  1. I am considering setting up a surround set up in my family room /greatroom. I pretty much have everything I need stored under the stairs but a processor. I actually have a really nice high end preamp processor from the prologic/DTS days that I might live with BUT. I have a dedicated theater room with what I think has endgame sound (Khorns Lascalla center, KPT 12 VB side surrounds and KPT1201 rear surrounds. What I am thinking of is just a way to use things I haven't for a long time for an occasional movie without going going downstairs is what I want to do. I have not shopped or even cared about equipment since I completed my main system and my bar game room system. I really just need something that will decode DTS Master audio and Dolby whatever the uncompressed thing is. No Atmos No 13 15 35 channel or what ever the newest thing is. The speakers and amps I have are good and sound quality is important. The ideal solution for me is a Parasound P7 preamp with my OPPO Bluray player doing the decoding work. It is what I have found to be the best sounding solution in my main system after trying many high end pre/pros. So. I want to spend less than what a used P7 would cost. Does something simple but good sounding and relatively cheap exist these days?
  2. I just saw the for sale thread has pics and is still searchable. The one posted for sale was in quite a bit better shape than the one I refinished. There is quite a bit of bondo in the black one.
  3. Yes I sold one. I thought about painting it to match the other, For about half a second.
  4. Only pic I can find of the speaker pre paint job
  5. Looked bad. Previous owner had done a real bad job. Really stubborn varnish and a lot of chips in the plywood. Had old stapled factory grills. Emron paint. Many hours into it. I would not do it again. Easier to work overtime and buy new Lascalla 2s
  6. I run a Oppo 105 into a fully analog Parasound P7 seven channel preamp. The video is run HDMI to the projector. The sound is noticeably better than any pre/pro I have ever tried. I will never go back. I think if more people would try the approach it could catch on.
  7. I will consider trade for very minty oil oak Academy or possibly 2" mid horn stuff
  8. Ive sat on it for many years now. I refinished the rougher of the pair for my center. I thought someday I might want to finish this one and have a pair but that is not going to happen and the last thing I need or want at this point is more speakers. I am not in a hurry but I am going to sale it eventually. if eventually I have to ship I will, I just want to see if it can simply be carried away for now.
  9. Speaker functions perfectly
  10. I am going to keep the Laser badge so keep that in mind. It is a 1978 model but the mid driver has been swapped out for a later M model if that maters. Crossover is AA with caps replaced with Crites kit.
  11. I have a single lascala I want to sale. It is in the Salt Lake valley. For now I do not want to go to the trouble of shipping so local sale only for now. $450.00

    JBL B460 or?

I have had a B460 for 25 years now I have never heard a sub I like more for music listening. I have a pair of Danley DTS 10s I use to watch movies with but the JBL sounds so much better if you don't need crazy volume. The only issue I could see is a possible lack of factory recone or refoam kits. Give it a listen and then jump on it it will go fast.
  13. You do need a high pass with the DTS 10. 10 Hz 24db/Butterworth. Probably not needed for music but there are movies that can hurt them with the power some of us have available. Also my understanding is that the delay cannot be set just from the path length but must be done through measurements because of the different path lengths with a tapped horn. Mostly over my head so I may not be correct on this. I would be interested in a delay figure from measurements as I do not have the knowledge or equipment to do it my self.
  14. The NAD is out I need balanced outputs. The other 2 would work and save money over the P7. I still am leaning toward the pure analog pre.
  15. Low budget would be 1500 or less. preferably less. Budget for theater projector could be 5 times that.
  16. No atmos or additional channels. 7.1 is all I need, and actually 5.1 would have been just fine. I am happy with the sound I have for life. I am finished with upgrades unless my current stuff breaks or wears out.
  17. Yesterday I was changing out a bad dimmer switch and in a moment of stupidity (really should have turned the breaker off before i pulled the switch out) caused a short circuit. For some reason the projector in my bar is toast and somehow the HDMI outputs on my Integra Pre/Pro no longer output anything. I am seriously considering buying a Parasound P7 preamp instead of another processor. I am trying to think of anything I would be missing if I went that route and I am coming up with nothing except that I really like the sound of my current 2 channel preamp and am unsure if the parasound will sound as good. Has anyone used one? If so how do they sound. If anyone can think of a downside to one try to talk me out of it and into another processor. Suggestions are also welcome on Prepros as I have not looked at any for 8 years. Sound quality is the top consideration for me, but I have only used my current one to play multi channel movies and music with all 2 channel listening done through a proper 2 channel preamp with HT bypass. I have no need for any room correction as I corrected the actual room and play my kit flat. The source at the moment is a Oppo 105 which I think has all the processing I require. Another plus with the P7 is analog bass management which will allow me to try using my subs for 2 channel listening. I also need to decide on a projector for my bar. I am debating whether to move the projector from my theater room to the bar and buying a better one, or looking for a budget model for the bar and waiting on an upgrade for the theater. The last time I looked it seemed like JVC was making the best stuff in my budget. Is that still the case or are there others I should look into? If I go with a low cost option what would you guys look for? The bar projector is used exclusively for sports. It projects onto a 95" screen and needs to work in a fairly lit up room. My theater screen is a 135" scope screen in a totally light controlled room with black ceiling and carpet and dark walls.
  18. I am looking to possibly trade a single LaScala for a Academy I am only interested in one in excellent to mint working and cosmetic shape (oiled oak). Within reasonable distance from Salt Lake City. I do not want to bother with shipping. I know the odds of making a deal are slim but who knows. I would also be interested in buying a minty Academy if anyone wants to sell.
  19. Do you not like the Micro Rendu? I have seriously been thinking about going with one in place of my music server mac mini. How are you using it? I would use it as a Roon end point.
