I've actualy found a guy locally who has both a pair of Forte I's with crites x-overs, and Corwalls with Crites x-overs and upgraded midrange and tweeter... anyone have experience with these upgrades? I'll probably go hear those soon -tim

The backs are closed actually. It's not about the corner placement it's about their distance apart relative to their relation to the listening area as well as their over all size. So how about the 2 (3) speakers I mentioned?

Ok so I have a pair of speaker lab K-horn clones with an upgraded tweeter. I'm in love with the sound. It looks like the apartment I'm moving into will not allow for the placement of the k-horns so they may have to go into storage for a couple of years. I'll be needing to find replacements for the interim and I won't be spending a lot of money. I know that ill be making (necessary) compromises, just trying to minimize those. The k-horns are the only heritage speakers I've heard and I love them obviously. I have not liked any of the modern klipsch speakers I've heard. I've heard and sold the reference series and the sound doesn't appeal to me at all. With all that said I have several very reasonably priced Hersey's and forte's available. Given what I'm used to and my preference for the heritage sound and dislike for the reference sound which one will I likely be pleased with? The Hersey's will be paired with an avs 20-39. Will I lose a lot of dynamics with these smaller speakers? The forte's I assume will be more dynamic but is their sonic signature more akin to the reference or heritage sound? IF I could find a pair of chorus or Cornwalls where would those fit? Thanks in advance for the advice! -Tim

The serial # on a pair of Heresy II H-BRs I found is 8656388, what can I tell from that #? These are an excellent deal, I just want to find out as much as I can about them before I pull the trigger. Thanks as always! -tim

I purchased a pair of Speakerlab SKs from a member here a few months ago. I have been thrilled with them. Mine have the upgraded EV T-350 tweeter so I can't comment on how the top end of yours would sound, but mine are amazingly detailed and not bright at all. I would say that the bass is also impressive. Mine originally came with the tweeter oriented vertically beside the horn, so I redesigned the top cabs to mirror the K-horn configuration. Long story short, I couldn't be happier with my choice. I knew going in that the x-overs were the weak link, but I'll be converting these to active x-overs soon enough. I think I got a steal on my pair, but I didn't get them for $100. Jump all over those at that price. If you hate them then you could chop them up and still not have wasted very much Get them home and enjoy! Oh, here's a link to a thread detailing my find at S&V forums. LINK -tim

No HD disks are limiting resolution from component output yet. You will find that through component your player won't upscale regular DVDs, but you will have no problem playing the HD Disks with the 1080i output. I'm not aware of any studios that have expressed any intention to do so at this point. However, I really don't see any point in getting an A20. The A2 will do everything the 20 will, and even if someone has a 1080p set that will take a 1080p signal, most TVs will de-interlace that signal pretty much perfectly. -tim

Wow, fine is not even the word for it! These things are amazing. Thanks so much to Wayne and Charles for helping me get these in my house. You guys don't know a lot about me, but I work in a/v sales and have heard a good majority of what is on the market today. I've also been saving for a few years to buy a set of speakers in the $10K retail class (at cost though). This buy was more of a "let's see" kind of thing just to see what kind of bang for your buck could be had from buying a unique vintage pair of Klipsch speakers. Well I've seen, or heard, and I'm a believer. There is no going back from Horn speakers now. Their presentation is so huge, life like, detailed, dynamic, and transparent. I can only compare the dynamics of these speakers to something like the Wilson Alexandrias in the $180K price range. They have the transparency and image placement of the best electrostats. They separate themselves, however, in their ability to bring life to instruments and vocals. When a cymbal is struck it continues to ring and extend into the room. When I piano is played it reverberates into the listening space. Guitars have lifelike size and character. There is height to the sound stage that fools you into thinking that the performers are really their. The bass coming from a folded horn cabinet is truly unique in how tight, punchy, and accurate it is. I'm sorry for telling you guys what you already know, but it's new to me! I can't imagine myself being any happier with any of the $10K speakers I've auditioned over the past couple of years, and I've only scratched the surface with these things. As soon as I sell my current speakers I'll be buying some tube amps, and the gear to run True RTA so I can really dial these things in. Then when I get brave, I'll be setting these up with an active x-over system. It's almost scary to think what type of performance my system will be capable of at that point. Once again thanks to all who have helped me over the past couple of weeks. Big thanks to Charles for giving me the heads up on these, I'm only sorry I got too late of a start today to stop by to meet you and enjoy your system. Hey all, thanks for all the help you have provided me over the last couple of weeks. I'm on my way to Wayne's place now to pick up my new (to me) Speakerlab K-horns. I've got 3+ hours of driving ahead of me each way, but I can't wait to get these things set up! Thanks to Wayne for being great so far, and big thanks to Charles for putting me on to this deal. Once I set up the new speakers I plan on running a phantom center, and I'm not worried about the rear channels matching terribly. I will upgrade the center sometime soon. I may get a Heresy temporarily until I can either get help designing something custom to match the mains, or maybe find a split La Scala that I can run with. I will be looking at another tube amp at that time. I'm also eventually going to go with active x-overs as well at some point in the near future. This pair of tube amps is just a start. So with all that said, what other specific recommendations in the sub $1K category? -tim

Sorry guys, let me help a little more. These speakers will be used in a surround sound system that places great emphasis on 2-channel music. The reason I'm not looking for an integrated is because they will be connected to a Parasound Halo C2 processor. I listen to pretty much all types of music, and watch a fair amount of movies. I'm looking for something that will provide descent output, is pretty flat so I don't have to worry about what type of music, and if possible something for under $1,000 for the 2 channels needed. -tim

I've never owned a tube amp, but now that I will own horns I should . I'm looking for a stereo tube amp (not integrated) or a pair of monos to power my new Speakerlab K-horns. I want to start with something inexpensive. Does anyone have any recommendations? -tim

Yeah, I've decided against these. The guy was very unpleasant to deal with, and is in some serious denial about what these speakers are. I never told him about this forum, or you specifically (gigbyt), he just mentioned a guy who was looking to sell his Heresys. He never came out and told me about the serial #s even though I repeatedly asked him to look (and he knew where they were!). Also, I offered to bring gear to hook them up to, and still he refused. Over all I think he will be lucky to sell them at all with his attitude, never mind at his price. On a positive note, if you read in my other thread I have decided to purchase a pair of Speakerlab K-horns from a guy in VT. Should be going to pick them up next week. -tim

Thanks for all who have offered help to me, this really seems like a great place. It looks like I'll be picking up the Speaker Lab K-horns. At the price I just can't see a reason not to give them a shot. Due to travel and transportation issues it looks like I won't pick them up until next week. In these Soundlab K-horns does anyone know what the x-over frequency is between the MF horn and the bass bins? -tim
