  1. Man am I glad I found this post, I recently picked up one of these off of the bay. I don't I got a great deal but i got a deal I am happy with, the one I picked up is a bit of a problem child as far as one of the caps in the back is broken, but this post helps me a lot since it seems that one of the ones in the back of Mikes is what is was working on as well. I have found out that you really need to search the different topics in the forum to find what your looking for. Now I will start a new one about tubes, which again alot of question I have were answered by reading this post. thanks Nick
  2. I know I should stay away from impulse buying, I just had this discusion with Youthman I think a couple of weeks a go. But a HH scott 299 any model letter a-c which from what I've read the c's are the best. Any who settled for this one 299 don't know why I have a thing for a reasonable priced fixer upper. So after I fix the things that are broken were should I go from there, once I have my HT done and my main 2 channel system in the next stage I would like to save the money to send this to Craig over at NOS. But for the mean time is there any thing I could repalce fix etc, to get her up to par. thanks Duder.
  3. Hey subs, I really like your speaker motto. I have recently been trying to live that way for this past year, and man am I glad wait and ask around here, I have made some poor buys in the past but waiting and asking the right questions has left me with what I really want and saved money. Thanks all for your input, if you guys come across a good projector something for me to give a try, that has component inputs, and can go up to a 110". let me know. Thanks Nick
  4. well I put the 3d idea a side for now, if I go with something around 1200 mark than I will have to wait 3-5 years before I can upgrade, for now I have been looking for a good used one There a couple factors one is do really need hdmi or would I be happy with component for now second if stick with a 110" will I have to move it forward or back when I up grade I know most have a range for the throw distance.
  5. Youthman, Thanks for pointing me to wards that article, it really explained alot. Looks like if I want projections, and 3d I need to wait a bit for the technology to be there. As for you get what you pay for I understand that completely, I was just looking for a budget projector to start with, and seen those 3d ready ones. I will keep my eye on the Epson, and also look at others with some what smilier specs. thanks guys at least now I have a idea, like the pre amp I want I will have to deal with what I got until I have the big bucks and the technology is all up to par.
  6. What does this mean when a projector is 3d ready, do I just need some sort of player that plays 3d movie. And do blue ray players play 3d movies. And last but not least are there any budget projectors out there that can get me by for the next couple of years. The reason I asked, is that there are a couple on the bay that claim to be 3d ready such as. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160592480266&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT thanks Nick
  7. He offers those 12" for the Heresies, I don't know if they will work but i guess its worth a try. sounds like fun any way.
  8. Thanks for the input and offer I will see what I come up with, The reason I am looking at some of the smaller ones is because they will be sitting the top of her dresser. Nick
  9. Looking at 2 different pairs on the bay the 1.2 are asking 150 obo plus about 30ish for shipping, and the 1.5s are 69.00 obo 43 for shipping but he claims the crossover is acting up. These would be used for my daughters first 2 channel system, unless someone else has something else they recommend. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160572230655 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330560720282&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT I guess I wil also keep my eyes on these. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140544026555&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT I prefer something with a nice wood grain which I know 2 of these don't have what I want but for the price might be all I can afford. no more than 150.00 with shipping. Thanks Nick
  10. Yes they were, they sounded fantastic, he also showed me his homemade deals in his living room. He is a very nice guy, and thank you so much for the lead, do to you and Dave I know have my first pair of Khorns[Y][]. Now for the fun part Thanks
  11. Would it hurt anything to take off the mounting board and tighten up those bolts on the back side(wait I think I understand how that all comes out now to tighten off). what is this material you speak of. Thanks
  12. So I picked up my first pair of Khorns this weekend[], one is 53' and the other isn't realy a Klipsch khorns but the builder built exactly like the Klipsch version and signed the inside J.B. Rives. But my question is I have a pair of Crites cast frame woofers, is the gasket on the driver all is needed, and what is the best thing for the access cover to use as a sealer. If there is anything else a new owner needs to know about installing new drivers in these fell free to input any 2 cents worth is worth it to me. Thanks Nick
  13. I have been looking at the onkyo line, now I am thinking I might wait for the 3d ready stuff since I want to go that route down the road. thanks for all the input guys I at least know what to look for in a reciever. Nick
  14. Cask thanks for the input, how did you go about getting a refurb model, also the dhc9.9 can be had nos for about 1000. Course its all most 2 years old. What is Audyssey Pro and what external instrumentation do you have that takes place of it. Cecaa, I do own a older NAD reciever I just don't care for the sound, another forum member and a friend of mine on here has NAD everthing and hes does sound great, I only seen to find the master series came as just a pre/pro, but haven't looked futher. Also we need to have a chat about those IB subs, I think the first thing I need to do is figure which side of the room I want to plant my ht that will help me decide location and style for one. Anyways thats a hole nother descusion and time. Thanks guys.
