  1. AVman, I am using the Component video out on the Dish reciever to feed the tv. I have the dish receiver set to 1080i and the tv set to 1080i. To me the picture is superior to svideo. I have checked as I have a svideo and the component going into separate inputs in the tv. Since when I use the component vid cables my TV will not allow stretch mode since the dish reciever is inserting it's own black side bars, ie the tv is sensing a full widersceen signal or HD so I sometimes will switch to the Svideo so that I can strech regular tv. Anyway if ind the resolution is better however the color seemes to be a little more washed out but I suspect it is becuse I set the color when using svideo and I probably need to adjust it. There is obviously alot less color bleeding when using the component cables. Do you think that could be why you think the svidoe looks better to you that non hd in 1080i or hd mode? I will adjust my color tonite but then it will probably be too harsh when i use the svideo. Oh well it looks great on the true hd stuff. EJ
  2. JT, I've got mine hooked up in parallel also on the center. EJ
  3. I've never heard the the two types together but I can't imagine they would sound bad together. EJ
  4. RF's on the front and Ksf's on the rear would sound fine. I would get the RF's instead of anther set of KSF's especially if you can get a good price on them. Once you get into 5.1 with a center you will want to more closely match your center channel with a RF center to keep the front seamless. Go for it. EJ
  5. I don't think I have the input on my TV. It must just be a color thing, less bleedover, better isolation. I'm cool with the 108O Res I get from the component. I figured the RGB must be better since there are about 15 or so taps in the plug. Anyone out there use it? EJ
  6. William, When you said we should use the 4 ohm taps do you mean if the reciever has ohm switching we should set it to 4 ohm. If so does this hold true for all Heritage speakers? I always just leave mine set at 8 ohm, should I change it? EJ
  7. I just got the new Dish 6000 reciever. I like the incresed picture quality from the compontent video outs. It has an RGB video out? I have heard of this before, is it better than component? It has more wires. EJ
  8. Yea, six channel stero would be nice. When I want to listen to music I run in 4 channel(Quadraphonic). I just split the 2 channel zone 2 out put into the Front and Rear inuts on the 6 channel inputs. That way each speaker has it's own amp. Hopefully someone will come out with a processor that will do 6 channel stereo and utilize the inputs. Unfortunatly you are not getting alot of reponses to your post but there are not alot of Yamaha fans in this BB. Seldom does anyone talk about them. There is a huge Dennon fan base here though, you could find out alot about the Denons. Good Luck EJ
  9. Ray, I am a jacka$$ and you are a true gentleman. EJ
  10. Ray, I obviously hit a nerve with my post judging by your response in part: <"and assuming that you're willing to continue to read a sentence from someone who obviously has no idea how to write concisely and clearly"> I respect your opinion and I know you are extremely knowledgeable about audio and the engineering behind it. I have a BS in engineering myself. Ray, my post is a little Klipsh speaker biased I will admit there are lots of great speakers out there that I have never heard, or even heard of. However, I never stated that you should move up in speaker lines before upgrading components. I was saying you obtain a decent set of speakers that you like and then then importance of the upgrade and IMO their order of importance. I don't dispute that the amps yur asking Ears about sound great and your comparisons to make the lower model speaker sound better are probably correct. Same line of speaker, only subtle differences in lower/higher model, etc. like you said, I agree. What's your point? I personally felt your post implied that I was ignorant in my reasoning so please tell me and everyone else how to build a decent system and apply an importance factor to upgrades and components. I'm not being arguementative or sarcastic here, I really want to hear what you have to say about it without being brand specific, explain upgrades in dollars vs gain in sound quality and be sure to make it clear if the upgrade is subtle or very noticeable. I'm mean a Krell, Halchro, Moon, WyTech, I have no idea what these cost but I'd be willing to bet they are considerably more than I paid for my RX-V1($1500) which I think is a respectable amp. What do you think, is it a respectable amp or is it sub-par? What about my speakers, Khorns, Cornwalls, Hereseys? Do you think they would sound good with the RX-V1? Ear, any comments. A Krell amp would cost me nearly what I have paid for my entire system, is it worth it to spend that money? What if I can't afford a 5 channel Krell, then what should I do? BTW what is the difference in cost of a Rotel and a Linn Klimax? Is it the same as the difference between an RF-5 and an RF-7? Nothing personal, I just think people can go a little overboard for subtle gains in sound quality. Especially when they spend more on an amp than they paid for their car, unless their rich, then who cares, beers are on me. Whoa life's a beach. No worries. EJ
