  1. I use a vintage pioneer sx 727 in my shop with a pair of herseies that has a suprisingly good phono stage. See if you can find one on that ebay thingy.
  2. Bob, Did this ever get this configuration built? I was wondering how it sounded. Peter Bliss EDIT I saw them on your site. How to they measure up the the conscala 1 you are disiussing here? What mid range are you using now that the Pyles are no more?
  3. I have been using a micro benz ace cartridge that sounds great. After everyone raving about the 103s I will have to pick one up. I will be interested to hear your take on the zu vs no zu on your table. Where do you get your belts? I have read that some folks go without the mushrooms (bushings). I can not tell the difference on my table. Have you tried the mushroom free option?
  4. Yep that is the one. I decided to have a look because it was local. Now, one of my kids will have to do with out an xmas present.
  5. I enjoy my onkyo 606. I recently had 5 heresies hooked up for surround and the 606 handled them really well.
  6. Just got a local craigslist listed Thorens td 124. I decided to get it after some research and some motivation from posts here. Especially Fini. I have cleaned it up. Put some fresh oil in and around the important places. I seems to be holding speed. It came with an empire tone arm that needs rewiring. I moved my rega 300 from my td 150 to the td 124. The td 124 is far and away better the the td 150. I am considering the silcone motor mounts Fini suggested. I am also going to need to cut a replacement mirror for the strobe viewer. I also plan to build a plinth and cut an arm board to match. I was thinking that maple would be a good choice for it's resonance qualities. Any thoughts on other woods? I hear alot about sme tone arms with these tables, what have others used? Here is the before picture. The after picture will be posted some time after the cornwalls and the lsi's get new veener.
  7. He did the same thing in New Hampshire. It was a disappointment. I was looking forward hearing his acoustic stuff.
  8. From everything I have found "not highly regarded" is accurate. This one has the detachable head shell and comes with an extra headshell. I will try a bluenote U3 and a mitchell modified rega 250 on it and use whichever sounds best.
  9. A friend recognized the tonearm. It is a empire 980. It was about $50 new in the 60s. Looks like I have another turntable project. Lost of projects but no time. Maybe a birdseye plinth and arm board.
  10. Anyone have any info on the tonearm in the picture? There is an "ae" logo on the headshell.
  11. Guess Who's "No Time" = Back seat of my 1968 Buick Electra 225. Leatherette seats stick to bare skin.
  12. I am still a teenager (47). My wife tells me to grow up all the time. My wife and I have known each other since kindergarten. We hear certain music that transports us all the time. We can name the same events that we recall in association with a specific song. I have three kids (boy 22, girl 19, girl 16). They also seem to have their memories associated with music. The unusual thing is that some of their songs are the same ones that my wife and I listened to at the same ages.
  13. I will give it another go with a test disk. I have the choice of using 2 klipsch ksw10s or a mirage bps 400 for subwoofer duty.
  14. I think my room is just too small. Two many horns in a small place (14'x15')
  15. I have been working on 5 heresy speakers to replace my PSB image 5 channel set up. New tweeter diaphragms, building a center heresy from parts. I finally tried them out and I was disappointed that my PSB set up sounded better in my room. I found that the high end of the heresies could not be balanced even after running the equalization program in my receiver. I think it is mostly a function of the the room layout and size.
  16. I know the treatments in the pics above probably do not meet your decor requirements. A friend of mine got an tapestry as a wall hanging and pined some batting to the back. This solved his room's rear reflection issue.
  17. Here is pic of the other side of the room. Mounted one on the sliding bard door as well.
  18. I had a similar issue the only thing that helped was wall treatments. Especially on the first reflection points on the wall. I have posted a picture of the treatments. I have more pics of the construction if your are interested. A similar design is available from realtraps.com.
  19. I have purchased two pair of image 10s. My son got one set. My set has the slight slits that have been discussed previously. I have slits on the upper side and the bottom side of each wire. The top slits appear to follow a seam from the molding process. The seam is on the top and the bottom of each earphone. They still sound great. I will wait to see if it travels anymore before contacting customer service.
  20. What about Geddy Lee? I saw Rush this year as well and he is right up there on the bass.
  21. Surprisingly good concert. This was their third show. We saw them in a small venue which was great. The sound was good. We sat right in front of the mixing board location. Steve Howe was impressive. There were some sound mix problems that really pissed Steve off. He interrupted one of his acoustical guitar solos because he was not satisfied with the sound. The band was pretty tight. The harmonies were strong with only a few misses. The transitions were good. The new lead singer was not Jon but was still very good. He did not over play the part and his voice probably sounded very much like Anderson. It was not that hard to get by the stigma of imitation and get down to enjoying the music. I would recommend it highly especially if you can see them in a small venue. I think there is good chance they will get even better after a few more shows.
  22. I almost did not buy tickets because Jon was not with them but I thought I would pay to Steve Howe play at least. Any more is a bonus.
  23. I have one of the monoprice units and it worked great. I got a new reciever with enough onboard switching so it is out of service right now. FYI I used with a harmony remote and had no problems
  24. Going to a Yes concert tomorrow night. John Anderson is not playing due to health issues. I am a big Yes fan. I will report back.