  15. I was have recently been looking at the Integra line for a pre/pro for my HT I have a Emotiva 5 channel amp,. I have also been looking at Rotel, I know there is a big discussion on here for the Emotiva pre/pro but seems to me there is some kinks to work out.. Couple of issues I am looking at is thx certified, and hdmi pass through, I only have 1 source that isn't hdmi but I don't want to have to run another cable through the wall. Any Ideas. thanks
  16. Just talking to the wife about how I enjoyed Harman/Kardon. I know he didn't have much to do with some of the newer stuff but If it wasn't for him that newer stuff wouldn't even be around. Thank you very much and R.I.P. Sidney.
  17. I have searched for a better quality Rg-6, and used it to make short run interconnects. I just had a longer run thought it would be more necessary to use balanced. I am interested to see how you installed a resistor on when terminating. I think I will look at prices next to help decide I guess that could make the decission. Doesn't seem to be a big issue, for what I am doing for now I guess even some cheaper rg6 would be all right unless the balanced isn't to expenssive. Any one know xlr is wired to the 1/4"connectors. Thanks for the info guys. NIck
  18. First off maybe someone can shine light on balanced cables, I know they are realy only necessary for longer runs. Is it so much a cable or the way its wired. Second, I know they are 2 different cables for different things, but I have used rg6 before for interconnects and seemed to work fine I have also used rg59 for interconnects. Third what am I doing, I am hooking up my comp with a Berhinger fca-202 audio interface it accepts balanced with 1/4" plugs which the room I have it in now I just have a 1/4" to rca adapter but the room I am moving it in I will have a run about 35-40 feet. Didn't know If I would be all right finding some rg6 or going with some balanced cables, and if there is a good source for bulk balanced cable. If I went with this balanced wire I would have put the 1/4" on one end and rca on another just need to see how it needs to be wired up.
  19. all of the music stores that werent independently owned closed up with the big mp3 wave hitting the scene, but the locals execpt one stayed in business, and that one only closed up some of there stores(Homers music used to have several locations only 2 one in omaha and one in lincoln) it mainly sales records now and some cds). But they get alot of new stuff in and want big bucks for them. the other 3 antiquarium, drastic plastic which used to be known for vinyl who now only sells cds for the most part, and the king of vinyl kingsville but they buy from people getting out of vinyl and estate sales and goodwill, they also supply the other 3 which of course they have this 1$ room with lots of great albums its like a vinyl grave yard you can spend days in there looking for albums. unfortunatly I wasn't able to make it out today, and there were a few artist such as ac/dc, the boss and other releasing some old singles on vinyl just for today. Klipsch recently had a article about compressed music. I think things like this and youngster like me are what the music industy needs to keep good sounding tunes spinning. excuse the por grammar and spelling I had a great night at bowling and family and friends were involved. duder
  20. what are you going to buy, well if I get a chance to stop by my local independently owned record store I might have to look for some of the singles that are released just for tomorrow. just saying. duder
  21. Its a sealed unit, I would have thought that a 18" would have been plenty big enough, I guess not how about 2 15s, . I thought I always read it was hard to really set up 2 subs properly. I don't know. thanks for the heads up, now back to our original program.
  22. I caught this in the Theater and shouted it out, my wife and kids got embarrased.
  23. Any ideas, for starters I know its not the source. But I haven't tried swaping recievers. Gear is Altec 511b with k-55-v drivers, and Selenium hm17-25 with the d220ti drivers, and Some sort of knock off of Crites 4500 crossover. I don't hear it from the bass bin just the mid and tweet, but the bass bin is a EV Regency cab with a CW1526c. Which I have the changed the taps on the auto transformer for about -6db. If I get time I will swap out recievers and see if thats it but thought I would ask for any extra input maybe a bad cap or transformer, don't know and its not constant only seems to appear with certain songs. Thanks Nick
