  1. Michael......it seems to be a circle of life in the world of rock and roll.....a reincarnation of a band started with Bonham., maybe a tribute to an old friend? Who knows... and my young son just turned 22... so goes time, We have seen quite a lot in the past ten years , from Creed to Qzzfest in 2003....along with Metallica to Tool.......also the mess of being soaked by gore at GWAR.....as the Dead so aptly put it "what a long strange trip it's been".........in the end I have memories now, my son can carry them on later..............steve
  2. Money is tight....... it is getting hard to justify going to a concert when you have an electric bill hit $400.00{which mine did last month}......That being said I took my son to see Robert Plant last night in Little Rock at the 2nd show of his current tour and it was one of the best shows I have seen in years. Two tickets with all the charges and fees were around $175, but they were very good{10 rows back about 12 seats off center} and I was lucky to have bought them as a birthday gift to myself in June, my son just reaped the benefit of a free show because my wife had to work. At 61 Robert Plant still has very strong vocals and by keeping the range down just a little his vocals were as good as any I can recall, he also surrounded himself with a very tight group that not only could play but also carry out 3 and 4 part harmony which even boosted Plants singing to a very high level. The set list was excellent and included new songs, some of Plants solo work from the past and also four Led Zep tunes which may rotate at different shows. Last night they did....Rock n Roll...Houses of the Holy...Gallows Pole.... and Over the Hills and Far Away[which was super} I appreciate that a lot of fans want a Zep reunion.....but it seems like Plants use of different styles of music and the harmonies which this version of The Band of Joy puts out there is so enjoyable you have to appreciate the end result. You would find it hard to imagine but some of the remakes of Zep tunes with pedal steel guitar sound so good that I like them as much as the originals......and I am 55....so I remember when Zep I and II were originally released, Also as a side note my son knew that Mr. J Page was the Guitar player for Led Zep when he was three...I was always proud of that fact, plus it was always funny when he would ask people if they knew who Page was and then give them the answer in his next breath....... Money is tight.....so I shy away from saying YOU MUST SEE THE BAND OF JOY.....that being said if you like Robert Plant and tight vocals, and have some cash rat holed back which is not for your mortgage or light bill ....YOU MUST SEE THE BAND OF JOY..........steve
  3. Trey & Amy........ I didn't specify a tour session, but due to work I will have to make it Saturday morning.....hopefully with my son! Trey, it has been way too long since I've seen you and I am really looking forward to next Saturday in Hope. See ya soon............Steve
  4. my oldest brother was born June 19,1950----the 2nd was December 12.1953----and I was born June 18, !955......2 1/2 years between each of us.....one big memory was shacking hands with Hoss from Bonanza at the Arkansas State Fair I know he was a pretty big guy....but this was probably 1960 0r '61 and he seemed to be 8 feet tall. another biggie was gas at around 19 cents a gallon...we would go cash in coke bottles for my oldest brother to put gas in his 64 VW bug and he would drive us around town, we were pretty cool to be able to hang with someone who could drive...........
  5. Daniel.....I got with Trey and he basically said the only LaScala shortcoming was with the LF and I have a sub to take care of that....It's really funny because one of his lines pretty much mirrors your last statement. Trey said, what it all comes down to is try it any way you want...if you like it use it! So I am going to play around, and if I don't care for what I come up with I may just save it for a DIY project in the future. Thanks all..........Steve
  6. Thanks for the advice...I am looking onto some L-pads and other options but unfortunately work is going to keep me away from doing anything till probably next weekend...once again thanks for the comments..........Steve
  7. Thanks it would be great to see in person......actually it would be just as good to see your shop.....my wife and in-laws had an antique business for over 30 years and I used to help in refinishing furniture in the 80's and 90's....you do amazing work.
  8. The LaScala II----- HF and LF cabs are fully enclosed...they have binding post or speaker terminals(whatever you want to call them) like you would find on the back of a Heresy or Cornwall, which is where the speaker wires connect from your amp. This is where you connect the speaker wire from the TL16 H, this was suggested in the review of the LaScala II found under the review section on the main Klipsch website. To be honest I have never opened up the backs of my speakers....they are only a couple of years old, have the factory crossovers and I'm not really curious enough to see what the crossovers are...I just know the HF is set at 4500Hz and have read that the TL16 H does not kick in until 7000Hz......and they all seem to work together and make a very nice sound......I am probably the least technical person on the forum so I really can't give a technical response...it's all "magical sound flowing through the air and ending up in my ears".
  9. I am using a HK-AVR, and just hooked the Tweeter to the binding post of the LaScala...everything is stock LaScala II and it just kicks in on the higher end of the frequency...sounds great
  10. they look pretty good. I'll take a few shots and have my son post them for me this evening......my set up is in our main living area, but my wife is cool with it...her only comment after hearing some music was "does it sound better to you" I answered they were worth every penny and the sound was crisp and wonderful.....Her reply "then we live in a happy home, but let's leave it with new tweeters only" I have to admit my sweet other half was not as impressed as I. We will be married 30 years in April so thank goodness she pretty much goes with the flow!!!!!!!
