  1. Well said Dean, thanks for initiatling this!!! Craig, my thoughts are with you and your wife. Tom
  2. This is just for an update and to give Marty (mcp) a big thanks for giving me the opportunity to purchase his Chorus IIs. With aprox. a 4.5 hour drive to get to Marty's, I was soon to realize after arriving it was well worht it, the speakers sounded great and they were a virtual 10 as far as cosmetic condition. Marty was a great guy to meet and is just another fine example of the top shelf forum members that I have had the pleasure to meet in person. Unfortunately with my long drive home ahead of me and an appointment that Mary had, we had to cut our visit a little short but I really enjoyed the time talking hifi and such. Thanks again Marty!
  3. Hey Frank, I how are you doing, I hope all is well... Now get off my lawn []
  4. Hey Kev, I can highly recomment Dan's work at: http://mcintoshcabinets.com/pages/scott.htm Dan made me a cabinet for my Scott 299D (sold it a few years ago) and I was very happy with the craftsmanship... http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/125875/1272507.aspx#1272507
  5. This pretty integrated really does sound nice with Heritage Klipsch and I would have to give the 505 a slight edge over the 930 Receiver as far as sonics go. If it does not sell, I may just run the tuner out of the 930 via record out and then use the amp section on the 505.
  6. Up for sale is a very nice condition hk 505 integrated amp... twin powered hk from the tail end of Harman Kardon's best years. I hesitate to say in mint condition, but it does show very well. Everything sounds and functions as it should. Asking $250.00 * Twin Power Ultrawideband DC True Power Design * High Current Twin Core Power Supply (same kind as used in vintage higher end Marantz - 2285B, etc) * 40000 mF of filter capacitance * Heavy duty metal case TO-3 discreet output transistors * Stable into 4 Ohms * 5 - 150,000 Hertz * 0.03 THD / IMD at full power, typically much less * Preamp / Power amp jacks * 30 lbs * Aux1, Aux2, Tape1, Tape2, Tuner, Phono * Speaker 1, speaker 2; switchable * Tone defeat * Tone controls with tone turnover * Subsonic filter, high cut filter, mono switch * Capacitance phono switch * Balance, volume * Tape copy 1&2, tape monitor 1&2 * Loudness switch * Designed in USA, Made in Japan * Very well built * 120 V, North America version The only reason that I am selling this baby is because I just picked up a truly MINT hk 930 and I need to free up some space. Local sales (Toronto) would be preferred, but I will ship at the buyers expense. Canadian Sale would ship from L3X 1A9… USA Sale would ship from 14305. Auditions are welcome for local buyers. Thanks very much for looking.
  7. Welcome to the forum tswei. My room is similar to yours, just a little bit smaller... 15ft x 20ft. When I was running KHorns I 1st put mine on the short wall and was pretty happy with the way things were sounding. One day I was fine tuning the balance on my pre and as I adjusted it and took a few steps back to listen, I was shocked at how better everything sounded about half way back to my normal listen position. For an experiment I then moved the speakers to the long wall and was blown away by how better thing sounded, the soundstage was huge, with the main subject (voice) dead in the center and the rest of the band filling in all the way to each corner. I would suggest trying both layouts, but I bet that you will appreciate the long wall placement better.
  8. JB, if your wife really wants those uglies out of the house, maybe you should donate them to me so I can try to come up with something like speedysteve has done. If those bloddy drivers were not so expencive, I already would have started.
  9. And for a little more of a risgue look... a nudie shot:
  10. I have always wanted a pair of big Tannoys and after completing my Cornscala build I came across this thread with and absolute fantastic Tannot GRF build: http://www.hifiwigwam.com/showthread.php?31512-DIY-Tannoy-GRF-s JB, if your cabinets are in that rough of a shape, this is what I would suggest!
  11. could be an illusion, looks awefully close to that giant magnet. Air core inductors are easily influenced by magnetic fields. speakerfritz, I think the perspective of the photo is a little deceiving, and yes, that DE-85TN magnet is "man size" [] I was thinking about having the networks mounted outside in their own Xover box but I was anxious to get these things playing music... And a music they are playing []
  12. Here is a quick shot of my Cornscala Xover, nestled in a comfy spot...
  13. I received my new networks from Al on Wednesday and put the finishing touches on my Crornscala build today and I can agree with Dave's comments. I really cannot compare apples to apples as my pair of CS are brand new, but from my memory of my previuos 2 pair of Cornwalls, there is no comparison to the sound that I am hearing in the Cornscalas, expesially in the midrange and up. Thanks to Dave for giving the heads-up on this Xover, andalso to Al for letting me be the 1st kid on the block to play with his new toy!!!
  14. Well mine are not ready yet, but ALK is now taking orders for them. The first set is going out tomorrow. That is how rumors get started Dave [] It should be an excitng day when they arrive [G] [<)]
  15. I will be getting some quilt batting for absorption, but that is a good idea to do some A/B'ing, with and without just to get a feel for the effect that the batting has on the cabinet. I started my Cornscala project with the intentions of following Bob Crites "Style C" plans and using his recommended drivers and his Xovers but have modified things a bit as I have gone along. I use 1" birch and then made the cabinets slightly larger to account for the thicker plywood and to also allow for a little more bracing. Then when GotHover posted about the new network that ALK Engineering has on the go, I gave Al a call and based on both his and Dave's suggestions I decided to go with the new Xover along with the B&C DE-85TN. The DE-85TN is probably a bit overkill for my 3 way build but I figured if I ever wanted to reconfigure as a 2 way, this driver would have me covered due to it's extended upper range compared to the D405 mid driver that Bob's plans called for. I am just waiting on the delivery of Al's new Xovers and the DE-85TNs to be delivered from Al, these will mate with a pair of Bob's CW1526CF woofers, a pair of Selenium HM 11-25 Horns, and a pair of Selenium D220TI Drivers. I got the Grills covered on Monday, so now I am just playing the waiting game.
  16. Yikes, you're gonna need quite a bit of absorption behind that driver to keep the HF content from coming off the back of the woofer and out through the ports. One of those cheap polyfill pillows would probably be sufficient, wrapped around the back of the driver in that space between the ports. Dr, What is your prognosis, will the patient live or should we just pull the plug? That "Yikes" scares me a little since this is my 1st attempt at a speaker build. Cabinet dampening has been a big question in my mind, I know in some designs the fill / dampening can be a great tool in tuning a cabinet. Unfortunately, I do not have much experience or tools to properly analyze and make the adjustments. I posed the dampening question to GotHover and Dave suggested I use some of the poly thick quilt badding (maybe a double layer) to the sides and backs. I am hoping for a pair of the DE-85TNs and the new AKL networks to be showing up late next week, so it will soon be time to see what these boxes are going to do.
  17. PS: Nice to see The BIG Man playing again!