  11. Q, Sounds good that should be a good time to call. Talk at you tomorrow. I'll stop by tonight and get the LaScalas w/the Alks in them tonite for 1k if thats OK with you. Why are you getting rid of LaScala Center? EJ
  12. invideo, Those older JBL studio monitors were fantastic speakers. I have never actually heard a pair myself but my dad has talked about how great they sound on many an occasion. When I first got my Heresey's he would comment on how they reminded him of them. EJ
  13. Q, I'm in Orlando. We have a mutual aquaitance, Mike Lindsey. He lives about 5 minutes from although I have only made it over to his place once we are planning for more visits. Anyway I am not saying yes this exact second but if I did choose to buy as I said I would have to give you part now part later while you hold on to them. I don't have room now and I don't think the wife would approve at this point in time. Can you give me some details, wood type/color, x-over, year, etc. Ask Mike, He knows who I am, but probably not well enough to vouch for my character. I do really want a set of LaScala's to finish out my speaker setup. Khorns Fronts LaScala's Front and Rear Centers Heresey's Front Effects Cornwall Rears Sub To be Determined Give me the details and I will tell you for sure if I want them. EJ
  14. You must listen to them. There is no way to accurately explain what your ears will tell your brain when you hear them. I have not done much listening to Reference but what I could tell you is that the Hereseys will reproduce the music at a reletively flat response ie they will neither attentuate nor will they cut certain values in the audible spectrum. Reference sound great, just different. It's the timbre of the different horns plus the low end on the Ref sound much different. I'm not sure what the crossover is for the woofer of the heresey is but you get a fair abount of midrange out of them which helps them sound more full and seems to bring the mids alive with the mid horn. This is a fairly common trait with all of the Heritage but moreso with the heresey, The Lascala's do this well also thats why they sound so good as center channels. Very good voicing. I'm going to start talking out of my a$$ here about the Heritage so bear with me. They use a different style woofer, without a foam surround but rather accordian type surround. They produce a very tight bass with the ability to go low (Khorns/Cornwalls) but are not inherently boomy. The large enclosures are what help them get boomy and the cornwall goes a step further with the ports to get some boom. However they maintain a tight punch because of the woofers and get some boom from the design of the box, not necessarily from a woofer with a huge magnet, long throw and super strong voice coil. Woofers that are made like that are made just to be slammed. Therefore they give up the ability to reproduce anything in the midbass/midrange area that sounds worth a darn. Thus they are crossed over at a lower frequency leaving only your Mid horn to do the job, but there is something to be said for midrange that is reproduced from paper cone speaker. Yes horns do an awesome job of reproduction but they are that horns, they lack the ability to recreate some of the mids accurately and recreate some perfectly, its a balancing act with the mids between the woofers and mid horns. IMO the Heritage line is does a very good job of doing this. The Lascala, Belle and Heresey do it the best due to the front firing bass speakers(Lasacla and Belle face backwrd but folded forward with horn box). EJ EJ
  15. Justin, Bummer! How much do you have to spend on an amp? I'm suprised that the Pioneer checked out that soon. I always liked their stuff but it was middle of the road Equipment, their cheaper stuff and rack systems never really impressed me, just seemed cheap. Check the demo/return tables at Circuit City/ Best Buy/ and don't forget Sears. You can find some deals if your looking for middle of the road stuff, if a little use on it isn't a problem. EJ
  16. I would like to be able to catch the American Grand Prix F1 Race while in Indy. Any chance it can be schedule around that time. It would make hotels alot more expensive though. I love F1! EJ
