  1. Kudret, Click on John Warren's link and you will find a picture of the network.
  2. oldbuckster, Dark Blue with Tan interior. That is the other color combination that I like.
  3. The 2001 corvette was the year that came out with some improvements over the 2000. Google 2001 corvette, or maybe this link will work. I would go with a 2001 or newer. http://www.corvettemuseum.com/specs/2001/overview.htm I have a 2001 with the $600.00 Magnetic red met. w/ tint coat paint upgrade and tan interior. I also have the $2,000.00 magnesium wheel upgrade along with the performange handling package, and the 3.15 performance axle ratio. It has the removable roof panel I have 24,000 miles on it with an extended transferable 7 yr. 70,000 mile warranty. I've been reading about all the newer C6's because it's getting time for a new one. To my disapointment, I found out that the C6 isn't really any quicker, except for the top end. The 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile times are about the same. This is due to the fact that Chevy is lowering the rear axle ratio. The so called performance rear axle is now 2.75. They upped the horse power by 50, but changed the rear end. The 2008 ups the horse power again by 36 and kept the 2.75 rear axle. Thus, the 2008 is showing quicker times.
  4. I've been listening to DVD-Audio & SACD's for about 4 or 5 years now. I agree with the above opinions, but I enjoy the difference in the sound quality. The sound is much better then what I hear from CD's and DVD-Vidios. It is more analog sounding, cleaner, and more open sounding. There seems to be more space between the instruments. I hope that the new formets like Blu-ray & HD DVD's with HDMI audio will sound as good. My collection is limited, because there arn't many Blues and old Rock discs out there. That's all I listen to. I suggest full range speakers for every channel.
  5. I agree with Oldbuckster and Jacksonbart, Try to go for a C5. I bought one for my wife with the hopes that she would like the car, because I need my truck most of the time. I just take it out and play with it when the mood arises. I had a hard time fitting in a C4, it's underpowered, rough riding , and doesn't have any road feel. The C5 has about the right amount of power for it's weight and tire size. The ride is much better then the C4. My wife likes it, and it's her daily driver. These Vettes arn't like they used to be. I got my first one in 1971, (a 1966). In those days you had to know how to drive to keep them on the road. You can choose between 3 and 4 driving modes. Traction control, the computer uses the brakes and engine speed to help you keep the car stright. Competive driving mode, uses only the brakes to help you stay stright. You still can control the engine speed. Off, the computer does nothing. Hang on,and you better know how to slide a car under control. If you gas it too hard with the front wheels turned at all, be ready to correct it. This gets tricky if you pull out to pass someone and floor it at the same time. But, I tend to like to wiggle my rear end in front of people. I just tell my wife to leave the traction control on, and the car will drive it's self. The C5 has plenty of power in the turns, I think it's lacking in power in the stright aways. I bought my two sons GTO's, a 2005 and a 2006. The GTO's have the LS2 engine which has 50 more HP then the LS1 in the C5. With the GTO's 400 HP , they pull away from me at times. That is when they pick the right gear againts my automatic. Otherwise, the wider tires on the Vette hook up just fine. I'm getting the urge to go for the C6, I know a few people with them and this model has again improved ride, power, and handling over the C5. I want that 50 extra HP and paddle shifting with the automatic. That will give my wife the automatic and maybe the paddle shift will give me more control over the car like a stick. The paddle shift control came in 2006. In 2008 the C6's will get another 30 HP. The Vette is really turning into a nice drive. The 2008 will also have alot better road feel do to changing the steering system. This is also something that the Vette's have been lacking. Tires will last you 12,000 miles if you behave, they are the sticky compond type. They will cost you $1,700.00 to replace. I have 25,000 miles on the car and I'm getting ready to put my third set of tires on it. You have to use run flat tires, there is no spare tire. You don't want to carry the extra weight. It's also cool to be able to push a button and check your tire pressure. Batteries will last 1-1/2 to 2 years, the darn computer is always running. Sorry to run on here, but this is one of my other interest.
  6. EAR, I went to the TC Sounds website yesterday to find some information about their products, but the site wasn't working. I'll try it again. www.tcsounds.com Do I have the right one?
  7. EAR I'll have to take a look at your post on TC Sounds sub that you built. John Warren designed a sub around an 18" McCauley transducer. The 6174 was designed by McCauley to produce very low frequency material at very high SPL's. It has a low Fs of (20Hz) and a low Qes (.380), two necessary parameters to go very low. John got me thinking about building his subwoofer when he told me that his will out perform the F113, but you need a big box. Like your saying, big is better.
  8. Hi Chris, I was wondering why I havn't seen any more post about your system, or should I say the Danley? I like the way you built the Danley into the wall unit, but I may have told you that before. I understand what it's like to be without a subwoofer once you have used one. Last week I sent my Sunfire Signature to Sunfire for repair. Since then, I started to watch a few movies and listen to music and just gave up. I'm finally going to make a change. I narrowed down my choices to the Danley, JL Audio's F113, or build John Warrens sub. I'll either sell, or retire the Sunfire to a dedicated center channel sub.
