.
