  1. Having the pb 13 and listening to the RSW 15 I would say that the RSW seems to have more punch/impact than the pb13. The SVS I feel is a much smoother sub in it's overall deliverance of bass across it's entire FR. I listen primarily to music (when the wifes not home) then comes HT. IMO the SVS does an absolute fantastic job in delivering the goods with 2ch music, and with HT, its a whole different story with LFE. I think the overall smoothness of the SVS with the nice punchy impact of the RF 7s ( or RF 5s in my case) make for a nice combo. When I say the SVS is smoother does not mean that the SVS does not have punch because it definitely will shake the couch from under you and steal your breath away as it pressurizes the room with bass drum kicks (at only a 1/4 gain and -10dB on the reciever in a 2700^3 room). Having not heard the conquest cannot compare. I would suggest the SVS in all aplications as it can keep up with with double bass pedals and excels in every HT aspect. The wife was a little freaked out / upset with the PB 13 was delivered but after it got setup and we watched a movie she said that it made a huge impact on the overall experience of watching movies. She actually stays up the whole time during movies now.....Not sure if it's the excitement of the impact that keeps you wanting more or the floors shaking. Either way watching movies and listening to music with the PB 13 ultra is no longer only a listening experince it's also the the feel the movies have now ( I personally can't hear 20Hz but i sure in the heck fell it).
  2. I may get ripped on, as I've never heard the klf 20s (only klf 30s) or Fortes. I do have RF 5s and at higher SPLs (not ear wrenching just higher than normal TV watching) these things have tight, deep athoratative bass. I shut my SVS off to listen to 2 ch sometimes. Given the FreqResp on the Klipsch website is accurate in the sense of +/- 3 dB because they will play down to 20 Hz (with roll off but none the less down to 20 Hz).
  3. Just want to say I love my wife, her WAF is usually pretty low. Her dad has some bose equipment he loves with a sony 12 and some cerwin vegas and everytime we come home from there she says " i don't know how anyone can listen to that all i hear is hissing and boom"
  4. Nce to hear from you guys lets keep them comming. Anyone use/used Tubes with their RF 5s? How Much power do you run to your 5's? Do you have them bi-ampd or bi wired?
  5. I cruise around here on the forums day and night and seldom come across stuff about RF 5s, they seem to not just be over shadowed by their bigger brother RF 7 but completely blacked out almost. I wanted to start a thread that would potentialy be a little more specific to users with RF 5s as I believe they are quite close in sound quality than the RF 7s and in no way do I believe the RF 7s are worth 3x what RF 5s are now. Anyways back to it...... If users of RF 5's could post their experience with RF 5s, amps, setups those kinds of things. It would be greatly appreciated I think for all of us that own RF 5s. Maybe this was a stupid thread but thought maybe could get some response from other 5 owners that lurk in these parts.
  6. I think most user here will agree that for 2 ch sources stereo is the best listening option. I myself don't care to much for the pro logic setups, the thx decoders are ok and dts's Neo 6 stuff i prefer over the dolby stuff. As far as movies with multi channel sources I myself again like to just leave it as it's flagged. Most of the time I use the basics. I don't care for the way the processing makes the music sound, it's either to narrow and focused on the center or sometimes too wide. It's just a matter of preference. Lately with the advent of the HDMI cable I actually have been using the Direct and Pure Audio mode alot more. Especially with Blu Ray Movies, after I get it set up (the movie) I hit the Pure Audio button and IMO sounds much better completely unaltered. Just an opionion though. When I watch sports that are in 5.1 I usually leave it but sometimes will change to the 2 ch stereo option. The ambient noise during footbal games gets a little annoying to me.
  7. Doesn't look like anyone has really given any reason or explanation as to "WHY" this happens. I have always been irritated by this feature of movie viewing volume and commericial volumes. What happens when there is a switch from digital programming or movie watching, to a commercial there is waht the broadcasting station call "DialogueNorm" and this is kept the same across all program material movie, comercials etc. So just like a radio station they try to keep the dB output equalat any given time, the commercial developers and writers of commercials know this so what happens is that jack up the master recording volume so when the broadcasting station runs the ad it seems as if you turned your tv up anywhere from 5 - 20 dB. If you can imagine a scale or meter from 0 dB - 114dB and dialogue usually happen right in the middle at say about 57 - 60 dB. Quiet things like windblowing happen at the lower end of the scale and explosions on the high end. So the commercial people jack the dialogue up to the MAX within that scale and when it output from the broadcast station you have an EXPLOSION of dialogue. Some recievers like the Onkyo I have try to take this into account, as another member noted on his reciever it would say things like +4 dB DialNorm or -2 dB DialNorm, this is the reciever trying to compensate for the increase in dB output by the broadcast station. The reciever doesn't usually quiet it down enough. This is something that will probably not be changed as everyone would have to use Dolby like standards in their dynamic range in order to have something that was normal or standard across the board. Hopefully this helps and makes sense. I just have a - 20dB when muting and MUTE it when commercials come on.
  8. that's the greatest thing about having your very own Home Theatre.....at Home.. My nephew loves the movies, my son loves to jam out to music with me and my old man.
  9. therc 52 and the rc 35 are very similiar both have dual 6.5" drivers and a horn the 62 i believe goes a littler lower without looking. that choice would be fine to go with the rf 35.
  10. e-mail the klipsch guys for a part number they usually will be able to find it for you
  11. The onkyo is a great HT reciever if you go with Onkyo I would suggest getting the 705 opposed to the 606, little more power in the 705 if irecall. Th x06 line has switched from burr brown dacs to cirrius dac suppose it's a matter of choice. The 805 i have is great for HT use good for 2 ch listening at higher levels, may be just me but seems the LFE channel is a bit off. As for the denon and pioneer couldn't tell you much only have experience with some 2 ch recievers from pioneer which seems to pump out some decent 2 ch listening.
