  1. I want to say that I am extremely pleased with how well my HK AVR55 drives the towers. Even with only 55 watts/ch they sound amazing and can get as loud as you need them to be. Very clean, solid power. I can't wait to eventually upgrade to the Parasound 5250 THX Ultra 2 certified at 250 watts x 5. Thats quite an accomplishment having RF-83's as a college student. I'm 32 now. In college, I was BROKE! I had a pair of DCM speakers with a Pioneer Dolby Prologic Receiver. With each having a 12" sub, they would pound out some bass but they absolutely do not compare to my new Klipsch. So hats off to you Jay.
  2. Yeah, I had figured on that. The sub takes care of the lows for me and I'm sure they will sound totally different on the bottom end once I get them into my theater room. I haven't had too much time to demo them due to my son's b-day party today but what I have heard, I cannot stop smiling from ear to ear. They are absolutely crystal clear on the highs. One thing that I REALLY like is since the speakers are sooo tall, the sound totally fills the room when you are sitting in front of them. They are sweet even at high volume and do not break up. So much detail and smoothe sounding. Wish I could describe them more technical but I'm not technical. LOL. I might have my CF-2's and KV-3 sold tomorrow. Guy is very interested in them. If I sell them, I will be ordering my RC-64. That will be sweet.
  3. Congrats on your new setup! I know that I have commented against Sony ES systems with Klipsch. I demoed the RF-82's with the RC-62 (rears and sub I cannot remember which models they had connected) and I just wasn't that impressed with the sound quality. It all looked very nice in the rack, they seemed like they were a good A/V Specialist, I just wasn't wowed by the sound at all. All that really matters is that it sounds good to you and that's awesome that you are happy with your current Sony setup. Will save you money instead of having to buy another one. Enjoy and post some pics.
  4. Thx guys! Yeah, my wife suggested that I wrap them up and wait until we move into our house in December....Yeah right! Just about to fire them up for the first time this morning.
  5. I absolutely love the Cherry finish! The speakers look great in the store, but they look even better when you get them home. [] I have not had a chance to even power them up yet. I brought them home, put them in the garage and didn't get to set them up till late tonight after the kids were in bed. I'll play with them tomorrow. I have the following that I will try out on them: DVD's Transformers Incredibles Cars Blue Man Group Concert Mercy Me Concert Mark Shultz Concert NewSong Concert Music Mark Shultz Live Jeremy Camp Live Sarah McLaughlin
  6. It seems like I have waited forever for these. I have been checking them out over the past 9 months. I tracked them online from Hope, AR to Florida. I picked them up early this evening, loaded them in the van and brought them home. After putting my kids to bed, I brought them in from the garage to set them up. All I can say is WOW! They are absolutely georgeous speakers. I am soooo pumped. I felt like it was Christmas already. My wife just stared and was quite amuzed at my excitement. Here eyes got really big when she saw the size of the boxes that the speakers came in. I know they are tiny compared to some Klipsch lines but they are huge compared to my CF-2's. I took lots of photos to share my excitement with everyone. Photo Gallery Now I've just gotta sell my CF-2 and KV-3 and I can use that money towards my next purchase...the RC-64. Michael
  7. According to this page, the KV-3 fits well with the KG5.5. If you look at the RC-35 page, the KG series is not listed. I don't think they are going to match very well (timber wise or even by appearance). They each use totally different composites (poly cones vs ceramic cones). The settings on the receiver will not be able to fix the timber differences. Since you have already ordered it, you can check it out for yourself to see how they sound together.
  8. Either system would be a great system. As I mentioned in the PM, try to go to your dealer and A/B both of them side by side. If they are not hooked up in the same room, call the dealer ahead of time and tell him what you want to do and see if he can set them both up so that you can compare the two speakers. Let your ears be the judge. If you hear the $170 difference, then I would go with the 82's. If you don't then stick with the 62's. If you want to spend the extra $170 on something, you can always upgrade your sub. Lots of options and I know it can be hair pulling at times. Do your homework, listen to them as much as you can and finally make a wise decision based on the knowledge and experience you have received from it. Let us know what you decide. Michael
  9. I found out the hard way that if you want your player to do the decoding, it must have Multi-channel outputs and the receiver must have Multi-channel inputs. Otherwise, you cannot let the player send the decoded signal via Digital Coax or Toslink if the receiver does not have a decoder.
