  1. I dunno, I use a 105 watt per channel receiver, cost me a whole $200 and it kicks ***...does DSP modes and drives my reference series stuff as well. Why use a Yugo to power a Charger when a Hemi is available ?
  2. I go with this guy...Dropkick Murphys, Iggy and The Stooges, Iron Cross, Patti Smith, AC/DC...anything that gets the hairs on the back of my neck standing up.
  3. Someone just offered me a 1984 pair of Heresy I's for my RF-52/RC-52/RW-10D.. Are the sonic characteristics that dissimilar, can I get a conversion kit ? I was thinking of holding back on the RW-10D, really cool piece of work.
  4. Yea, I started looking on craigslist and other sources for another pair of HII's to go along with pair 1..I have even offered to trade the whole RF/RC/RW for a half good pair of HII's locally, so no shipping is involved. Don't get me wrong, I like the RF series, but I have been listening to the Heritage series since I was a kid back in '62, some things just grow on you. I miss that open sound more than I realized. My girlfriend prefers the Reference series, but I own the place so it's my decision. http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/ele/524770716.html, make that a cosmetically acceptable, well working pair of HII's. Scratches are no worry, risers preferred. Will swap one HII in good condition w/riser for all RF/RC stuff.
  5. I have both HII's and the RF-52/RC-52/RW-10D series, I have a Yamaha RX-V661, got it at buset buy for $175, open box...totally worth it. Beauty of Klipsch is that you don't much to power them.
  6. Total leap of faith once I get the new crossovers from Bob Crites. I don't know if timbre will blend or not...if i doesn't the RC goes on the auction block with the RF-52's the RW-10D will hopefully blend as well... I like the idea and sound of the center channel, but not at the sake of compromising fidelity.
  7. Wow...I spent 22 years driving an 11M RIB with twin 450 HP Evinrude motors, capable of 45 knots over 240 Nautical miles, that was loud. Dude, you're gonna need some serious hearing aids.
  8. I remember my first time hearing 901's..thought they had toilet paper stuffed in them...of course I came from a home w/Khorns and a Heresy center. I just figured Bose was an east Coast thing. In all fairness, speaker taste is like anything else, there are objective measurements, the industrial series (802 III) will do 91 db 1 watt 1 meter, but they are less than impressive, which is a subjective measure. My RF-52's are objectively better than my HII's but now with the HII's out of the picture, I can't wait to get them back and unload the RF-52's (I'm keeping the center RC-52 and RW-10D sub woofer, but my HII's sound better, a subjective measure. Go figure, all this time advocating for the advancement of technology and I am waiting for new crossovers to restore a pair of 22 year old speakers, that were an uncontested part of my divorce. I still want to skipper an SOC-R
  9. So bloody true...real High Fidelity is dying except for a few diehards. Most of this is because of the iPod thing and peoplel getting used to listening to sampled music, coupled with the drive by some major manufacturers to make things house friendly, eg tiny speakers and a subwoofer, like the Bose Acoustimass series...sound is ok, but they are invisible in a room, nothing like my HII's or the RF/RC/RW stuff, not exactly invisible.
  10. It finally happened, I had a Klipsch breakdown, a crossover died in my Heresy II's, and I had to call Bob Crites and son in for emergency. Pound for pound, when it comes to the bottom line, the Heresy II's do kick the boo-boo out of my RF-52's/RC-52/RW10D. When Bob sends me the new crossovers, I am going to use the Heresy II's as front channel, the RC-52 and the RW-10D. I didn't know what I was missing until I did a side by side comparison. Although I still like the RF series, they may nor last the 22 years my Heresy II's have, at least not in this house. Darn, I can't wait to get them working again.
  11. Please, the fight doesn't always go to the strongest, nor the race to the swiftest, but it's a good way to bet". As a transplanted Californian, who has been in New England, for some time and have watched as we transformed into a football state, between The Patriots and BC, it's quite impressive. After a 16-0 season, Tom Brady was his usual modest, focused self, as any good platoon leader would be. For all you Dallass fans, I have but one thing to say "Patriots Rule". TX, isn't that home to the two cities with the highest rates of obescity in the USA ?
  12. Hey Steve, why not try a year's worth of Muay Thai or wrestling or something of a more physical nature. Give your wife a present to...a fitter you, sounds like you spend too much time with toys, not enough on working the important things, your health, strength and the joy of just being a tough old bird. Steve, I'm fifty and I go against twenty somethings in the octagon or the mat 5 days a week...so instead of saying "...when I was a kid I could...", you can say "...yesterday I did wel in a 3 rounder.." Boy you spend too much time on toys.
