  1. Ray- Sounds good. I am about 10 miles off I-84 at Exit 7. Maybe after the holidays we can do a "home and away" listening campaign. It's been so long since I have heard LaScalas, and would like to learn a bit more about them, especially the ALK crossovers. Let's try and make some time. Not sure if I want to catch the upgrade bug again. I was "this close" to bidding on the pair of OO Chorus IIs last night. They went for $500!!! The seller was in Colorado Springs and I will be in Denver for Xmas...mmm what a present. However, I would still have to get them here. But what a deal! I saw some pics and they were in great shape. I just don't have a place to put them right now. Maybe I am not a true Klipschaholic...I didn't buy speakers hoping to use them somewhere. Besides, the WAF might have been hard to explain. It would have been great. Move the Forte IIs to surrounds, and Chorus IIs up front. WOW!
  2. Steve- Got the upgrade bug again?? Thought you would be happy for a while. Best of luck! Rob
  3. Audio- Congrats! You got a great price. You will have to let us know how it looks once you hook it up. The speaker should do great with Cornwalls.
  4. Miles- If you want to look at older speakers, you should give the KG 1.2/1.5 or 2.5s a listen. I have two pair of the 1.2s as part of my 7-ch HT and they do great, both with movies and music.
  5. Add one in CT to the mix...I have Forte II-based with 2 pr of KG 1.2 and a KV-4. Might be nice to have someone to roll their eyes appreciatively, rather than just the "tsk" I get now.
  6. Mike- I had asked for pics on the Fortes, but he didn't have any. Made me concerned not to see them. But, someone got a good deal on the Academy. Besides, even if there are a few minor scratches, it will be up on the TV, so probably not too noticable.
  7. Yeah, the AZ win was pretty impressive. I thought the Wake game was closer than it needed to be, especially with the 50% FT percentage. Uggh, almost as bad as Shaq. Well, here is to practice from the foul line. Yeah, I saw the new football coach at the Wake game. He is kinda large, but sounds like he could turn around the program. We certainly need it. Tell your tiger G/F that old Norm Stewart needs a new comb-over.
  8. Val- Sounds good. You'll have to let us know. I certainly love my Forte's in Oiled Oak and would want anything else to match up with those. Cool that they are close enough to drive and check out. At least that would save on shipping. Best of luck.
  9. Boa- OK, thanks for the heads-up. I'll try that sometime when I have a few hours. Granted, it won't be blind either, but hopefully I'll be able to tell a difference. Congrats to the 'clones on the win last night. Nice to be in a sports season where I can root for the home team.
  10. So....who picked this beauty up? Using the "Buy it now" was a great deal! If it wasn't so close to Xmas, I'd have thought about bidding on that one myself, but it would have been nice to have some pics. Any luck Mike?

    pick one!

