  1. @Mitchibo  Glad you're liking your setup, kind of amazing how much you can learn on this forum.  I need to do two panels, on either side of the mains, for those first order reflections.  Then, like you, I need REW, mic, build a second UMAX 15 sub, upgrade my mains, source components, etc.  You know, dime store stuff, right?  Hardly.  I noticed that about the REW instructions as well.  Mostly setup, but lengthy.  I'm ordering a low level preamp/amp combo Monday, but will be a considerable upgrade compared to what I'm using now.  Back to the music..

I loved my 13" Sony Trinitron.  It even had a stand with wheels.

I've still got a CRT on my media stand in my master where I listen to tunes.  CRT's were great, they just needed to make them bigger.  A 60" version would probably require a forklift, but it'd be cool.

if you pass through these parts, i’d be happy to buy you lunch or dinner. I haven’t unpacked any gear yet and don’t anticipate doing so anytime soon. Still have a few rooms of boxes.  I will be hitting the road soon though--departure date not yet determined. Have a stupid birthday coming up, so thought i should take a road trip.

I'll have to plan a trip that way.  No need to buy me anything, I'll treat, more or less looking for a little non-work travel adventure.  Anyway, if you head West you can hit Portland, not LA but close enough.  Keep heading West and hit the Oregon Coast.  Break out a guitar, or two, and strum away sitting in the sand staring at the ocean.  Didn't mean to plan your trip, but that's what I'd do.  Birthdays just acknowledge another year of experience, that's the way I try and look at those aged events.

  4. Evenin' gents!  BigStewMan, glad to see you're venturing out in mid Oregon.  I may be able to work your way, with my job, soon.  We'll have to hook up and hang out as we do here in the NW.  I'll see if I can shake a little bit of the 'culture shock' that you're experiencing.  I was back in the NE last week at HQ.  Went to the Ben and Jerry's original factory in VT.  Also, attached some pics of the flight heading back to NH.

Have you ever heard a pair of KLF series speakers? The 20's and 30's are phenomenal sounding speakers and you don't need to worry about a sub. Plus they are three way which is nice in a tower. They weight upwards of 100 lbs but offer 102db efficiency. You can use a monster amp or a 20 watt amp and they sound great either way..

@teaman, check this out.  They're close to me.  No pics, but I don't have the dough right now.  Seems like a good deal.

    Thoughts?

  6. For any of us hard rock guys, such as myself, this was a bit of a shocker.  He was the lead for Linkin Park.  He was 41, had 6 kids from two marriages, and apparently hung himself.  Drug and alcohol problems, usual, and did it on Chris Cornell's birthday.  Sad to keep seeing these talents go down from depression, drugs, and alcohol.  RIP.

A new stereo pair of RF-7 II are currently available from authorized dealers on eBay for $1,799 including shipping (USA).  I recommend the cherry veneer.

I was looking at these as well.  But, on one of the sellers pages they stated that there is 'no warranty' on the 'open box' ones.  I'm not sure about the 'B Stock' veneer 7's.  Don't know if this matters if you're used to buying used anyway.  Just a thought.

  8. @tylerstoddard368  Thanks for the pics.  I posted pics of my master bedroom setup as well and some forum members helped me out.  Anyway, in looking at your pics I would definitely get out the tape measure and see how much space (width) that you have to put a new set of mains considering where your current ones are.  If you think you're going to be in a new place in a year or so, I still feel that I would start with the 280's, if they'll fit, and then you can add a subwoofer later.  This way you're not having to start over because the 160's are too small for the space that you'll theoretically be moving to.

You can always shop ebay, or the like, for a cheap sub for now just to get some more bottom end.  Then, in the new place spend a little more coin and get a nice sub, or two, to go with the 280's.  My thoughts anyway.  Ultimately, it depends on what you want now versus later, what fits the space, and what fits your budget.  Hope this helps.

  9. If it were me, I would forgo the sub for now and get the RP-280F's.  There's been a few members here, some KHorn owners, that have been really impressed them.  You can always add a sub later.  I have RB 81's, not an apples to apples comparison to the RP-160M, in my small HT setup in a slightly larger room and have always felt that they lacked the 'presence' of a good floorstander.

  10. I guess I've been going about this all wrong.  I shouldn't have built the UMAX 15 flat pack and coupled it with an INUKE 3000DSP to grab the low end.  Apparently, I could have built a .25 cu. ft. box and ran a wicked 4" driver to hit 20 and below.  I am an idiot.  But my old 5.5's aren't 4 ft. tall, so, does that mean I'm not an idiot?  But, the RF 7's that I want are over 4'.  So, I'm an idiot again.  I'm so confused.  I guess Summ's the word.

  12. You've got to seal the MDF with something.  I used Bondo before primer/paint/clear, only at the seams though, but I just found a seam pop on the top of the cab.  Need to leave the Bondo a little thicker than I did before.  Hard to see unless your right on top of it.  When I build the next one I plan to do things a little differently.  I posted this pic before, but here it is again.

Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians on the forum and happy impending Fourth of July to my American friends!

Happy late Canadian Day!  I dig Canada.  Been there a few times.  Hung out in Vancouver, camped in Banff, my Dad got a $500 ticket for fishing without a license, believe that was with the exchange rates, went to Expo '86 there, and the Calgary Stampede at the same time.  I just helped a buddy of mine out in BC with some work related issues.  So, enjoy 150 years!

  14. Well, the simplest method to find that point is to sit and listen to the same music track/video clip, over and over, at different crossover points.  This way, you can determine what point is best to your ear, suits your room, etc.  There are no absolutes when setting up your system, way to many variables.
