  1. Last one for now. Not too bad for a 1st attempt. The shadows from the room and light from the windows create a photography nightmare.
  2. 2nd The light from the window washed out the photo.
  3. Sort of finished. I got logos today but I still need the grill cloth. There was no veneer on the outside edges. Photographing them is a pain. Uneven lighting and camera flash was the wood out. They are reassembled but I don't have a spare receiver to test them.
  4. It looks great! Will the 64 miss the vent?
  5. Sign bad luck today! I worked over at mom and dad's today for a few hours in almost 90 degree heat. I came home kept working (cutting grass etc.) I was sanding the last speaker down and took it to the basement to vaccum the dust off. Well the Shop Vac left black streaks all over the cabinet so I sanded it down a little more. Well while moving the speaker cabinet I tripped and fell. I know that Klipsch builds some really sturdy stuff. The bottom read corner is smashed in but the veneer didn't break nor chip. It took 180 plus lbs on it and just mashed in. Nothing I can do about it. I stained the bases this evening 2 coats. Not sure when I will get to the cabinets. The stain really brings out the good and bad. But if you look at what I started with this isn't too bad. Pics coming soon.
  6. Well there was a story in the paper here this week (I can't find a link to the article) and I'm not sure if it's local or national but it was about someone high on PCP and they bit a childs eye out and when the police showed up to arrest them they found this person in their yard with a hatchet in their wheelchair trying to cut their feet off. It is a sick world. I only hope there is a special place in hell for people that are guilty of stuff like this.
  7. Slow but ok. I have the risers sanded and I painted the faceboards black as well as the part the grill cloth attached to. 3 coats of black on each one. 1 speaker is ready to be stained as well as the risers. 1 speaker needs to be sanded. I had to try and patch the damage where the veneer was chipped. With luck tomorrow I will sand it. I need to go over to mom and dads tomorrow and help them with some stuff plus yard work at my place. Aging parents you know. I ordered Klipsch logos today the Superman kind according to Klipsch Parts dept (Jubilee style). Dad says they are looking good but I can see every mistake I have made. The orbital sander sure ate into one edge piece but from straight one you can't see it. The bottoms were never finished and I have decided not to mess with the backs because I want to keep the stickers looking as good as possible and I don't want to mess with the speaker terminals since they appear to either be glued on or placed back on when the finish was wet. I must say I am impressed how Klipsch wired and labeled the crossovers. I traded in my Minwax stuff in for Watco oil Dark Walnut. I hope tomorrow to try and put finish on the stands. Yep they are the trial pieces. I have pics of speaker pieces upstairs waiting to be uploaded. Maybe tomorrow I can take some more and upload them. Thanks for asking!
  8. I use an Onkyo 606 for my home theater. Not the answer you want i am sure. BTW I love my RB 61's.
  9. If I stain the backs how do I protect the inspection stickers?
  10. Well I finally got all the sandpaper and decided on the Watco stain in Dark Walnut. Now all I need is the grill cloth and I did receive a sample from my first choice and it looks great not to mention logos from Klipsch. I did FINALLY get to disassemble them and now they are ready for sanding. Man are there a lot of screws in these things. I promise pics will come soon..
  11. Hmmm I still get that way when I listen to Time by Pink Floyd.
  12. Looks great! What kind of stain are you using?
  13. Sweet snag! Stick around these folks are pretty nice.
  14. Sweet find on that turntable. Could you please give us a photo of the "new twist" on the flexy rack?
  15. I am going to leave them as they are (the X-overs). I will post some pics when I get started on them. I have a sample coming of the grill cloth I want.
  16. For anyone that has wondered about Bob C. He responded to my email in less than 12 hours and is very informative. He offered to sell me what I needed to do the job myself or told me how much they would charge to do it and included shipping. I am still thinking about his offer only because I have spent almost all of my minute budget. I underestimated the cost. If I could solder worth a lick I would get the parts and do it myself. Anyway I just wanted to say that Bob is really nice and fast with his response.
  17. Sorry guys but I am a whimp. I believe in the sedation or numbing. A few years ago I had a Crown placed on my tooth and the next morning it came off. I went back to the dentist office to have it put back in place and it was really sensitive. Ok I'll be honest it hurt me like a mother scooter. On the way home I boiught a 6 pack of Icehouse (cheap and 5.5% alcohol) I chugged them in about 20 minutes and soon went to sleep thereafter. I woke up the next morning ready to go. Good luck with the dental work!
  18. Thanks jamesV Are you going to re-work the x-overs? This would be the best time to do so. I have no idea how to do that or what that would entail or cost. Your ahead of me now. Care to elighten me or point me toward a post so I can read about it?
  19. Project was delayed a little because of mothers illness but she is fine know. Ok I almost have everything for the project except grill cloth and emblems and glue. Grill cloth is becoming a problem since my first option fell through. I have my dad searching his storage shed for 180 grit 5 inch 5 hole sandpaper for him random orbital sander. I may have to hand sand that one and use the sander on the 120 and 220. There was no dust on the iside when I open 1 speaker up. Good sign I guess. Anyway I have a question or 12 so here goes. I know I need to remove the speakers guts, woofer, midrange, tweeter etc. Should I disconnect the wires that go to each cpeaker or should I leave those attached and just disconnect them from the crossover? I'm calling the block in the speaker where everything is connected the crossover (no idea if that is right). Also, I am assuming that the crossover should be removed as well. It appears that there are 2 screws that hold it to the cabinet. If I remore those 2 screws will that block come right out? I wrote down how all the wires are connected to that block. I know that sounds stupid but this is my first time doing this. Is there anything else I should know or do before proceeding? On the woofer it says 22K, midrange K52H and tweeter K77M. You know you can tell when a company takes pride in what they do. Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
  20. Well I use 75db and run the sub and center channel a little higher than that.
  21. Thanks for all the info and tips. Right now I need to pick up some stainable filler from Minwax. I think I will try that since I have small areas. The cats are loving my procrastination. They are using them as perches well except for the one cat who keeps sticking her paw in the horn. Soon to be dead kitty if she doesn't quit. I may try to sand them this weekend. It is supposed to be pretty so I can work on the deck maybe. I am quickly losing my nerve in regards to this job since I have never done anything like this. I guess I need some filler and tack cloth and sanding pads for the random orbital sander. No idea what else. How do you detach the old grill cloth from the frame? What type of flat black paint should be used or does it matter? Eventually I want to get a stereo receiver but I have no idea what to get without breaking the bank. I have seen some cool ones from the 70's like Sansui and Kenwood that have the needles and everything or should I go more modern since it will be used with a laptop and IPod? I have no idea where to even shop for this stuff. Too many questions sorry about that. I like to have a plan of action. It's late I'm tired and rambling now. I was thinking about a walnut stain and I cant decide between a satin finish or gloss finish on the outside. I may need a support group for this! I'll keep you all updated on my adventure.
  22. Yep I think I got the better end of the trade. My next step is to break them down and refinish the cabinet and grill cloth so opening them up is no problem. Just need time and guts. After that I need to find a receiver to power them. No idea what I will get.
  23. Last one this may sound stupid but which side of the terminals should be black and red?
