  1. "The $3.4 million theater’s sound system consists of a total of 38 audio zones where sound is heard at optimal levels. Just to get an idea of the cost of this sound system, the least-expensive speakers used were a pair of $2,000 CAT in-wall speakers." $3,400,000 and I can't even see my speakers??[bs] Clearly, I don't understand the motivation. And I don't think at this level it has to do with WAF.... heck, with over 3 mil to spend on my home theater, I'm sure I could buy a wife who wouldn't mind seeing speakers! []
  2. This relates pretty well to the thread about Klipsch allowing internet sales. The Woot phenomenon allows for some interesting observations about how the "average" consumer views not only Klipsch, but audio as a whole. I especially liked how about a dozen people exclaimed how "Ridiculously Overpriced" these speakers were. [] (ignoring the 44% discount) This highlights just how much of an "accessory" high-quality audio is to Joe Shmoe.
  3. Any new observations on this sub? I'm mostly interested in how it would compare to an RW-12D in a 12 x 14" room, to be specific. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
  4. Ouch, I'd almost take that personally if it wasn't so true of almost every OTHER 19 year old salesman at Best Buy (or any big box retailer, for that matter). I can play the devil's advocate and provide some evidence, as well. My "audiophile" co-worker (i.e. has a degree in music) stated to a customer that, although he was going with Klipsch F2s, the Bose VCS-10 center channel would be superior to the Klipsch C2 because: "The Bose center channel has smaller woofers, which better accentuate the details of the human voice." Needless to say, I had a little "WTF" moment with him afterward....
  5. Having heard both of them, I feel qualified to say that if you're looking for pure volume, the two JBL sub 12s will certainly do the trick. The Klipsch sub12 is a *teensy* bit more refined, but two subs are almost always better than one. almost. You might try out the sub12, find it to be perfectly sufficient and never look back. They will predictably blend a little better with the F3s, as well. With that out of the way, I wanted to make a point to appreciate your perfect spelling and grammar. I know it's dumb, but you type better than 90% of 20 year-olds that I know. Just wanted to point that out....
  6. Those speakers are comparitively tiny within the Klipsch range... Has he tried telling her to get over it? [:#]
  7. I pray you are not a hip-hop fan. We don't need any tsunamis here in Pennsylvania!
  8. The differences in the HD-A2 and the A3 are minimal, as the A3 was simply an update to the 720p line of HD-DVD players. If you can find the A-20 or A-30 for similar prices, then you are talking. They will play HD-DVDs and upconvert to 1080p. Having said that, they are not neccesarily automatically "better" than an Oppo. I tried out my newly acquired DV-980H at 1080p on a friend's 65" Toshiba DLP watching the bank robbery scene in Spider Man 2, and it looked STUNNING, much better than any HD-DVD upconversion I've seen a similar sized screen. I guess you can say the HD-DVD players are "better" in that they will play the now-defunct HD-DVD format discs. But then, most Oppo players will play SA-CDs and DVD-audio discs, which are still being made. To each his own.
  9. A basic principle in speakers is for the cabinets to be as non-resonant as possible, so on the surface it sounds like the recessed RC-52 might be the way to go. Can't say with any authority that the sideways RB-61s will sound better or worse. My gut says that since Klipsch designed them to stand vertically, it would be best to keep them that way.
  10. The updated Synergy line should pair nicely for what you already have. The F1s are nice, but I'd spring for the F2s if you can. Bookshelves are also an option, although I'd look only at the B2s or B3s in that case. They wouldn't be precisely matching in timbre, but not to the point where you'd hear an unmistakable difference. While you're at it, take a look at the new Synergy subs (Sub10 or 12), too. Most folks around here will tell you that they have the potential to knock your socks and shoes off, in that order.
  11. Second that. Having demoed this little (not physically) beastie many a time, I can say with confidence that it'll easily outperform both the competition and your expectations. Nice, clean setup, BTW
  12. I actually thought the Self-Defense class followed immediately by speed dating was the funniest thing. Guess there was more to that than I originally thought...
  13. Sexual Responsibility Week is here, and you know what that means! http://www.pct.edu/pctoday/events/Self-Defense_Speed_Dating_Among_Tonight_s_Activities.shtml
  14. Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source - Share This o·ver·kill /'o?v?r?k?l/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[oh-ver-kil] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1. the capacity of a nation to destroy, by nuclear weapons, more of an enemy than would be necessary for a military victory. 2. an instance of such destruction. 3. an excess of what is required or suitable, as because of zeal or misjudgment.
  15. As some of you know, I'm in the process of designing/building my own HT/ 2-channel set-up in my quite small room measuring 12' x 14'ish (quite spacious for a secondary bedroom). The name of my game has been crafting a system that will meet my audio/video expectations (high) while suiting my budget (low). As I stated before, I work in a place where people wear blue shirts and there is a big yellow tag over the front door, and most of my fellow home theater "experts" think that I am going way overkill on my speaker / receiver selection. Some also claim that I am going to acoustically "murder" my room. While I think appropriate room treatments can cure or at least aid the latter problem, I can't decide if they have a point with their former statement. As it stands now, (and I've pretty much made up my mind) my audio/video equipment will be such: Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH receiver Pioneer Elite DV-48AV DVD player RF-82 fronts RB-61 rears RC-52 center RW-12D sub Sharp 46" or 52" D64U-series LCD (another overkill topic) Keep in mind I will be moving out of my current residence two years at the most, so I'd like to have a system that can be suited for a larger venue.
  16. Veeerrry niiice. I still have my silver frost '97 SHO in the driveway, somehow every tire went flat within a week of each other. Not that this is a sale thread, but it is up for grabs. anyone PM me if interested....
  17. 1999 Nissan Altima SE 5-speed, 2.4L I4 51,000 miles!!
  18. Very few people knew of it in my neck of the woods, but I sold a set of F2s to a guy who had never heard of Klipsch but was impressed with the short demo I did for him. Other than him, no one else took advantage of the savings in my store.
  19. Wow, those are insanely expensive. I feel much better about the M-series now... $7,250 for 12 feet of speaker cable??... where does this put Monster's XPHP-CI at $130 for 100 feet?
  20. Not that I would want to take them anywhere, but if I did ... you're saying that reference speakers would be more fragile than heritage?? But I don't wanna pick a fight... let's talk cables... Is Monster cable M-series worth it??
  21. Thanks for the info, Dr. Who, but I have toyed with the two-channel idea for some time and I believe that the room I am using can readily support a 5.1 system. It may turn out that you are completely right, and then I'll just have me some crow.[] Was there any reason I shouldn't go with the reference series from Klipsch??
  22. Ok, ok. clearly you guys have your brand preferences (or biases!) What I want advice on most is how to get the absolute best (or close) out of my speakers for the small-size room I am using. I have no idea about any kind of acoustical equipment (bass traps?) or if any of that stuff would help. The heart of what I am getting at is space utilization, I guess. Anyone let me know if you want pictures of my room. I can provide them.