h2x- While I keep hearing great things about SVS, I can't comment specificially on their product. However, I do have the PW2200 and I love it. Of course, I might love the SVS more, but as they say, "If you can't be with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with." Seriously, that sub keeps up great with my Forte II-based 7ch HT system in both music and HT. You won't be disappointed with the Paradigm.
  12. Danart- The Matrix does not have DTS coding, only the DD. Not sure about Shrek. I don't know much about your receiver or DVD, but I assume at least one of them can support DTS encoding? I don't know why you would only be getting from the front trio and sub. Max- Don't worry, we were all newbies at one time. There are lots of debates as to which is better, DD vs. DTS. DTS has less compression, so, theoretically, it should be a better format. However, that doesn't take into account the actual recording. I haven't tried a DD vs. DTS faceoff yet. U-571 has both, so someday when I have time, I'll check it out.
  13. Uh, yeah, what Shapeshifter said. And Edster. And even lynnm, though he might not hear me through the bomb shelter door. Good luck on your purchase...would be tough to decide between Chorus and Forte. I chose the latter in Oiled Oak.
  14. Since Mike complimented me on another topic, I'll do the same for him here. I have the Forte II in front with two pair of KG 1.2s as surround/rears. Those do quite fine, but if you have the room, then sure, get the Chorus-es (Chori?). In fact, you could put those up front and then move the Quartet's to the rear and rock hard! Or, get a second pair of Quartet's as doug suggested and then you could have both front/rear center speakers!! As far as a sub goes, realistically, any of the three, Quartet/Forte/Chorus don't NEED a sub. When I bought my Fortes, I listened to all three. I think the Fortes beat the Quartets in bass department, but not by much. I think the Forte/Chorus were pretty close, and while I would love to have bought the Chorus, they were too much cash at the time, so I "settled" for the Fortes. About a year ago, I added a PW2200 sub and really enjoy how that adds to the HT experience. It adds some to music as well, but mainly to really low LFE. The sub keeps up pretty good with music and is quite powerful for explosions, etc. Chorus will not overpower your room. My system does quite fine in a larger room. I have the Denon AVR4800/POA5200 combo and really love how that does. Heard good things about Marantz, but will stick with Denon. Realistically, you would be able to get by with that 75W, but if you have more headroom, why not. Good luck.
  15. Val- You'll have to let us know how it turns out. NJ is pretty close to MA, and CT for that matter. I think my wife wouldn't understand bringing a pair of Chorus IIs into the house, but I might be able to "sneak" them in. jhawk
  16. Mike- If you ever decide to get rid of those Chorus IIs, please let me know. I have a pair of Forte IIs and two pair KG 1.2s in oiled oak. Might have to "sacrifice" the Forte's to the surrounds to bring in the Chorus. Would be a tough one since the Forte's have been incredible. Not sure how shipping would go, but cross that bridge when it comes. jhawk
  17. Forte Lover: I'll second what PhilH said about having Fortes as surrounds. I would love to try that, but I don't have enough room to make that happen. Instead, I "make do" with two pair of KG 1.2s as surround/back center speakers. While not as powerful as the Fortes, they do an excellent job and much in smaller space. I had a KV-3 as my center and thought that did very well, and recently upgraded to a KV-4, a noticable (positive) change. I really like that speaker, but keep hearing wonderful things about the Academy. Maybe someday I will hear that speaker and catch the upgrade bug again. Good luck
  18. Miles- I don't have the RB-5, but I certainly like the PW2200 with my Forte IIs as part of my 7-ch HT system. It keeps up great, both musically and slam factor for HT. You can't go wrong with that sub in it's price range, $700-800.
  19. Max- I'll throw my $0.02 in with Stu on the Paradigm PW2200. I have one matched up with my Forte IIs as part of a 7-ch system and it does very well, both musically and for HT punch. I am sure SVS would be good too, I just haven't broken down to try them. Looking forward to hearing the new Klipsch Reference subs. As far as break-in...I don't think mine took anywhere near 4 months. I bought mine new in California and the salesman ran it for about 2-3 days in their reference room to break it in for me. Hooked it up and loved it ever since. This message has been edited by jhawk92 on 11-29-2001 at 03:42 PM
  20. Ray- Hope all things are well this morning up in Oxford now that us "rural" folks have gotten involved in the anthrax thing. Keep your head down in the turns! Rob

  22. Come on folks...those who went on the first pilgrimage pass along a bit of info so we might start setting up a second visit...pvt or email me if you need. Rob
  23. FWIW, I bought my Denon POA 5200 from Sound Distributors in Las Vegas via the web. They beat retail by quite a bit and service was fine. They have the 3802 for $795! They have great feedback on the Audio Survey website that Belial mentioned. Good luck.
  24. I seem to remember the first pilgrimage was around President's Day last (this) year. Is that a good time for people, either pilgrims or Klipsch folks? Is the plan for 1-2 days worth of tour? Any recommendations from the first tour that would help a second gathering? Pass some info along and maybe we can get another trip working.
  25. Me too! I was hoping we'd get some response from the Klipsch folks as to when a good weekend would be, since BobG mentioned they would need some lead time. Maybe keeping this topic up high would help that!
