MAS, It is not so much the "fundamental design" which lends the Mac less vunerable to virus attacks, it is that they don't have enough machines out there to make it worthwhile. And lets not forget, the real target is Windows and Bill Gates. I am not bias either way. I use both PCs and Macs at work. Both are a pain in the *** when they have problems, and both do!

Next time your in Home Depot or Lowes, look at the price difference between MDF and veneer faced plywood. MDF is about 1/2 the cost. I don't have the article, but one DIY speaker builder built two pair. One out of MDF, the other out of plywood. He said there was no difference in sound quality, but that MDF is very unforgiving with screws, banging a corner, etc. And don't even get it wet.

I'm miffed. Why would one pay $3600 for a pair of speakers made out of MDF, when they can but the originals (plywood) for $1500 or less per pair? The only reason a speaker manufacture uses MDF, is to cut cost!

Interesting. I have a post up regarding the Chinese mfg Dared. They are supposed to make units for several major people Sanyo, Sansui, the Fatman, etc. Check out the link, it looks like they make the amp you are inquiring about.

Well, there are other mfgs. I ordered material from Wendell, (not the black, but a woven cane looking fabric), and it came promptly. The only catch was you had to order a 3 yard minimum. Not a problem, as I have 1 pair of Corwalls, and 3 pair of Herseys. Another source is Acoustone corp in Brooklyn. Web site is acoustonegrillecloth.com If you ask nicely, they will send you a folder with swatches. Wendell did as well. Good luck!

Mike, he was out of town for a week. I was going to buy them, but I had unexpected surgery and can't drive for 6 weeks, etc. My impression of him based on emails is that he is a straight up guy. He answered my numerous emails promptly, and with complete answers. I have not met him or seen the speakers, but I would keep trying. Hope this helps.

As a newbie, I am not as versed as many found on the forums. I am looking for a beginning spot for tube amps. Does one have to have a preamp as well? Where does one begin? I see amps over $10,000 and I think of Bob Crites definition of an audiophile! I have a turntable, a cheap CD player, an integrated Marantz stereo receiver from the 70's, and Cornwalls. I think this sound is awesome. How much is a decent tube amp, etc.? Thanks in advance for your input.

I would have to ditto DeanG. There is a wealth on information on headphones in general, plus they have every product under the sun. I have bought three pairs of headphones from them at different times. They emailed me on one pair and said it was on backorder for a month. There is a guy who sells vintage Marantz on eBay who is honest and knowledgeable. His seller name is Morgan. In addition, there is a site classicaudio.com. They will be more expensive, but might have additional sources. For my money, I would check with Morgan.

First, let me admit that I have never heard a pair of La Scalas, but I do own Cornwalls and Herseys. Are the LaScalas really that much better than the Cornwalls? In addition, what would a nice pair of vintage LaScalas be worth? Thank you for your input!

Yes mas, it probably has gotten complicated. A senior tech from KLipsch emailed me some specifics on the Hersey in the picture . They were a commercial speaker. The edges were rounded and they had a facia over the motor board which made it flush with the sides. At any rate, I would probably just buy already fabricated grilles sold by parts supply houses. However, I saved your info for future reference, and I appreciate your help and input.

What I meant was that I am only interested in two speaker grilles, and I assume that would not be worth their while. In order to fabricate a product, you need an order many.
