  1. Stuff a paper tissue in the tweeter or a piece of dish washing sponge or a bit of stocking. If you're not willing to do something electrical then it's room treatments or other physical measures.
  2. I know that when my subs are set at realistic levels (around 5%-7% of available output) the Y adaptors allow my subs to trigger on and without the Y adaptors they do not trigger. Period. Read into it what you like but it's a fact.
  3. To put it in other words, many sub manufacturers state that by using a Y splitter there is a switched 3dB-6dB gain at the plate amp. Such gain may or may not be useful. In my case it is, but that is because I have to run my subs at such a low level (due to massive output) that the extra gain helps in triggering them to activate on the incoming signal. Without the Y adaptor I generally need to manually turn the subs on (I have two).
  4. I had a futon for about 15 years. However, it didn't have any foam. It was a traditional Japanese type. Solid cotton wadding only. Great bed. Even the numerous wenches liked it. [] Couldn't really move it without two burly friends, though. Very heavy. I miss it. I think I got sent the original link to it a year or so after it appeared on the 'net. Been waiting for the final chapter or two ever since.
  5. This is a classic unfinished novella. Read it 10 years ago and it's still great reading. She hates my futon.
  6. What makes you think distilled water is necessary? You're cleaning a record, not surgical instruments.
  7. Well, if you had not lost so much weight you might have been in with a shot. []
  8. At least it's mercifully quiet. Sound Level (dB) w/o HDD installed: 40.0 dB Stand by: 40.4 dB In operation: 40.8 dB (with 8 x 750GB HDD installed ...unlike the old rack setup I used to have which sounded rather like a turbocharged vacuum cleaner on heat.
  9. Given that they are three weeks old then your dealer should be doing whatever it takes, including replacing any faulty parts for you to solve the problem. I sincerely doubt there is an inability to obtain complete replacement units. Nevertheless, I'm willing to bet there is no shortage whatsoever of parts. You purchased new and got a new unit warranty. I would be enforcing it.
  10. What crossover is being used? i.e. is it a recent HT receiver's crossover? My receiver has the ability to set different crossover points for each speaker pair (and the centre channel). Thus, I am able to tailor appropriate and different crossover points for speakers with different capabilities. You may have that capability and not realise it.
  11. MACC was mentioned. It's really MCACC and it's a competitor to Audyssey. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/HomeEntertainment/AV-Receivers/Enhanced+Content/Receivers/Tuning/MCACC
  12. I doubt they are 'bright'. It's more likely your B&Ws simply couldn't adequately reproduce what was already there.
  13. Nothing wrong with the photo. It's all 'arty'.
  14. 14dB is the -3dB point. I have switched the subsonic filter to a 6dB slope from 15Hz down (default is 24dB) and I tried a test frequency CD last week. With the pair of them running at around 45% each there was still very significant output at 10Hz. Not that much use to me as I run them at 7-15% each, 99% of the time. No 'problems' directly attributable to there being two, other than the increased floor space required (of which I have plenty) and finding the motivation to move them around to find best placement (of which I have little).
  15. http://blog.netflix.com/2008/11/encoding-for-streaming.html Basically, 3.8Mb/s raw. Given that they imply the necessity for 40% headroom for protocol overhead and losses you really need a solid 5.5-6Mb/s for current gen 720p HD encodes.
  16. Bent out shape? You think so? Because some egotis starts sprouting the equivalent of "mine's bigger than yours and I know pro gear and I'm god"? I really couldn't give a toss how many subs you or he have owned. What both of you need to do is read what you write before posting it. It's hostile, belittling and neither of you have any reason to do so, unless extraordinary ego size is the claimed reason (at which point there's no reason at all). Actually, I didn't attack you. I pointed out that your claim about the law was wrong; as did at least one other. If that's an attack you probably need to stop being so sensitive. Or is such bristly reaction an overcompensation for something?Just pop over to the home theater area and recall recently abusing someone out because he wanted to accommodate his wife's wishes. Selective memory. You're welcome to pop into the thread about the pair of DD-18s and say whatever belittling thing you like. At this point, I can't imagine any of it being worth the time to read. Perhaps when you're there you can regale us with stories of how both yourself and TheEAR went to the same school of inflated ego and bad manners.
  17. You just can't help yourself. You're right. The only thing massive around here is the size of your ego and your mouth.
  18. Why not remove the single fan and replace with two fans on either side of the room? One fan for that size room isn't enough anyway. You can then install the projector where the single fan was.
  19. Don't you have anything better to do than cruise the forums abusing people?
  20. Why not dump the TV? Get a projector. Get a motorised screen that will drop down over a window when in use. You're not viewing the countryside when watching the idiot box. Problem solved, and you get to actually 'hide' the TV screen when not in use for WAF brownie points.
  21. What a factual, incisive, eloquent and completely relevant contribution to the thread.