  12. great job wuzzer, let us know how it goes...after having an SVS what made you try anything else?
  13. You'll be fine if you switch it to the 6 ohm setting. The Ohm setting on the reciever from my understanding is more of a safety precaution so the amplifiers aren't damaged. You wont recieve any more power from the receiver as that's what your hoping for as the Ohm (resistance) is more in response to what the speakers are. Your speakers still represent 8 ohm of resistance in the circuit therefore only pulling 130 wpc @ 8 ohms. When set to 6 ohms the reciever understands there is less resistance in the circuit and that the speakers (a 6 ohm speaker) will pull greater levels of power. If you think you hear a difference then great leave it on the 6 ohm setting. If you play it at high SPL for long periods of time the safety cut off may activate and shut the system down to prevent overheating/damage.
  14. I have the sickness as well, stay away from the forums..... I cruise around all of them all day looking at upgrades, once you have it you'll never get rid of it it's a virus Audio Immune Diffeciency
  15. I think it's a noticeable improvement even if you don't have a 1080p display you'll still recieve the benefits of blu ray vs an upconverted dvd . Do an A B comparison on a standard dvd with upconvert then a blu ray in your displays native resolution and you will see major improvements in detail, depth, color and contrast. As far as audio goes it is one of the most complimentary aspects of blu ray if you ask me. Dolby True HD, Uncompressed LPCM and DTS MA are so much more detailed, much fuller and rich than their lossy counter parts. I think other will ring in that you don't need a 1080p display to recieve the benefits of blu ray....just my 2 cents
  16. I was curious as to what some of you thought about sperates inconjuction with integrated amps. I currently have an Onkyo 805 and satisfied with it in all aspects except 2 channel listening. I was curious if you thought I would benefit from purchasing a seperate for 2 channel listening, I have the option to get a adcom gfa 5503 for a great price. It's rated a 200w x 3ch. Would this help me in what i'm seeking.... that being my RF 5 seem to lack bass at lower listening levels (not sure if it's the rf 5s or the onkyo), when volume increase everything really seems to come to life and get much better dynamics , I'm looking to improve the dynamics at both lower listening levels as well as improving upon the already good dynamics at high dB levels. Any thoughts or suggestions on whether I would benefit from more power? Or should I just continue to save until I upgrade again to emotiva stuff?
  17. The signal paths i believe are not seperate bliss, the internal crossovers are are still active. The onkyo will still send entire bandwidth to the HF and LF not improving the sonics as the amp is not focusing its amplification on a smaller section of bandwidth instead it's actually doing more work. 4 seperate channels instead of just 2ch and all are focused on amplifying the entireaudible range.
  18. Yeah don't do that chillygoose, it's not so much that the speakers can't handle what you want to do, but the overlap in frequencies from the A and B sides (on the reciever) may not be delivered simultaneously causing a delayed respone in bandwidth from the A B channels. So you could potentially get an echo or reverb which I suppose could cause damage. It also wont improve sonics 100watts plus 100watts does not equal 200 watts if that's waht you're thinking. If you're wanting to hook more speaker wire up just bi-wire them.
  19. Had a recent CL issue recently as well, 2 times actually. Thefirst was actually via thegarage sell section here, a girl was trying to sell some RF7 in my area approx 200 miles away, I made the trip 2 time to try and get them both times she was suddenly unavailable. The second time was on CL from a guy in my area, selling chorus II's good price and said were in great condition. Upon calling him he says "oh , the speakers need some work i didn't say that in the add, someone sanded the speakers down and both passives need reconed." I said maybe i can come by and look at them . scheduled a time for the enxt day called him to verify time and the got shot down. Stinks seeing "good deals" and being duped into thinking people are honest.
  20. THX recommends setting all crossover frequencies at 80Hz this may be higer or lower than you may want. I think most people crossover at 80Hz with the exception of their fronts and surrounds depending on their size. I have RF 5, which are similar to the RF 82 and set the crossover just abovewhat they rated at, ie 40 Hz. If you want the most bass possible from your system cross everything over at the speakers lowest rated frequencies, except the sub which is good at 80Hz or below for me. 80Hz would eb a good starting point then adjust from there. What do you have for your setup?
  21. So how would/does this work with A/V recievers? Is it better to have the trim in reciver be in the + dB arena and a lower "reference"setting (ie -30.0 dB or so)? Or is it better to leave trim in the - dB arena and use 0.0 dB as "reference" level? Or does it not matter inregards to A/V recievers?
  22. Just wanted to agree with Jay and mntnbkr, the HK i had was rated at like 80 watts or something dont quite recall and the onkyo 805 i have now doesn't compare in sound qualit. The HK brought my RF 5s to life in all aspects, the onkyo has more features and sounds fine for HT but no comparison with music. I'm in the process of searching for a good power amp for music.
  23. after doing a little more reading it say that at given xx.x Hz connected via HDMI *MUST* be output Mult Ch PCM so that would explain it in a sense.
  24. Mike Stehr is write metallica died with cliff burton, and really hit the crapper when jason newstead left. I like the new albums content except for the way it's recorded as kfoss has said. It really lack the dynamics that are really there in rock and roll. I keep trying to convert my friends back to CDs but this digital ipod mp3 aac content has ruined music. I'm guilty of it as well, i listend to my mp3s until i started to listen to cds again and was blown away and haven't listened to an mp3 since. For some good rock / Blues listening you should give Hamilton Loomis a try recorded IMO very well. H'es a protege of Buddy Guy, good stuff.
  25. Thebes has got it right, if you're patient you'll find some really great deals on here and on craigslist. I thought about buying the kg 3.5 for 100 bucks if they weren't so far away.