  13. Ya know the Palladium may have been driven by Marketing, pushing Engineering to make something more competitve in the high end speaker market. Honestly, I know I am a dark hearted traitor, but I really like my RF stuff way better than my Hesesy II's, which just suffered a crossover failure after 22 years. PWK's dream 60 years ago was based on materials that did not exist at the time and engineering which has learned from it's succeses and failures. My mom's 1962 KHorns sound good, they are efficient, open and clear, but I kind of like some of the high end reference stuff better. By saying that Klipsch cannot improve on PWK's design is really an insult to Klipsch engineering. If I had my way I'd swap 'em for some RF-5's an RC-64 and an RSW-12 I can't wait to hear the new P-39's, I am excited, just as I was when I heard some of the new RF/RC/RW stuff and decided it was time to retire my Heresy II's.
  14. I agree...I get more joy out of three hours of Muay Thai than I get out of any speaker. My mom has 1962 KHorns, I own a new RF/RC/RW system, I like it better than my Heresy II's, regardless a speaker system to faithfully reproduce movie and music soundtracks, which it does. full stop. It neither fulfills my ego nor provides me with pride, it is a tool, one which I use to play music and movies in a good fashion. In my 12 x 8 sound room, my current system is quite adequate. The P39 ads and the old Khorn adds had an eliteist appeal. Personally I'd rather get a new pair of boxing gloves or wrestling shoes, I get more use out of them. For those who buy the P39, congradulations, enjoy. I hope you get years of joy out of them, just as my mom has with her KHorns, and the 22 years I got out of my Heresy II's. I now have the RF-52's/RC-52/RW-10D, I hope to never have to buy another speaker system again. I will be mad if I do, these should last me another 20+ years at least. The Heresy II's will be with me until I die, just because The center channel, sub woofer, front channel idea is supported by my receiver and is really quite good, but no where near as much fun as a few rounds in the octagon or 10 rounds on the bag and focus mitt work. To each their own...
  15. Too complicated, I just got an RW10-D, went with easy settings and all is well.
  16. Peronally, I think it's size and intended use. If you have a 100' X 100' room, the RF-7's ain't gonna do it, the Klipsch industrial stuff will. Home speakers don't go to full capacity in large rooms all the time. We say Home theater because the speaker will be in a home, few homes have a real movie theater in them.
  17. UniversalLCD.com has all the stuff you are looking for, they are in Long Island City.
  18. Ok, today I bought a new RW-10D to go along with my RF/RC-52's. Nothing like matching and I am psyched, I ordered from a place in NYC, so before I get the tracking number I get the package. Yamaha RX-v661 Two Klipsch RF-52's One Klipsch RC-52 two Klipsch Heresy II's Klipsch RW-10D (now...psych).
  19. I think alot of this boils down to personal taste, for xmas I got a friend a pair of Promedia 2.1's, he is a gamer, these are gamer speakers. Prior to that he had virtually nothing. Personally, I have both RF-52's/RC-52 a pair of Heresy II's and I am now shopping for a subwoofer, probably an RW-10d. I am finally having a little trouble with the HII's, and Klipsch has been great with support. Actually I am quite impressed with the Acoustimass 5 system, but I am into the Klipsch paradigm. I do believe that the horn model is the way to go for the most part, but Bose is a much bigger company with a much better marketing arm, and they obvioulsy make stuff that appeals to people. I wish MY RF stuff had the bass line of this little $399 system.
  20. Sad but true, and with the rise of open source, the development game is now just one of numbers, how many developers can you get per project, that with US companies reluctant to honor GPL agreements and we have a real problem. Bangalore, China and Eastern Europe are banging at our door, these areas have great developers. IMI took the avionics contract for the F-22 and what do have outside of a growing gap between our dumb and smart people. True, China is a nation of thieves in that they don't recognize internalional patent law, so the thing would be to keep state of the art stuff out of their hands. China has been the sleeping giant, but when the labor and production costs (fuel, etc) grow to burdensome, they will farm out to the Vietnamese, really the southern tip of China.
  21. John, when I see Rockstar, I think of a 3 hour Muay Thai workout...please get another photo...saw that last one and spent 20 minutes shadow boxing.
  22. MFK - that is a great deal. Love your signature. I also get the smallish smiley box.... oh well. If that's the worst problem I have with the Forum, I can live with it. Thanks, I just call 'em as I see 'em..I am also the dark hearted traitor that went with the RF/RC and now RSW series stuff, but the Heresy still has an honest open sonic signature that makes it great. I'm keeping them. The only problem I see is that the Heresy's don't have a great sonic match with the Reference series. The two bear a family resemblance, but the timbre (sonic signature) is very different, the reference stuff well, you need a center channel and subwoofer.
  23. Problem solved, I just bought an RW-10d on-line...should solve the bass problem...if it doesn't...well...lot of stuff for sale.
  24. Ya think...my cat licked one of my RF-52's...he's not been well since