  11. The company that made the ones I bought is located in Germany and has a good reputation for high end components.....I paid $169 each on sale, it looks like retail goes from $230 to $280 each.and they hook up just as you describe......they are a horn tweeter and are very compatible with Klipsch. In fact the reason I considered this specific tweeter was the review of the LaScala II found on the Klipsch website.......the TL16 H was mentioned and got me looking into the subject of a higher output tweeter......Radio Shack tweeters may blow, I don't think you have to worry about this model crapping out (I hope).
  12. I will be 55 in June.....it is amazing what you can hear on various recordings.... Teen Town by Weather Report is really great....I have been playing various cuts...everything from Amy Winehouse to Lou Reed......Tool......Johnny Cash....anything with lots of cymbals and snare pops! I have done plenty of live venues to damage my hearing over the years but things still sound great...I have already talked to my son(21).....He can't wait to get off work at 10 tonight to check out the new toys...
  13. I just hooked up a Visaton TL 16 H horn tweeter to my LaScala II's and need some warm words from Forum members.........I think they sound great, but after spending $350 I hope some one can give some feedback on these or some other high range tweeters they may have tried.... I knew that I would be getting them today so I listened to The Beach Boys Pet Sounds last night on DVD Audio.....after hooking up the new tweeters I really feel there is a marked improvement in sound....they seem to bring out great background fills......this was also very evident listing to Steely Dan's Aja... Any comments would be appreciated............... Thanks ......Steve
  14. Russ.......I talked to a good friend about the availability of fish tacos in Central Arkansas(he has been to the west coast quite often). He swears I would appreciate the experience, the only tacos readily available are seasoned ground beef or a shredded beef..... my new quest is a search for the allusive fish taco......Cheese dip flows like water.....fish tacos on the other hand is a real quest!!!!!!!! Take care.........Steve
  15. Russ.... people eat and enjoy what is most familiar...and although i mentioned velvetta cheese dip, a white cheese dip is also good....I work for Frito Lay and even if I do not care for it , we sell tons of cheese dip in a can in several different types.......I guess the market decides if a product is acceptable. I have been told by many that fish tacos are great....I will never know because I like my fish deep fried and not wrapped in a tortilla.....once again having never been exposed to fish tacos the idea just does not turn me on..... Tex-Mex and any southern style is probably as far from true Mex as I could imagine.......but so the world turns............ Steve (very much a gringo) Hollowell .........Have a Blessed Day!
  16. Dee........what a hoot........I live about a block from John and I am married to his niece, Michelle. John had mentioned seeing you and Mary Ann Ghee last year at a church meeting. I trust all is well with you and yours, by the way to move back toward the subject matter Rotel and Velvetta rule!!!!!!!! Steve
  17. Dee.....this is off the cheese dip subject, but if you grew up in Park Hill you had to go to PH Elementary School. I went there in the mid 60's and then Ridge Road Jr. High..........ah memory lane and a much simpler time....
  18. Due to space issues and the need for an adequate center channel I took the plunge for an RC-64......this was after Trey Cannon hooked one up with his LS II's and felt like it would be a good alternative for my situation......... I use LS II's up front and Heresy III's in the back and even used a Heresy as a comparison to the RC-64(even though a Heresy wouldn't fit in my space). Honestly, to my ears I think the 64 sounds as good as the Heresy........I guess I am just not a true audiophile............. Sure it may not be perfect, but you do the best you can and I think the end result is pretty darn good....... ...............Steve
  19. bhendrix...pics are finally up...your '79 Heresys and then some this link should take you to some pictures which include Heresys on some bose 901 stands.... they actually work very well.... Steve
  20. Islander......that was the best part because it was so far out....only a small percentage of television was in color(for those that actually had a color tv) and most records were bought in mono....even though stereo pressings were also available. I suppose that is why at 54 it still has such an imprint on my memory......... As a side note I own a Les Paul Custom Shop and Marshall half stack, I don,t play worth a flip, but I look good when I try! LOL..in a big way!
  21. As a young kid, probably around eight years, I saw Les Paul and Mary Ford play a show.....the greatest thing about the performance was during one song he would play a riff, record it off stage then replay that part and add another, then another and another.....it evenyually sounded like Les had six or seven guitars playing at one time.....this was around 1962-63 so with the technology at that time you can not imagine what an impact this had on me. When I heard of his passing the picture of Les and Mary shot in my mind like yesterday.....by the way Mary Ford could play the heck out of the guitar also, and that was also pretty amazing......... Steve
  22. Trey............it's been a while since I have made it to to the general section of the forum......What a blow! Dude, you are family and I love ya......of course my thoughts and pyayers are with you and yours. Michelle and I have been together for 29 years now........our only really close call came about four years ago.......fortunately we talked it out and she went to her gyn........she started hormone patches and the difference was night and day....... Trey, once she got balanced she decided I was not quite as big an a-hole.............just enough that she could tollerate........ Man..........all good karma......and love.... ....................................................................................................Steve
