  1. ---------------- Philips DVD963SA. can be hacked to ouput 720p! Yes! 720p! ---------------- That would be cool if DVD's were made in the 720p format. Most monitors won't display 720p, so not a very important factor in choosing a DVD player. I love my Panasonic DVD-RP91, and you can get them for 300-400 dollars now (compared with $700 a year ago). The others mentioned are worth checking out, too. Denon 1600 is very nice.
  2. I think the RC-7 is a great match, and will sound awesome. It is like night and day from the RC-3, I've owned both and spent extended time with them. ---------------- RC3 and 7 not as big of a difference but the 7 does sound better, more highs and deeper mids. ---------------- I totally disagree. It's a huge difference. ---------------- I tried the RS3 and 7 side by side in my HT. They are shelf mounted 5.5 ft above the floor. The 7's are heavier and recommend having a friend around to lend a hand. Sound wise the 7's won hands down. The increased sensitivity was very noticable. When I sampled Episode 1 pod race chapters 20-23 it was like 2 different movies. ---------------- Oh,oh, maybe I need to rethink my set-up, I was happy with my RS-3's, but to say it's like watching two different movies... Bottom line, the set-up you are proposing will work and sound great, regardless of what some hook-up chart says. Good luck.
  3. I'd say for HT the biggest difference you'll for sure notice (in the choices you've listed) is going from the RC-3II to the RC-7. I'd recommend that center channel with any reference speaker set-up. I didn't spring for the RS-7's (too damn big) so I can't really comment on that. I agree with the others that the RF-7's are way better than the 3's or 5's, there's no comparison, but if you don't want to wait, definitely opt for a pkg. with the RC-7.
  4. Lincolns Wax, My room is very small, but I don't think the speakers are too big for the room. I LOVE my RF-7's and My Dual RSW-15's, they sound great in my room, loud as hell if I want it to be, but yet still very detailed. I wouldn't discourage anyone from picking up a set, no matter what size room. My wall is exactly the length you see in the picture, by the left sub is the wall, and by the right sub is the doorway. I'd estimate probably 9-10 feet wide. I originally had the subs on the inside and the speakers on the outside, but it didn't look as good. I sit about 7-8 feet away from the TV, I'd say the total room size is about 9ft. by 12ft., give or take. Mike Hurd and JT1, Yep, four subs, and I LOVE it, sounds awesome, I don't have pics that I can upload, but maybe someday I will post them. I even have a sub out on the porch for my little indoor/outdoor speakers, so I guess you can say I agree, the more bass the better!!! To everyone else, yeah I'd like to have a decent audio rack, but just don't have the space, my stuff is okay so far, so hopefully it will continue to be alright. If they'd hurry up and come out with the HD Tivo, I'd save a lot of room. I've toyed with the idea of putting some of the stuff on top of one or both of the subs, but I don't know if that is the greatest idea either. I am going to be getting a new receiver (Denon AVR-4802) within the next couple weeks and will probably toy around with some other arrangements at that time. Thanks for all the comments.
  5. Very adjustable Crossover? This must be a new feature, I thought they only had 80, 100, 120. The Denon does have the VERY COOL Video Upconversion, which mens you can run any combination of Composite, S, and Component Video and have Just one set of component out to your TV. This is so cool and makes life a lot easier. That feature alone makes the Denon worth the investment.
  6. The HD200 will receive STANDARD cable, not HD cable, and is not good for Dish Network. Best bet would be to switch to Dish Network altogether and ditch the cable.
  7. I watched it in HD and 5.1 surround sound!! HD is pretty much all I watch anymore. DVD's look weak compared to HD. Fox Widescreen is JUNK. I watched the SB last year, and it wasn't even close to this year's presentation. I think the occasional audio dropouts were universal, not just for Mits owners.
  8. ---------------- On 1/26/2003 2:39:30 AM prodj101 wrote: also, doesn't that equpiment get a little warm all crammed in there? ---------------- Yeah, I had to get kind of creative with the stacking. I put the Tivo on top of the receiver because I figure it can take the heat, the Tivo doesn't give off much heat, but the internal temperature is fairly warm, and I can monitor that with the onscreen menu of the TiVo. The only other piece that gets hot is the Samsung Box--It gets HOT!! That's why it is on top, even though I think it would look better below the VCR. What you dont see is that there is quite a bit of space between the top of the unit and the underside of the top of the stand, so hopefully it will be Okay. The one thing I worry about is damaging the VCR unerneath the Sammy HD box.
  9. You guys are quick, I wasn't even done uploading my pics and I had 2 replies. ProDj, If I stacked the subs, it wouldn't look as cool , plus I feel I get a more balanced sound by having a left and right sub, I always felt more pressure from the left when I just had the one RSW-15, I have carefully balanced the two subs to put out the same Level of sound. Michael, Do I Need two? No, but I do think it sounds better, and I've never been one to do things Half-Assed You're right, though, it is a small room, which is why I don't have room for a decent audio rack. That picture is my whole wall! To Prove I don't do anything on a small scale, check out this pic of my DVD collection.
  10. Here's the rest of the Equipment, A Samsung SIRT-165 Hi-Def Box with firewire, which feeds the Mitsubish HS-HD2000 Hi-Def VCR, the Panasonic DVD-RP91, and Panasonic TU-HDS HI-Def Satellite Receiver.
  11. Here's a closer look at the electronics, Philips DSR-6000R DirecTiVo unit, Pioneer VSX-45tx receiver, and Monster Power HTS-5000
  12. Here is My Equipment Rack. A Bell'o stand with all my gear shoehorned in.
  13. Here is the cool picture without the grilles. Unfortunately, I have a cat, so I cannot keep them this way.
  14. I've been wanting to post Pictures for a while now, and I am finally getting somewhat caught up on this techonogy thing. I still don't know how to post more than one pic at a time, if anyone could help, I'd be glad to edit my post. This is my system of RF-7's, RC-7, and 2 RSW-15's. The TV is a Panasonic CT-34WX50. What you can't see is My rears (RS-3's) and my rear sub pair (Infinity IL-100s x2). I use all Monster cable (mostly Z-Series) to hook all this up.
  15. Pioneer is definitely going with DVI. Which is strange seeing that their flagship Receiver/DVD combo both have firewire, which can pass DVD-A and SACD. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the powers that be could look out for others' best interest instead of their own. I for one will not support DVI unless I absolutely have to. How many people have elaborate home theater systems but can't figure how to hook up/operate them? Firewire would solve all those problems. I'm afraid that DVI is taking a pretty strong foothold on most of the products available today, and that is a shame. The biggest problem is that only a handful of people understand how much better things would be with firewire, so people are blindly buying products with DVI. On a sidenote, I recently had a discussion with an RCA rep, and kind of let him have it. They have both firewire and DVI on their new integrated TV, but the firewire is input only. Why bother. The manufacturers are just bowing to the pressure of Hollywood and it's sad. Hooray for Mitsubishi for not supporting this nonsense, now if only some others would follow suit.
  16. Actually when your speakers are set to large the crossover doesn't have any effect. Check and see if your receiver has a setting for "PLUS" on the subwoofer setting (Yes->No->Plus). If so, you will get bass to the sub in Large speaker mode. The three Pioneers I've owned have had this setting. My new one has a crossover at 50, so I set all my speakers small and set the x-over at 50 and am very happy with the sound!!
  17. You'd be doing well with either one. I like the Pioneer in my price range over the Denon, but I think you have a closer comparison with these two models. You definitely get a cooler remote with the Denon, and I like the crossover options better, but I am very loyal to Pioneer. With the Pioneer, you get the Set up Mic, which sets you levels, delays, eq's, etc. Very cool! You could also look for a VSX-49tx (not txi) for about the same price as the 47tx. You would get better accoustic calibration, touch screen remote and Video Up-conversion. It also has a lot of other cool features for multi channel music, speaker settings, etc. You can even bi-amp your front speakers with the extra two (7.1) channels if you are only running 5.1!!