  10. According to this article, it looks like they wanted to have DVR capabilities too. Couldn't find much online about the next generation PS3 though.
  11. Now that's primo speakers there. Roughly $27,500 for a 7.1 system, $30,000 for a 7.2 setup. Any chance of doing a drawing in the forums for some of these? []
  12. Welcome to the forums! I too have been looking at the Parasound amps but am new to separates. I'm curious to see what others have to say about the differences between the Halo and the Classic versions and their recommendations.
  13. Might be very different but aren't they made by the same company? If so, it wouldn't give me much confidence in their higher end receivers.
  14. Yes, I use my sub in 2 channel as well as for movies. For my room size, the Velodyne 15" is way too much. On the back of the sub, I have the volume at 3 (out of 10) and on the receiver, I have the sub set at -10db. Now it sounds great. As mentioned, it is not noticed until you turn it off. Before, I was constantly wanting to turn to look at the sub because it was up too loud and distracted me from the sound. Now it is dialed in just right.
  15. No. You would be better off using the RS-42's for the sides and the RB-61's for the rear.
  16. 15 years ago when I first got into Home Audio, Sherwood was junk. I believe it is the same company since it has the same logo as they had back then. I'm not familiar with them today but do know that I have not heard anyone here in the forum even mention their brand.
  17. Is it me or do you think two KL-650 THX speakers would fit perfect where the two picture frames are on the front wall? []
  18. I tried to help him visualize his future setup. I had to include Transformers too. []
  19. Thx Colter. [] He is considering using in ceiling speakers since he does not have a back wall. The room goes back a lot further than where he was standing when he took the photo. I suggested for him to consider using either the RS or an RB series speaker on the side walls for surrounds. I think in general, this would yield a better surround effect than in ceiling speakers. I figured it would be more fun and visual for him to be able to see what I was suggesting, even though it was just a rough edit.
  20. I made a quick sketch with Photoshop of your new setup watching Transformers. Before image....
  21. Do the DVD player & the AVR both have to decode dts? From what I have been told here in the forum, no. I could use the DTS decoder in my DVD player if it had Multi-channel outputs and my receiver had multi-channel inputs. For some reason, the DTS decoder in the DVD player cannot send it through digital coax or Toslink to the receiver already decoded.
  22. Tried that too. I have another concert DVD that I can switch from Dolby Digital to Dolby Stereo. The Jeremy Camp DVD must only have one audio encoding. maybe it is DTS. Neither the DVD player nor the receiver has Multi-Channel Outputs so I cannot use the DTS encoder in my DVD player. If it is a DTS issue, I just may have to enjoy the CD for now until I upgrade my receiver.
  23. Sadly enough, none. Only has Play Concert, Song Selection and Extras. Extras just has a music video. No, it is Dolby Digital only. I looked in the CD Jacket and there is no mention of the encoding there either.
  24. Check Monoprice.com . They have great prices and many people here in the forums recommend them. From everything that I have read, for the most part, wire is wire and cables are cables. Don't get caught up in the marketing hype of spending $100 on a 3ft digital coax cable because it says "Monster Cable" on it. When I worked for Circuit City, we pushed Monster Cable big time. We were on commission back then. We made more money when we sold MC as opposed to regular RCA cables. I went to a Monster Cable training seminar put on by reps from Monster Cable. They were educating us why their cables were better than radio shack cables. They brought out a pair of 6ft speaker cables that were about 1 inch in diameter. Looked like braided steel. They retailed for something like $1000/pr. They asked us if we thought they were worth $1000 and if they sounded $1000 better than their $30 speaker cables. Their answer was "We sell them for $1000 because we have customers that are willing to pay that much to have the very best". Bottom line is get a good thick cable. The lower the gauge, the thicker the cable. Check here.
  25. That was one of the first things I checked. Nothing is on the DVD. DD works fine for other dvds. That was a last resort. Sound was not working so since the receiver said PCM, I changed the audio setting on the dvd player from DD to PCM but that didn't work either. Thanks for the suggestions. Anything else you think I could try?
