  1. Shipping would still put them at under $900.00 for a pair. Isn't that still an OK price for them? Not if they don't work. I worries me the seller doesn't want to do local pickup. I can't see why anyone would want to ship them when someone is willing to come pick them up for free.
  2. I don't think it matters anyway. The seller doesn't seem willing to change to local pick up.
  3. Yep between Augusta and Bangor. It's right off the highway too
  4. Sound advice, thanks again. I am just waiting for my friend to measure the vans interior and get back to me. Not sure what will happen if we can't fit all four. Not willing to do two trips. Possibly find another vehicle..........I do have an uncovered trailer.
  5. Check them before you load up. That way if something shakes loose on the way home, you won't blame him. Take an I-pod and a chip amp a couple cables and some wire. Be sure you listen to the tweeters. If anything's blown, it would be them. If there's a problem, you can negotiate on the spot and he can pay-pay you some money back right then if agreed upon. Okay so you are saying check em out anyway after purchase to ensure the listing condition "working" is accurate. If the listing isn't accurate have him compensate before making any sort of claim with ebay. Great advice!! Thanks you. I do have a power inverter, ipod, and small amp I am going to bring.
  6. So basically I have to make the decision. I am going to measure the van interior to see if they will fit. After that confirmation I am pulling the trigger... The seller doesn't accept returns but he does state they are in full working condition. If they are not working can make a claim after the sale? Or at this price should I not worry. They added new pics and the interior looks good to me.
  7. Listing says they are in good working condition. I sent him a message and if he allows local pick up me and a buddy are probably going to go pickup all four. It's 2 1/2 hours from me. What do you guys think? I have Heresy II's now and my buddy has Heresy's. Can you get 4 in a Chrysler Town and Country?
  8. Mullard GZ34's made in the Blackburn plant are IMHO the best 5AR4/GZ34 available. I have never found one that was dead. I have a sleeve of five that I am sitting on NOS NIB!! I keep saying I am going to build something that uses them but I never do. GLWS!
  9. Not all power conditioners do the same thing. If your tube amp has a three pronged power cable try using a cheater plug and lift the safety ground from chassis.
  10. Hey Maynard Yes a lot of times people will buy modern transformers with the primary wound for 115, if the secondary load is rated properly this will still only get you 5.2V-5.5V. To get 6.4V with a 5V winding you would need to see something like 145v wall voltage!!! Or there are multiple primary taps and the 100V tap was used with 120v wall volts, this would still only get you 6V. Either way it should get straightened out or else some good vintage bulbs will be unhappy.
  11. Hey Matt, I noticed the quotations around the responses and figured they were from toolshedmatt. Did he figure out what's going on? He kept saying that the reason for them being high is because they were unloaded? That doesn't make any sense because in the picture you can clearly see the filament is lit which means the filament winding is being loaded. I am not sure if he thinks that the 10mA of current being drawn from the 6J5 tubes will drop it? That current will be drawn from the high tension winding through the rectifier and will not drop the filament voltage. Will you see fireworks? Probably not. Will the rectifier tube wither away prematurely? Most likely.
  12. Well regardless, there is 6.3V which isn't a good thing for those tubes.
  13. Hey Matt, that's the filament voltage and it should read 5V. He's got the green wires wired to the switch, if it's a Hammond Power transformer the wires to the switch should be Yellow, in fact most tube transformers will have the 5V winding as yellow. He's using the 6.3 winding which is wrong. I would also recommend pulling the B+ from the 5V winding center tap.
  14. Too bad those are 5V rectifiers.
  15. I am in the process of moving and also finishing up my latest amp build. The amp is a 10 watt single ended sweep tube amp w/ zero global feedback. When I get settled in my new place I plan to build these speakers or something similar: https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/full-range-speaker-kits/fostex-bk-20-folded-horn-kit-pair/
  16. Paul is just butt hurt because out of one side of his face he is saying that the VRD's are truth machines and that they don't color the sound. And then out the other side of his face he says that who cares about extra distortion by not balancing the PI it won't matter. Edited at the request of the poster.
  17. Completely different application.........turbo.
  18. Maynard's amps don't have Jupiter Bees Wax impregnated with fairy dust capacitors so they possibly can't be the best.
  19. I know, I think it's funny how the OP asks a simple question and people have to chime in with comments that read like it's out of a scientology pamphlet. LOL
  20. You are trying to justify poorer performance for some reason. You are trying to say that if the designer of the amp designed the loading of that LTP correctly you would rather rely on perfectly matched twin triodes for AC symmetry? Good luck with buying perfectly matched twin triodes. The dual triode used for the phase inverter should probably last a lifetime, I would think it's much easier to just throw a tube in and adjust for AC balance, much easier than having to sort through hundreds of tubes for a perfectly matched twin triode. Why you people seem to think you know more than the engineer who designs these amps I don't know, and why you think you need to "roll" tubes. I suggest you sit down and do a little reading on differential amplifiers.
  21. Yes I am. If I want to crank it up I want it to be running optimally, I am sure most people would. If there was no point to the balance control why would Craig put it in the amp? Personally if I was going to make a tube rollers dream amp I would stick a CCS at the tail to force AC balance. Would you buy a Porsche just to drive it 30mph? Are you serious?
  22. Do you adjust the AC balance with an oscilloscope when you "roll tubes" in the "front end"? If not you are probably doing more harm than good.
  23. Looks like there is enough space to add some filters.