    DTS vs. DD

Get a disc that has both and draw your own conclusions. I will take DTS any day of the week, and have yet to find any disc where the DD souds better. Listen for detail, and less noise.
  19. Actually, tell him to go buy from a Bose "Outlet" store. There you can buy refurbished Bose speakers for the same price you'd pay for brand new at any other store. What a deal, huh?
  20. This guy was merely trying to put in as many brands as possible, so people doing a search for Sony, Bose, etc. would pull up his auction. They call it Keyword Spamming, and although it is supposedly not allowed, they probably wouldn't do anything about it if you reported him. Nothing to take personally, guys, he's just trying to sell his speakers. It works, too. Put up an auction for something Sony and see how many hits you get. I bet you could go out and buy some $24.95 specials and put them up for sale on ebay and people will buy them because they say Sony.
  21. The polarity switch is there to eliminate Standing waves. In other words, if you sit in a spot in your room and get not enough bass or too much bass it could be because Bass Frequencies are very long and can sometimes bounce off of one wall to the next and go right over your head. If you are in a dead spot, you can switch the phase and you'll get your bass back. You can take a dB meter and check different spots in a room and see what I mean.
  22. I use : Speaker Cables : Monster Cable Z-2 Biwire for the fronts and Center Channel, Z-1 for rears, Z-Bass for Front Subs, and Interlink 400 Audio Cables for the Rear Subs. I also use Monster Terminations for all speakers, Banana Plugs at the Receiver end, Spades at the Speaker end. Video Cables : Monster Z300 Component Video cables for Two Hi-Def boxes, and DVD Player plus a set for switching, through my receiver, the Hi-Def Boxes. Monster Z-series (not sure of #) S-Video Cable, and 3 other Monster S-Video (some Video 2, some Video 3). Digital Audio Cables : Monster Datalink Digital Coax from DVD and One HD Box, Lightspeed (cheapest) for other HD box, and Tivo. Not Requested but I also have : Two sets of Monster Z200 Audio Cables for DVD audio (still have Cheapies for the Rears), Monster Standard Audio Cables for the CD player (in a closet far away, too expensive to get the good ones), and some other mid-quality Monster Audio cables for the analog outs on Sat boxes, VCR. Power : Monster Power HTS-5000.

    Two Towers

Saw it tonight. It sucked. Just kidding. Awesome!!! There were a couple of things that really tied in to the special edition, I had a friend sitting next to me that is waiting until X-Mas to get his special edition, so I noticed a couple things that he would've seen if he had the special edition. Can't wait til it comes out on DVD and I can watch it on my system!!!
  24. Jurrasic park was the first theatrical release to have DTS, but it was definitely not the first DVD to have DTS. I have a magazine somewhere that tells which was the first, but I can't remember which. Anyone?? I'll try to find the mag, it had some other interesting facts, like first Dolby digital movie, first LD player with DD, first receiver, etc. Pretty cool reading.
  25. DVD-A. I don't really see it as a format war as there are more and more "universal" players coming out. For now though, I am happy with DVD-A, and I would probably have a SACD player, but I only have one 6 channel input. I am very happy with my DVD player (Panasonic RP91) and am afraid to let it go in favor of another player that I might not like as much.