  17. Marksdad, Gotta disagree there. Good speakers + Mediocore Amp does not equal mediocore system. As Ear said a good set of klipsch will soud great even with a medicore amp. Everyone, Here are my feelings on setups from good to bad with 99.9% being the best and 0% being the worst. You hit 90% just by starting with Klipsch speakers. <80.0% 90% of non-Klipsch speakers with any amps/system setup. 90.0% Klisch speakers with a $100 SS amp 95.0% Klisch speakers with a $200 SS (80-100wpc) Big jump just becuse of increased clean power. 97.0% Use quality Interconnects and Speaker Wire. 98.0% Upgrade your receiver to $500-$1000 dollar range (Amps w/100-130 rms WPC @ 8ohms w/ lower distortion ratios. 98.5% Use receiver in +$1000 Range (Little bit of grey area here because there are alot of receivers out there in the 600+ range that will sound great.) 99.0% Upgrade Source components to Top Of the Line 99.5% Super Expensive Amplifier +$3000. All separates, preamps, amps, etc. Top of the line stuff. >99.5% All the other little stuff that we are always talking about on the BB to make our systems sound better. Obviously this is a rather simplistic breakdown that leaves out alot of different scenarios but the point is that we tend to mull over little things that we can do to our systems that really aren't going make a huge difference in the whole grand scheme of things. On top of that we give advise to newbies to get this and that and tell guys that there system aint sh1t because they have whatever amp, etc. I am not being brand specific in my list with the exception of the speakers which ARE the foundation of the system. I am pretty happy being in the 98.5% to 99.0% brackets. IMO If you have a good set of Klipsch, and a +$1000 reciever w/ good speaker wire and interconnects you are not ging to notice a whole lot of improvement from anything you will do. I mean you can notice improvement but you are already at like 98%to 98.9% of pure audio bliss. You will spend alot of money to get to 99% and above and it will cost you. Those moneys you spend getting above the 99% will not give you near the bang for your buck that that you have spent up to that point. Don't think you don't have a killer system just because you don't have the best of everything. For HT, Five Heresy's with a decent amp and sub will blow 99% of the systems out there away as far as sound quality goes. Hell a pair of hereseys and a sub will blow away any setup you will ever find in a Circuit City or Best Buy and you can even power them up with their KLH receiver. Anyone entering this website should be forewarned that they are entering a site of sound junkies seeking audio perfection and to take our comments with a grain of salt. We are just so used to having the most awesome sounding systems we forget that to many alot of what we want or feel we need is really overkill or unattainable due to budget constriants. Continous audio improvemet is a sickness and I will be the first to admit that I am stricken with the disease. Also want to comment to some of those who say Heritage have to many high's(annoying) unless ran through a tube amp. Since the Heresey was introduced it has probably been used in more mixing studios for final mixdowns ran with SS amps than any other single speaker. Why? Because of it's compactness and flat response. So it's not the speakers, it's you and your taste. I consider myself a realist who likes to cut thoruogh all of the crap and hype. I mean I still use zip cord for speaker wire, no worries mate. EJ
  18. Cool, you will love them I'm sure of that. It's always nice to hear about a set of heritage finding a good home. I'm against the euthenaisia of Heritage. On this subject I am Pro-Life. I myself am starting an adopt a Heritage program. Of course I will be taking care of all of the abondoned myself. EJ
  19. Q, Hmmmmmm. After the new purchase of the Khorns, I don't know if I dare even ask the wife. Right now we have 4 pairs of Klipsch in living room plus a sub. I sure would like the LaScala's for front and rear centers. Maybe if I got them she wouldn't notice. Let me ponder I sure would love them. I'm sure they are nice. Yea then I could use the Heresey's for front effects. Man your killing me here. So tempting. Can I put them on layaway, I mean I have the money but she will definitely notice that much gone out of the account? Maybe you could keep them for a while and I will make payments, then when the dust settles I can bring them to my house. Let me know. EJ
  20. Chris, He will catalog them when he gets settled so he can sell them. It will take more than 12 minutes but he will have to do that. Mike, Yes, you have second crack, well actually thirs crack, first he will keep what he really wants then me, then you. Arfz, Ye he has quite a few picture disks. Only thing you will find different about 90% of his coolection is that they have a stamp on the jackets, Promotional Copy, that is what they do to all of the records that they give to Radio stations. No problems with handleing and taking care of records here. I hae been spinning records since I could walk. I will post the list of once it is compiled so BB can get first shot. EJ
  21. Welcome Glenda, It's nice to hear you are a Klipach lover too. My wife has been on this site before too, last time I think was looking for Klipsch posters/ads. The BB members were very helpful but we are still looking as we haven't found any yet. Plus she helped me do the bidding on my Khorns I bought off of ebay. Wives that support our fanatical lifstyle are cool. EJ
  22. Q, I thought I saw a S-Video Amp at Radio Shack fro around $50. EJ
