  1. Almost finished with this after a year and a half.
  2. EP4000 will be the most bang for your buck, not a plate amp
  3. Quote "the 1201 's dont mount flush to the wall? in the pics it looks like they do" Those are the 12VBs The 1201s are not mounted yet.
  4. I have a build thread here and at AVS but because of the weird picture posting problems here (too much of a pain to resize or lose the side of the pic) I have not updated the thread here. The AVS thread is here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1300605 I actually finished the room last weekend and will shop for carpet this weekend. I have played the 12VBs but with out the Klipshorns mains in the room. The 1201s are still in the boxes as I will need to weld up some brackets to mount them (because they need to be mounted at an angle from the wall). What little information is out there on these says they sound great. I am going to feed them with QSC RMX2450s at 450WPC. I will never push the amps or speakers anywhere close to there limits and it will be nice not to ever worry about damaging either.
  5. KPT-12-VBs for sides and KPT-1201s for rear surounds
  6. Quartets would be the smallest true match, other than a pair of academys for the sides which would be ideal. Heresies would be close enough.
  7. The direct mode bypasses the bass, treble, and loudness contour functions. It is not anything to do with digital to analog or analog to digital as it often is with later receivers. The yamaha loudness contour is a little different than you would expect in that the more you turn it the quieter the output. Is the loudness control set all the way up? That would result in the symptom you report.
  8. Bumping this up again. Have made some progress and will get a few pics up. Finished drywall and greenglue between the joists. This took way more time than I thought it would. I don't know if it will be worth it or not. I hope so. I have framed in for the rack and put in PVC conduit for wiring. I have almost completed the HVAC work, sealing all ducts. I will be using acoustical flex duct from Casco for the vents in this room hopefully it will reduce noise somewhat. The biggest news is that I have two Danley DTS10 subs on their way. The DIY kit deal is back on and I could not resist. To use them I am planning to build a new screen wall 2 feet out from the current one, place the DTS10s behind it or actually build them into the wall and have them fire out of grill covered holes in the wall.
  9. How is that wired? Standard passive crossover with the woofs in parallel? Active crossover. If passive what is the impedance? I am interested in doing this.
  10. Starting to install drywall with greenglue between floor joists.
  11. Framing in the Khorn corners.
  12. I moved the HVAC trunk line over 36" to get it out of the room and against the wall.
  13. Looking forward to these as I own two pairs that I have been meaning to recap but have not had the time. The big issue will be that I will have a hard time spending nearly as much on networks as the speakers are worth. Last week I purchased a used set of ALK universals of of Ebay for my Khorns and I am sure they will be well worth it, but if the cost for the ForteII is any thing like the other ALK offerings it will be a non starter for many. Putting a couple grand into upgrades for my Khorns would not be out of the question for me, but any thing I would do for the Fortes would have to be way less than $500 or even $300.
  14. I can't wait to get these out of my storage room
  15. The right side of all my pictures is cropped off. What could I be doing wrong? Anyway Like I said before I welcome any suggestions. Thanks for reading, Bob
  16. Here are some pics of the bar/game room off of the room.
  17. I have lurked here for over a decade and never posted much as I had very little to add. I have owned klipsch speakers since 1985 when I received a pair of KG4s as a graduation gift. I now own 2 pairs of Forte IIs, a pair of 78 LaScallas, some RS3 surrounds, and a mint pair of 86 oiled oak Khorns. Last year I purchased a new home and am now remodeling a basement room into the space I have always wanted. The room was set up as a theater when I bought the place but had enough issues for my use that I decided to gut it and optimize it for the Khorns. The room will be a theater but rule number one is that 2channel performance can not be compromised. My plans as of now are to have a Belle or split LaScalla built for a center and use pro Klipsch stuff for the rears. I own a JBL B460 sub of which I will probably build another. The space is 20'X34" The biggest issue was windows in the corners. Light was an issue as this room will have a widescope screen and projector, but the biggest issue was corners for the speakers. I have now filled in the windows at the speaker/screen side of the room leaving one at the other end for a fire exit. It will be blacked out completely though. The speaker wall will be built with studs on 8"centers and heavily braced. The first layer will be 3/4" plywood with green glue and 5/8" drywall. The side walls will use 8" centered studs, 5/8" plywood and GG+drywall for the first 10' then double 5/8" drywall with greenglue in the rest of the room. I would welcome and ideas, criticism , ect anyone has on this project. I will post some pictures, and will do my best to keep the thread updated as I progress.
  18. I am putting together my HT and want to look into the KPT 12 VB or KPT 8 VB for surrounds. I can't find any pricing anywhere on the web to see if they are even in the ball park of what I want to spend. Are there no suggested retail prices for Klipsch commercial speakers?
