  1. Davis, great looking set up! Klipschorns are hard to beat right? Tell us about the sub you are running. I've never felt the need to run a sub with my horns, but I sure have thought about it at times.
  2. A guy I was talking to last week told me I needed to look into low voltage 12G wire for my stuff. The Cat 5 also sounds interesting.
  3. Welcome to the forms. Don't worry about the power handling of these speakers, they are efficient and the amp will be fine with either model. I've noticed my 5.5s like more watts.
  4. David, are you buying new good quality vinyl? Just because it's new does not make it good quality. I try to always find out who pressed the Lp before I buy. Some people swear by a zero stat gun, others claim stuff like Groove Lube works. My carbon fibre brush does great for me. I live in a dry hot climate and I can tell a difference on the days when the humity is 10% compaired to 30%, and ceiling fans don't help with crackling either[8o|] Sterling
  5. Welcome to the forum, I have owned all of the above mentioned. My vote is for the Chorus or the Heresy. The Chorus will give you the bass that most people want with out the large foot print of the CW. The Heresy is such an amazing little speaker that is so musical, in the right setting they are hard to beat. You can't go wrong with what you are looking for within the Kilpsch line. Your ears will lead the way.
  6. Put some 5.5's up front and you wont be sorry.
  7. It isn't a matter of wattage, but a matter of current flow that's the issue. Even at the same level of wattage, current flow will increase by going from 8 down 4 and then down to 2 ohms. Using ohms law, you can calculate out the voltage and amperage needed to reach 100 watts for a 2, 4, and 8 ohm load. At 8 ohms, you would be running ~28 volts and ~3.5 amps.At 4 ohms, you're looking at 20 volts and 5 amps. At two ohms, you're looking at ~14 volts and 7 amps. This increase in amperage correspondingly increases heat and instability, and inevitably causes an amplifier not designed for the load to shut down in self protection. For reference, a THX Select 2 receiver is designed to be stable down to 4 ohms and swing a 12.5 ampere peak in the front channels (equating to 625W at 4 ohms). A THX Ultra 2 receiver is designed to be stable down to 3.2 ohms and swing an 18 ampere peak on any channel (equating to a bit over 1000W at 3.2 ohms). What is unfortunate is that the only third party I know of that really tests amplifiers is the mostly defunct "The Audio Critic" with their power cube test. That tests stability and maximum voltage into 8, 4, 2, and 1 ohm loads with a variety of phase angles (from 60 to -60 degrees). I wish more audio rags would give that kind of info, as it would make amplifier selection a whole lot easier. That was a good explanation. Lots of good info, thanks for that. [H]
  8. I can't seem to find an average selling price. THe seller is going to bring it over today, I hope for something good.
  9. Kraftwerk is pretty cool.....these guys look like bank tellers or Mormon Missionaries. (in their day) ...either way, this one has it's place in time.
  10. I have the opportunity to buy a TD150 MkII for under $200. The Dust cover is scatched and not in great condition but from what I've been told the rest of the unit is nice. The seller mentioned something about how upgrading the tone arm really helps the sound but, I have no idea about tone arms and don't really want to sink another $500 into it for one. I would like to use my AT ML 440a cart with it. It should be sweet with the Klipschorns right? Any help would be great.
  11. I imagine, however, that yours came with risers and two badges. If these had the risers I'd be more inclined to inquire immediately. He has them up on e-bay as a "local pick-up only" auction with a $499.00 reserve. If they are still around post auction I'll audition. runninshine, What amp are you using to power these? I really want a 2-channel tube amp set-up, but this is a venture into uncharted territory for me. I've been kinda leaning towards finding some cornwalls. Anyways, thanks for the advice and I'll keep it in mind. Right now my Chorus's are sitting idle [] I was running them with a Carver CM-1090 and they just blew the doors off my Cornwalls. I will eventually update the Crossovers and find a sweet spot for them.
  12. Nice score, I am all about speakers in the garage. If I had another place to put the cars I would put the La Scalas out there. [Y]
  13. I paid $600 a few years back for a decent pair of C1's and I love them. I would jump on them. They are great speakers!!!!
  14. Don't forget the pipe foam on the back corners that meet the wall. It really helped mine.
  15. I want a pair so much, my house/listening space just would not do them justice. Congrats! [Y]
  16. Look into Frazier Speakers, he ( Jack Frazier) was one of the only speaker makers that PWK respected. The FUG thread will really help you with this.