  9. Hi George, I can't say that I noticed any ringing with the 311-90 horn. It's a cast aluminum sectoral horn, and it is 1/4" thick in it's thinest places. The cut off frequency is 220Hz. and with the Altec 290-16K or L driver the horns usefull bandwidth is 300Hz to 7kHz. It tips the scales at about 40 to 50 lbs., and the 290 adds another 25 lbs. You have a monster on your hands, once you build a Top Hat to put it in then add the JBL 2404H tweeter, and a network. The combo makes for a top heavy Klipschorn. I know that the Altec boys and some other horn lovers say that the 311-90 and the Altec 329-A horns are some of the best sounding horns that you will ever hear. I know that is a strong statement, but that's what made me want to try them. I'm very pleased with the sound, it would take me another couple of years of experimenting to come up with what might be a better sound. ebay is a blessing, you can sell most any driver and horn that you buy for about the same price that you payed for them. Your not stuck trying to convince yourself that you like the sound of a horn or a driver, just because you bought it. You can make a non bias decision and move on. You can have a lot of fun and learn something too. My wife would tease me about the daily visits from FedEx and UPS. I'll try to find and pull up some of my old post about this mod. Look for them here and in the Home Theater section.
  10. Bump, I'm getting emails with questions on some of my mods. I'll try to bring back some of my old post to answer them.
  11. Bump, I'll try to find some of the old post on my mods. They should answer most of your questions. Also, look under Home Theater. I'm finding some topics there.
  12. Your right, I bought a couple of 16 ohm diaphrams, rubber washers, and horn mounting bolts from Bill. You can, or you used to be able to ship the whole driver to Bill to be checked out. The 311-90 horns are hard to find. It took me over a year to find my three pairs, and I had to pay between $600.00 and $900.00 a pair for them. I don't know why, but there are a lot of people that bid on these horns. This was the mod that ended my speaker tweaking days.
  13. I'm surprised to see a Utica, NY get together. I grew up in Rome, NY, and then went to Herkimer County com. college, then on to Oneonta State teachers colloge. So I've been all around you. I then moved to Florida where I've been for about 30 years now. I go to Lake George and to Old Forge to vacation in the summer every few years. You can't beat the views from those country roads up there. Have fun.
  14. You mean the old earbleeder posts? Sure, but that was before I heard them at Parrot's house run with Tubes and ALKs -- after which I became one of the few around here to buy them new. I wouldn't spend $6K on a pair of speakers that I didn't think I could live with! And as you well know, they become all the more sweeter when you work that top section. Yea, it was a few years ago. I remember when you thought I was nuts when I started experimenting with different top hats.
  15. Over the years, if you read between the lines I don't think the Klipschorns were ever Deans cut of tea.
  16. I have had problems with a few tweeters in some of my LaScalas and Klipschorns. The problems were #1, and #2 above. Good suggestions.
  17. I read the reviews a week ago, so I may be wrong. Wasn't the JL sub measured outdoors, and the Klipsch sub in 1/8 space?
  18. Will you two shut up, and hurry up and hook up those baby's? I'm anxious to hear how they compare to your other subs. I just read about the Gotham. WOW! I never heard of this company before. I wish they would post some more spefications on them.
  19. It's about time! I've been waiting to see more. At least the cabinet where the sub is going into is finished on the inside. That way you can just add some shelves should you have to move the sub. With all the output that the Danley has I don't see placement being an issue. I would now worry about vibration, but you are supposed to be able to build it in. Keep the photos coming, and take a deep breath and try to relax. Once the cabinets are in things speed up.
  20. Thanks EAR, Interesting, it's more of a lateral move then. I hate lateral moves. It may then take the Danley to make the move up from a Sunfire Sig. worth while.
  21. Freak Nasty I would like to know how the Sunfire compares to the Descent.
  22. Reading this is making me think that I might want to try my top hat on a Jubilee bass horn.
  23. Your right Indy, but I couldn't help it. [] I remember my growing days when I kept changing and trying new things. I just wasn't happy with the sound untill I got to where I am today. That's why I havn't been around mush the last couple of years. I don't have anything new to contribute. I do stop in and catch up on what's going on at least once a week. I followed your new room and equipment changes. Very nice, by the way. I can't forget my old friends. It seems like there are a few new people here that picked up where I left off. Those are also interesting reads to me. Now instead of tweaking and building every night, I lay back on the reclining sofa and watch a movie or listen to some tunes.
  24. I have to learn how to post pictures again. Come on back Texas. We didn't mean to scare you away with are big center channel speakers. Let's start again by asking you if you can at least fit in a Heresy? Like suggested above.
